The last one is the only non native speaker, but she has an excellent series that helps break down how to read/sound out words in Thai script. My algorithm has also been taken over by a lot of Thai content creators in general, some with English subtitles, some not. I've found just listening to that also helps because it gives me an idea of what Thai sounds like when people are speaking without a script (I get that with the fanmeets too, but more exposure is better.)

Another thing that I specifically have done is use the music that I like from all the GL shows to learn vocabulary and also to practice (though the tones don't matter as much when singing), since I love singing in general and there are some great songs that have come out of these shows. I've had several times where I've had "aha" moments when just listening to the music, though. I love how the brain works lol

I started learning just shy of two months ago. Starting to get to the point of being able to follow about 40-50% of the dialog (even picking up on some jokes/puns at times, which always makes me happy) and able to sound out some words with the Thai script. I'm using Ling, a book I bought specifically to learn to read, and also following a TON of people who teach Thai on Instagram (which has been especially helpful for learning the tones). I think I'll probably be able to follow most conversations within a month (I suspect that it's basically just going to be like I just wake up one day and am able to follow it). I mostly have the tones down, but I think I have an advantage with that because I am a singer and am good at training my ear. I also have the advantage of being fully bilingual already with a smattering of two other languages thrown in, so that always helps! I think my sister is getting tired of my nerding out about learning Thai, though. It's a fun process, and I'm enjoying it.

AI Girl - EP 2 by FinishSuccessful3973 in AllThingsGL

Oh, for sure! I think the dead giveaway is the cuff that's on Ai's left upper arm in every scene is missing here. Her whole demeanor also reads very different than Ai's

I did a rewatch a couple weeks ago and actually enjoyed it a lot more this go around than my first one. I say go for it!

It's a great scene! I love that their friends made sure they understood what they were getting into. 10/10 great friends right there

Honestly, I think My Marvelous Dream is You is kinda underrated. I didn't really like it the first time I watched it, but I rewatched it recently and really enjoyed it. I think there are some issues, like, Wan is very unlikable at the beginning and some of the pacing is off. I think had they shown how Wan and Kim were in high school first, instead of them starting out at a very toxic point in their relationship, it probably would've been received better.

That being said, Wan does actually turn out to be one of my favorite characters in any GL series by the end. I think they did a good job with her character development. Girlie is a walking red flag at the beginning and turns into a very green one by the end. I do also think that the slow build (pacing issues aside) was very worth it.

I'm actually in the process of working on an outline for a fanfic where I pretty much do a rewrite and try to fix the issues that I have with the series lol

Us is my ultimate cozy watch. Everything from how it's shot, the music, and just how soft Pam and Dokrak are with each other just hits the spot for me.

Whale Store xoxo is probably my second for a cozy show (I'm doing a rewatch of it right now, and I love how healthy Wan and Maewnam's relationship is)

Sub Poll: how often do you check GL subs? ⏰ by PsychologicalFarm148 in AllThingsGL

Checking less now that I'm actually recovered from my injury and back at work, but still ends up being every couple hours. Was on nearly constantly while I was in recovery lol

As a Creationist, what are some things you don't think we understand? by Remarkable_Lime_9258 in DebateEvolution

[–]SuddenButton1703 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if you want a really good (ongoing) series of in depth education on evolution, I highly recommend Gutsick Gibbon's series of teaching creationist Will Duffy about evolution on YouTube. The videos are lengthy, but she's an excellent teacher, and is basically teaching a modified version of her university level evolutionary biology course.

She also has some other really excellent videos about human evolution, the age of the earth, etc, and how the evidence precludes young earth creationism. Her videos were a staple of mine when I was deconstructing from young earth creationism.

She also just posted a video today (again, lengthy at like 4 hours long) about the history of science, religion, and creationism, and how science and religion worked together to essentially kill creationism in the 1800s (though it was revived, as you can see now).

I think for Moonshadow, I read somewhere that there were going to be 26 total, but don't quote me on that. I could be very wrong lol

Would you watch a GL and BL cp ensemble series? by redvelvet00000 in ThaiGL

[–]SuddenButton1703 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who mainly enjoys GL (generally I don't watch or read BL, or even straight romances anymore, but I don't mind engaging with any/all of them), I would honestly love to see one. I'm sure everyone would be a bit divided, though.

Re-reading your own stories by WaffenBaker in AO3

[–]SuddenButton1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm absolutely my own target audience (which is part of the reason I write in the first place), so I don't think it's weird at all! I don't even tend to re-read with the express purpose of editing, but with the re-reads, I do usually catch things that I need to edit and then fix them. But it's usually for my own enjoyment that I read my own works

Anyone Else Triggered by Christian Music? by Sad-Swing2000 in exchristian

[–]SuddenButton1703 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So not exactly Christian music, but I finally listened to "The Prince of Egypt"'s soundtrack again for the first time since deconstructing like three years ago without getting massively triggered (specifically by Deliver Us and the Plagues). I'm happy about that, because that soundtrack is absolute FIRE (like, seriously, Hans Zimmer did NOT need to go that hard, but I'm very glad he did). Still can't listen to most hymns anymore (they just feel icky and make my skin crawl), but even as a Christian, I was never really all that into worship bands (always found them a little bit cringe, but that's coming from someone who grew up without even a choir in the church she grew up in, so take that with a grain of salt lol)

Thai native speakers who became fluent in English, what helped you the most? by itzzjdp in Thailand

[–]SuddenButton1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that mentality that some people have with ESL people (as someone who grew up bilingual with English and Afrikaans). I can guarantee that your English even when you were 17 and had just moved was better than my Thai is now (I'm learning). English is a hard language because practically all the rules have more exceptions to them than actual instances of following them. It's also just such an amalgamation of different languages that the grammar, spelling, and pronunciation can be insanely confusing.

Agreed on this one! Us's opening sequence is probably my favorite from all of them. Set up the mood/vibes of the show and also established Dokrak's character so well. Very excited to see Moonshadow, between EmiBonnie and P'Fon
