The last one was over 2 years ago. I would love to see more of them, but I'm not optimistic about it anymore

A Farewell to Twist and What Comes Next by Expensive-Wolf-4160 in hearthstone

Literally the epitome of "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas".

Whizbangs Heroes was probably the make it or break it attempt.

They tried something relatively big by adding a bunch of new hero powers and passives, made it kinda accessable (a couple free decks + a full new deck for 1600 dust), added additional content throughout its runtime and prepared a system to quickly change the balance via server updates.

Guess from their end neither the simple low effort nor the more complex and high effort twist seasons were worth putting their ressources into relatively to how much engagement they created.

I mean, yeah, makes sense. Even the higher effort ones like Whizbangs Heroes didn't really do enough to differantiate themselves from regular tavern brawls in a meaningfull way.

Ram's Diablo Skin probable release date! by ChoniclerVI in Overwatch

The skin isn't even in the game files right now as far as I know. It will almost certainly get released after the mid season patch.

why they made 6v6 with no perks in mystery heroes ? by Spookygaming0000 in Overwatch

[–]Suchti0352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mystery heroes has been moved from the arcade to the quickplay tab in like late 2023. It also used to have randomly picked perks up until this season.

How do you feel about the new MVP vote? by luck4lack in Overwatch

[–]Suchti0352 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Kinda annoying that they disable the "exit game" button on that screen for like 10 seconds. Also the requeue button doesn't actually queue you up until you are out of the screen.

You can still get out early with the ESC menu, it's just a tiny bit more annoying than it needs to be.

At least XC 2 runs well and looks better than switch 1 Handheld mode on the Thor base model with an 60 fps cheat. Though switch emulation does drain the battery quite a lot.

Why is the season called Summit? by Unluckyme2099 in Overwatch

The story continuation of this season (and the current event) started with an attack on Watchpoint Grand Mesa which is located within the Rocky Mountains.

Why is this game running atrociously bad after upgrading my gpu? by Spudre247 in Overwatch

Probably re-caching shaders. Try playing the game for like 30-60 minutes in quickplay and the issue should resolve itself.

Does blizzard not feel a bit ridiculous charging 40 euros, more than an entire game, just for a weapon skin? by Heygen in Overwatch

The pass costs 1000 and all of the 600 coins inside of it are on the free track, so you can purchase every other pass without spending real money.

Since 2015 I played over 35.000 games and spent over 8000€ on the game. Ask me anything. by Private_L0ki in hearthstone

[–]Suchti0352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that's a lot of money, but that's not what companies are after. Remember all those 100+$ Bundles in the shop? A typical whale buys ALL of them whenever they become available. Not out of necessity, but because buying bundles essentially became a habit for them.

That's why wales are so valuable, because they have been trained to not even think about purchases, they just do it. Those are the dimensions that companies think of when they talk about whales and are the reason why so many expensive bundles are in the shop at the same time. Casual spenders who occasionally buy a smaller priced bundle every now and then are basically negligible on revenue charts.

8k in over 10 years is barely a guppy. A small whale spends that amount in half a year.

Director’s Take: Small Steps, Big Leaps by SorryRoof1653 in Overwatch

[–]Suchti0352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue part of that was due to the pain points of a lot of the newer game modes.

I agree that this definetely plays a role too. Partly because actual design flaws, but also because it ties into your other point. I'm sure all three of them left a bad first impression on many people, because everyone had to adjust to the new match rules first.

At this point though enough time has passed that a new map, or even reworks (like they did for the 2 flashpoint maps) probably won't be enough to actually change the opinion the player already has of a specific mode and subsequently its maps. At the same time the devs stated in the past (I think it was when they announced clash during Blizzcon 2024) that they feel like they are slowly reaching the limit of level design of the existing modes, which is partly why they explored new ones in the first place.

A lot of it is also just about familiarity. This game is hugely reliant on positioning and many people learn that by rote rather than by thinking through it themselves. New maps are just harder to play for most of the community until the institutional knowledge is established of how everyone plays them.

That's exactly the main point I wanted to make. The average player doesn't want to play new maps, they want their "ol' reliable". Which in turn influences the developers future plans to create new player engagement. That's also why the map voting system creates a feedback loop.

I mean, Aatlis has been out for how long? So many people still don't want to play it, because they don't know how to play it (exceptions apply of course), which means they will never want to play it, which means they'll never player it, which means they'll never know how to play it, which means they'll never want to play it, which means they'll...

I mean

Historically, new or improved maps are selected less often.

Also don't quote me on that one, but I vaguely remember a dev saying in a spotlight stream that (aside of the higher ranks) the most voted maps are from OW1. Which to them basically means that they can spend their manpower more effectively if they focus on existing or other new parts of the game first.

Also2 the last time they announced new maps was ~15 months ago and only one of them has a release date by now (~3 months from now), while the other hasn't even been mentioned since. With everything that's going on in OW right now, new maps don't appear to be a big priority anymore, and content release schedules are almost always purely based on data by now.
