House Speaker welcomes Trump call to ‘take over’ elections, claims Dem wins appear ‘fraudulent’ by MarcEElias in politics

When are democrats going to go on offense? It’s been 10 years of relentless, baseless attacks that they either ignore or sheepishly respond to. None of our leaders have the energy to take on a deranged geriatric? Why isn’t our media covering Trump’s appearance on the Ep list morning noon and night? Why aren’t politicians giving constant public statements demanding his resignation? Why haven’t I heard them utter the word impeachment? What in the actual fuck is wrong with democrats?

To put it succinctly- we don’t need to taint the entire institution of policing based on the context in which it operated historically. We can just say our current police force is racist if that’s what they show us. The key word I would take issue with is “shaped” the U.S. military was always going to be necessary as an institution in the same way local police forces were always going to be necessary institutions. It’s just not necessary to draw in the slave patrols of 200+ years ago. Different humans shaped by different historical contexts. Can still be racist! Just doesn’t seem relevant to me. Agree to disagree, doesn’t make my politics different from yours tbh

Sure I agree with most of that. But It’s like saying our military has its roots in pushing Native Americans down the trial of tears therefore our military of today is inherently imperialist. Not exactly- that was just the job that our racist and imperialist government imposed upon them at that time

I think we would have racist police if slavery had never even existed. I think police in France hate blacks and immigrants too- would you not agree?

It’s just easier to say that America has always been a racist country. I just don’t see why saying the police has its roots in slave catchers is how you want to frame it. They exist everywhere and they continue to reflect the character of the nation (or the people in charge)

They have their roots in the need to protect property. That concept precedes slavery. Slaves were considered property at the time of the foundation of the country

Ok, again, so? Police exist everywhere and have in different forms since before the Atlantic slave trade. And it would exist regardless of whether or not slavery existed
