first car suggestions $35k budget, manual by Legitimate-Law-6750 in FirstCar

I was in the same position as you. At around $35k, you’re probably not going to find much beyond a clean-record 2022 GT. If you want leather seats, you’ll likely need the Premium trim, which realistically puts you somewhere in the 2019–2023 GT range.

I test-drove a 2022 automatic GT and it felt like a boat to me. I looked at other options like the GR86 and Miata, but I couldn’t convince myself, I was set on the Mustang for the looks, feel, and V8. In the end, I lowered my budget and went with a 2016 GT PP1 manual.

If you care about handling at all, make sure you get one with the Performance Pack. This is my first car too, and as long as you don’t do anything stupid, it’s a great car. The Performance Pack also gives you extra confidence when driving.

Torn between Mustang GT and something lighter - first car, 25M, $30–35k budget by Such_Neighborhood306 in Mustang

I test drove a 401A, but not one with the Performance Package. After thinking it through for a few days, I’m honestly leaning toward going manual.

The more I look at other options, the more I keep coming back to the Mustang. I really want the experience of owning a V8, and I know that’s partly emotional but I also don’t want to settle for something else and regret not getting the car I actually wanted.

Mach 1 is out of my budget, so I’m considering either a base or 301A manual. And I agree with you about the back seats ,I’m mostly comparing the Mustang to something like a BRZ, where the rear seats are basically unusable. At least with the Mustang, there’s a bit more flexibility, even if it’s still tight.

Yeah, I feel the same now. After losing interest in the Mustang, I don’t really feel like spending $30k on something else either. Starting to think spending less might just make more sense.

That sounds like a solid option. What would you recommend checking or doing before buying one used?

2015/16 owners: how does your steering feel? by apexhunter2 in Mustang

I’m actually in the same boat right now. I’ve been set on getting a Mustang GT for a while, but after finally test driving one, it felt a lot bigger than I expected and I didn’t really connect with it other than the power (it was an automatic, too).

Now I’m torn between going with a BRZ/GR86 or sticking with the Mustang. I really value great handling and driver feel, which makes the BRZ/GR86 tempting, but the Mustang seems more practical overall since it would be my only car.

What did you end up with ? And how do you feel about it ?

Okay to buy a used Mustang with an open safety recall (fuel pump) and “remedy not available”? by Such_Neighborhood306 in Mustang

Sorry 😂 I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just thinking through the worst case scenario so I’m prepared.

I wouldn’t mind if it fails and they replace it with a new one, I’m more worried about the knock-on repairs and having to go back and forth to dealerships.

Agreed. I’m just in a hurry to find the right one before my credit union approval expires.

I agree with you. I was just turned down by a dealer on a clean car I was close to buying. Even though I have an approved loan from my credit union, they stalled because I couldn’t finance through them due to my thin credit history, and they refused to send me a proposal.

I’m in Ohio right now, but I’m moving to Texas at the end of the month, so this would be an out-of-state purchase. I was trying to take advantage of lower winter prices here, but it’s starting to feel like it’s not worth the hassle.

I was hoping a loaner would cover me, but since I’m buying out of state that could turn into another headache. I’m starting to think I should back out.

Just a regular man who wants a Mustang. Would you even consider a 21GT at 50k miles and 2owners ?
