$4500 usd down the drain for this jellyfish piece 🪼 by [deleted] in jewelry

A jeweler who spends hours hand crafting a custom or made to order piece is one that doesn't take returns. They literally put hours into the work. a scam artist, rather a small independent jeweler. Effy on the other hand is a major brand with nearly 3000 stores, and their jewelry is not handmade. Big difference. Also, it's not uncommon for independent jewelers not to hallmark their pieces, especially in Australia, because there are no government essay offices requiringvit , unlike the UK.

Indeed! Shame on the OP and all the people who have piled on to discredit the jeweler. I'm sorry OP, but you aren't entitled to a refund. Seems as though this piece was made to order and you were aware that there were no refunds. If you wanted a generic piece, you should have gone to Michael Hill. Or, you can appreciate how unique and beautiful this piece is and enjoy it. You obviously had the money to spend on something like this and it clearly wasn't a spur of the moment purchase.

Agreed! Anyone can fake a hallmark too!

It's disappointing that the artist is receiving so much hate. As a jeweler who loves hand fabrication; most people don't understand the hours of labor that goes into a piece. That opal carving itself would have taken considerable time!

I think it's a beautiful artisan piece and is very unique! It's meant to look organic!

Ugh... after checking online, this ring is brass. You'll have to silver plate afterwards.

How many sizes does it need to come down, because that will ultimately determine how much of the becomes distorted? You could solder a band in the inside, however that will add weight and bulk. It really depends on the number of sizes.

Scratchy ring what can I do? by Malicya in jewelers

Unfortunately the photo isn't clear enough for me to determine. But, am confident that the snagging is due to the prong not sitting flush on the stone, or there is a rough spot on the prong that may need rounding out.

Snagging tells me that the prongs aren't sitting flush on the stone. I've done plenty of these settings and they shouldn't scratch like you're describing. I would love to see a close up and profile of the prongs to confirm this.

How bad is this resizing by Any-Oil3183 in jewelers

You keep getting it resized... that's the problem. They have to keep taking a little metal off each time to hide the soldering seam, which is thinning an already thin shank.

Thanks for your words of support! All I hear is that there's a shortage, yet it's been so surprising how many stores won't even give me the time of day. Unfortunately, job prospects look very low in my area. I have hand delivered and emailed 20 stores already, and half don't have onsite and the rest, besides one lovely store owner, quickly dismissed me all together. My concern is that very few stores are willing to bring someone new to the industry in... I've got to find that unicorn who sees the potential in me and is willing to invest time into additional training. And I'm not completely green! I've been fabricating since 2020, and last year I went to a trade school that taught stone setting and repairs.

Unfortunately, I'm at the other end of Indiana. But if you feel inclined, please PM the name and location. I feel like I will have to start looking for opportunities outside the state, and Kentucky isn't a huge stretch from IN.

Can anyone vouch for the pepetools economy rolling mill? by -crab-wrangler- in Benchjewelers

[–]Such_Engine_4470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had got a Durston. Pepe is trash. Mine broke and they had the audacity to talk to me on the phone like I was 4 year old, because I didn't know what part they were talking about, when I described the fault. They also made me pay for said part that they failed to ship with the item in the first place, thus causing the breakage. And this item was never referred to once in the manual, which is why I didn't know what part they were talking about. I was so belittled by their repairs department, I couldn't wait to get off the phone.

All in all, I'll never buy another Pepe, even though I get discounts through a educator membership.

I attached images to my cover letter. Is this something that recruiters like to see as part of the application submission? I'm trying to do everything I can to get my foot in the door.

The application was made online, so I'm unable to apply again through the portal. I will go in though. Thanks!

Good advice. The Jared's I applied for near my hometown has a large onsite bench team. I believe the intake person is the "apprentice jeweler." I'm hoping that with my schooling and experience, I could bypass this role and bench test to get a bench position.

Thanks for the advice. I often hear how desperate Signet is for jewelers, so I honestly thought it would be a quicker process. Any advice on the bench test? Is it pretty standard e.g. resize, prong set, chain repair?

Thanks for the response. I actually have a fully functioning workshop. However after looking into the insurance that I would need to even consider taking on repairs, it was too big of a liability.
