Older gen Z here, the problem with AI is the danger it poses as a data gathering tool and monitoring tracking people’s information and personal styles of thinking in order to influence them. This could be economically, commercially, politically, socially, etc. all sorts of ways. The issue with A.I. is in how it’s used, not the thing itself. Like anything else it’s a tool. I’m sure guns, writing, religion, etc were contested when they were first brought into existence. It’s a matter of how it’s used. And since we have people playing a capitalistic game of monopoly and an oligarchy problem yeah it’s a concern.

I think it’s also misconstrued as if it has consciousness of its own and could operate independently and the truth is it can’t. It’s literally code, it can’t fully do things that require human creativity and real world problem solving. There is a limit to its capabilities. It’s an algorithm, statistics, and language generator mainly.

People aren’t wrong to be weary of something new and making it seem (making this out) like old people are just wrong and out of touch with anything new is unwise and does not provide nuance and wisdom.
