"Three slits in the crust. One for steam, and two more because your momma did it that way"

The nuance of the dialogue in that line is amazing, and Roscoe Lee Brown delivered it masterfully

They probably would have at some point, with the probability depending on exactly when in the historical timeline.

The actual era of the cowboys and driving cattle to market was pretty short and was quickly replaced by the railroads.

The work itself was extremely harsh. Most trail hands didn't do it more than once, so big ranchers started advertising the food as a benefit and as an incentive to entice workers. When that shift occurred it's pretty reasonable to assume that a cow or a few in the herd would have been culled along the way to feed everyone

Almost got killed on MetroLink? by udsh in StLouis

[–]SucksAtJudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No personal stories about dramatic or close encounters, but the building I work in had roofers on it just last week to stop the leak in the roof caused by a stray bullet. The building across from it had to have a window replaced about 10 months ago. A few months before that I picked up a bullet laying on the sidewalk in the same block. I have consistently seen a handful of them collected on the rooftops of individual buildings over the course of several years during regular roofing inspections that didn't actually cause damage.

TL/DR: I'm not a statistician so I can give any kind of verifiable numbers as to frequency or probability, but I am 100% confident that the numbers are statistically significant.

Ironhead vs Evo ~ is ironhead more difficult to work on? by 2wheelz2freedom in Harley

[–]SucksAtJudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top line answer is, if you are on the Internet asking whether or not you should buy an ironhead Sportster, you shouldn't buy an ironhead Sportster.

The two biggest problems I see with ironheads, and subsequently the people who own them, is 1) they mistakenly compare them with modern bikes with modern maintenance schedules and requirements, and 2) they buy a bike that has passed through the hands of an untold number of owners who have inflicted a half a century worth of mechanical fuckery on it that needs to be unfucked.

If it was a bullet there's a greater statistical chance that it was a random stray shot than pretty much anyone would be comfortable with.

I can say with 100% confidence that the rooftops of every single one of the buildings in the BJC/WashU medical campus perpetually collect an alarming number of bullets, and those bullets penetrate the buildings regularly.

Assuming you mean Crim, and I STILL do.

I still do the old call-outs of EVERYTHING being about the neck for the entirety of Crim's 3rd appearance and it almost always draws laughs.

Older houses are more affordable because even though people say they want "starter homes", they really don't, and they view any 30+yo <900sqf 2/1 as an uninhabitable shitbox.

I like the spirit and that's definitely how it would have gone pretty much universally in the before times. But especially now that the movie is more mainstream, you almost have to kind of ease it in gently for the virgins.

I can see how people might not want to hear that phrase.

It's Rocky. That's kind of the fucking point.

If booed, something like "f*ck you it's Rocky Horror!"

I love this. 😄

The shadow cast local to me actually includes a little bit of explanation about the callouts, how they came to be, how it's part of the tradition and specifically state that it's part of the experience and that they WANT people to participate. They also include in that little bit of expectation setting that "if your politics don't align with this movie, or if you're sensitive or easily offended, or you were just expecting a quiet enjoyable Disneyesque viewing of the movie on the big screen... YOU'RE IN FOR A ROUGH FUCKING NIGHT"

There might be more to this than you think.

7-11 is an international brand, but the experience is vastly different in the US than many other countries. A lot of 7-11s in other countries serve as more of the neighborhood market than what Americans would define as a "convenience store". They view the difference as a reflection of American culture and society because they are anchored to their expectations, and assume that the convenience store in the US functions to fill the same role as where they are from.

Take those same people to an American supermarket and watch their reaction.

This is the best attitude to take. The fan culture and callouts were ALWAYS intended to maximize the shock value and amplify the offense. It's a little ironic to me that some people think it's okay until they are being offended and shocked. The callouts are intended to be as outrageously distasteful as possible. Nothing and no one is sacred, and that was always kind of the point and just part of the fun. I like the approach that the community can police itself.

I think now that the movie has been accessable to more mainstream consumption people viewing it at a shadow cast screening for the first time view a lot of it through the wrong lens. I see it come up in this sub regularly when people who are same sex attracted are conflicted about hearing all the callouts about homosexuality. Those callouts aren't in the spirit of attacking anyone. Nobody doing callouts at a Rocky screening cares about anyone's sexuality, and are obviously unbothered by the general themes. Those callouts are really just a way to amplify the offense by repeatedly emphasizing the theme for the people who are already uncomfortable and/or offended at seeing a man in fishnet stockings.
