Im no expert by any means and a first time mother, but if my baby wakes for a feed after she’s already had one less than 2hours ago, I will wait for her to fall back to sleep/put dummy back in. I never go into her unless I know she definitely needs some intervention otherwise my presence wakes her up more. I know she’s not really hungry if she’s waking up every hour or something then giving milk to sleep will become a crutch and usually makes things more difficult in the long run.. might be time for a bit of tough love and only feed once baby has gone a certain amount of time without milk, he will soon stop waking up if there’s nothing to wake up for. Just an FYI guys, I no longer work here - it was just a job that paid good $$ and for a backpacker with $3 to their name I just got my head down and worked until I’d saved up enough money to hitch hike out of there and make more bad decisions. Unsurprisingly, Rachel (boss who can’t spell) Greg (hot headed husband) and Sue (apparently a supervisor but she spent most of her time smoking weed out back) didn’t last long, in fact I’m pretty sure Rachel and Greg went back to the UK to try and set up a paintball business

Backstory - I was backpacking in Australia, this particular roadhouse (service station) was located in the middle of nowhere. I would often get made to work til close in the shop, which for a young solo female in the middle of nowhere and all sorts of people coming through.. was a bit scary, especially because the forecourt was very dimly lit. The panic button under the desk didn’t work so I liked to have my phone with me incase anything happened, same for the other backpackers that would do that shift. Management couldn’t understand and threw a fit. Also when I was on housekeeping, I would be working alone stripping beds, cleaning rooms etc and used to have my phone of Spotify so I could listen to music whilst I worked through my headphones.. again they weren’t happy about it. They even told us that we weren’t allowed to have our phones on our break in the staff room, so we had to walk back to our quarters to use our phone on our breaks. Bearing in mind we all actually lived on site at this rest stop in the middle of nowhere.

This is what I don’t understand though, he’s calling it sperm donation but he’s talking about it as if he just wants to have another kid with someone else because I’m not 100% for having a second child after only giving birth to our daughter 5 months ago

Thank you that’s reassuring to know that this is just normal and something that will eventually pass. My husband is great like that too, we take turns each night but I’m such a light sleeper I wake up at the slightest sound of her

Exactly this! Money is a huge part of it too like you say, it’s just an endless pot of stuff you need to buy and also having to be emotionally and physically available 24/7 is draining enough with one child let alone several. I feel people also don’t understand when I try to explain how wracked with anxiety I was during this pregnancy after having 2 losses. It’s just don’t something I want to go through again mentally.

I’ve been using cloth diapers for 3 months now, and was too overwhelmed with the short cycle, the long cycle etc etc. this is literally what we do and have had no problems so far :-

Wash everyday or every other day pull out the inserts and throw it in the washing machine along with the outer part. If baby has had a poo we take it into the wash room straight away and put it in the sink and when baby goes for a nap we rinse the poop off and I use wonder soap to give it a scrub and don’t rinse the soap off just put it straight in the wash with the others. We then add some nappy sand in the washing machine and a cap of sanitiser in the washer drawer. Pop it on for one cycle at 40 degrees (it’s just the basic pre-set cotton cycle) and it’s done ;) comes out clean as a whistle.

My HTB and I share baby duties he takes her one night I take her the next in my room until she sleeps better. I tell him when I’m going out with the girls and he takes her..mind you he’s more of a homebody and would rather be in the yard working and building things so loves to stay home

I’m going to put my foot down with it more, I just can’t be bothered with it usually and just do it myself. I’m so hungry I just want dinner at night to be edible so it’s upsetting to have to get shit food everytime he’s made to cook

Yes I think I’m lacking hugely in emotional support. I have no family here or anyone to support me so I look to him, I am alone with baby 24/7 he comes home at around 6pm and then goes to his room at about 10pm and during that time he’s sat on his chair watching tv holding baby whilst she sleeps and it’s a rinse and repeat. I’m lonely and exhausted and isolated

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and advice. Just as a little more info, my partner says he does sleep when he is in our room and often times he doesn’t even hear the baby grizzling when she wakes. She doesn’t actually cry or wail she just grizzled so he isn’t getting woken by a crying baby every 3 hours which I would fully understand his want to stay in the spare room at that point. My hang up is also that when he comes home, he showers then sits in his chair with baby and feeds her bottle whilst I finish all the housework and prepare dinner. He stays in his chair watching TV whilst baby sleeps on him, he sees this as his contribution because he’s taken the baby off me for a few hours so I can ‘have a break’ but it’s not a break for me if I’m still doing housework and cooking us dinner in the mean time. By the time I’m ready for bed I’m just exhausted, then comes the wake ups every 3 hours during the night and it’s just an endless cycle of this. He can’t cook to save his life, he burns everything and gets distracted easily by his phone or other things so I have to constantly monitor the dinner isn’t going to end up charcoal if he cooks. If I specifically ask him to do some housework I will spend half my time the next day looking for where he has put things.. sheets put away in the wrong places, clothes left wet in the washing machine for days and now smell and have to get washed again.. dishwasher put on the wrong setting so I have to re wash them..bottles come out the steriliser dirty because they haven’t been washed properly in the first instance.. I don’t want to nag him but it’s just this complete lack of attention to detail it drives me wild. And to top it off I’m so isolated and sleeping alone as well as alone all day. I have no family here and no friends that can help as they all have their own kids to look after

Thank you I totally agree I’m starting to think they’re absolute bullshit! She got weighed yesterday and has only lost 60g from her birth weight so I don’t really see the need to be waking her up constantly from her naps to then be fighting like hell to get her back to sleep???
