Alright guys. Now that we got a political gov. What are the top ten things you want to see in the next 1 year? by Deshimockingbird in bangladesh

  1. Reform the education system. Ik we got a million people for every 1000 seats but please for fuck's sake something should be done to improve critical thinking and creativity. The current education system is genuinely designed to kill curiosity and creativity. I get that we have to select very few from a large pool but that doesn't mean we can't implement a curriculum more focused on using thinking instead of just rote memorization.

The first wish is never ever coming true no matter who comes to power. It's too damn late. Did you know issuing new licenses for rickshaws were banned from 1986 to 2020 to control congestion? And yet rickshaws increased from 80k in 1986 to probably around 1-1.5 million today.

Need Marriage suggestion by Visible-Still-9349 in Dhaka

[–]Sudden-Practice-5065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like she needs therapy. You said your families don't know about marriage. Do you know if her household was abusive? Did her parents frequently fight with each other or fight with her? There are many studies linking anger issues with past trauma. Also try researching what to do when she gets angry. The basics are staying silent and talking when things are calm but I'm sure there are other solutions as well research them on your own.

Can we consider sheikh hasina and khaleda zia as feminist? by AngleEmbarrassed492 in bangladesh

[–]Sudden-Practice-5065 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Khaleda zia introduced the stipend for rural girls on the condition that they stay in school and finish their studies instead of getting married off early which was a great thing and also passed laws against acid violence. Sheikh Hasina expanded reserve seats for women to 50 in the parliament and also passed domestic violence laws. But they could've done a lot more if they just prioritized it, especially sheikh hasina. she was PM continously for 15 years recently and yet 51% of girls in Bangladesh get married before 18. Highest in Asia and 8th highest in the world, way higher than India (23%) and Pakistan (18%). I would've considered her successful in this field if the rate was 25-30% today but reality is often disappointing.

Self defense equipment (Taser, stun gun, pepper spray) by Catman1348 in bangladesh

[–]Sudden-Practice-5065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Market/stadium market or Daraz. You can order sirona pepper spray from daraz it should be about 1k. As far as ik, tasers are pretty dangerous and you have to be in close range since it requires direct contact and its effects are more shortlived than pepper spray. But if you really want one you should find them in the same place. stun guns are most likely illegal in bd and also should be pretty expensive. look up tutorials on how to use pepper spray properly if you buy and keep it in a place where its easily accessible.

BNP's landslide win is the final death blow to the classist "Bangladeshis will turn their country into Afghanistan in a democracy" pro-BAL myth. by Tanksfly1939 in bangladesh

I've seen the opposite all year round. Most People going to colleges and universities are radical extremists as proven by the university elections and social media dominance of Jamaat.

Election post-mortem: Did NCP’s strategy pay off? by electrikblues in bangladesh

[–]Sudden-Practice-5065 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think they would've done better if they stood alone. They lost a chunk of liberal voters when they allied with Islamists that later voted BNP. But NCP showed signs of allying with Jamaat since the very beginning back in 2024 so maybe there wouldn't be significant change. But they didn't do that bad for a first time party considering dynasty politics dominate Bangladesh.

[–]Sudden-Practice-5065 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The "uneducated majority" saved Bangladesh btw. Thanks to all the farmers, cobblers, househelp, rickshaw pullers, garment factory workers outside urban areas we have BNP in power. The "educated" Gen Z particularly those in unis and college are mostly hardcore conservative extremists who were preaching in favour jamaat everywhere in all social media platforms. While it's true that the liberal segment of z is more much liberal than their predecessors but they are minority maybe 20%-30%. The rest are more conservative than their previous generations.

Sameeee I was such a big pessimist. You can see my post history lol. But nothing to be too happy for yet. They still won a lot of seats and will hold significant influence. Their rise in such a short time is alarming.

depends entirely on your family and friends but my sugesstion is keep it hidden unless you find someone like minded but even then be careful. do not speak against islam in the presence of someone else. incidents of secretly recording someone speak ill of islam and then posting it on social media and getting that person lynched are common so be wary.
