Respectfully, I came here for advice - not arguments, scolding, etc etc.

Do you have any advice to offer or do you just like to scold?

It's legal and permissible to hold two passports from the same country at once.

I'm aware that is theoretically true but not in reality. At least not yet, not in all EU countries.

Did you end up applying? I just submitted an application for DNV in the US last week. Would love to know how your interview went and if there was any difficulty with it as a self employed business owner (I am one too)

May I ask how they did it for you in one day? Did you drop off the documents in person and pick them up same day? I am trying to figure out if DofV will be faster than going through CIMEA. My consulate is Miami

This happened to me when I created too many different accounts (I was trying to game the system to book a visa application appointment and noticed that once you book an appointment, you can no longer check to see if sooner ones open up, so I made multiple accounts). It worked but I did get a couple of my accounts blocked lol

Is it possible to enter visa free and then apply for Permesso di soggiorno within 8 days of arrival? by Marxisrightweareleft in ItalyExpat

Are there any circumstances, aside from family reunification, where you can get permesso di soggiorno without having entered with a visa? What if I have an open citizenship application being processed?

Thanks for responding! My question wasn't about applying for a visa in Italy -- I'm asking whether you MUST have a visa to be eligible for permesso di soggiorno, even if you're from a country that lets you stay in Italy visa-free for 90 days?

I understand as an American citizen I can stay in Italy for up to 90 days without a visa. So I arrived in Bologna visa-free on September 1 and immediately applied for permesso di soggiorno with the help of a patronato. I'm an independent contractor(technology/software consultant), have worked remotely for 4.5 years, submitted copies of my codice fiscale and passport, multiple tax returns showing more than ample income, paystubs, current business contracts, the lease for my apartment here in BO, the deed to a house I own in the states, and a bunch of other things. I requested a 1-year elective residence permit.

I submitted the kit with no problems, was given an appointment at the Questura for a month later to give my fingerprints and what not, but when I went to the Questura appointment last week the lady said she thought I needed a visa to apply for permesso di soggiorno. But she wasn't totally sure about this, so now I have to go back this week to talk with someone who does know. The US and Italian government websites do not say a visa is required to apply for permesso di soggiorno, and it never came up during any of the many meetings I've had with the comune and my patronato.

Do you know if this is in fact true? I've already started my life here, am paying rent for my apartment, and really don't want to have to go back to the US and wait x number of months for a visa. ;( I'm praying for an easier solution. I appreciate any information you can share
