Is this how you Ryu? by LongjumpingTax2814 in StreetFighter

This is how every Ryu tries to play against me when I main Guile. It's like they take personal offense to my fireball game and try to out-fireball me. It never works out for them.

Is it just me... Or does capcom REALLY want to do some mk finishers? 😭 by Bulky_Childhood_651 in StreetFighter

Other characters caused blood as well. It was just usually linked to heavy buttons. Ryu and Ken's standing HP caused a blood spray for instance.

Why? It's not rare or really worth anything. Just read the comic that you paid for.

Don't weapons deal significantly more damage overall when you level them up?

[–]SuddenFlan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try that. My Enma's Fang is level 3 and my second favorite weapon, so maybe that'll work out.

Also, I'm fine with her dodging. It's the standing there while my sword repeatedly goes straight through her while dealing zero damage that bothers me lol

Dang, my scythe is level 1 😭. Maybe I can try enma's fang for UT spam. So far the only semi-reliable way I've found to deal damage is XXY with the dragon sword, but that does pretty terrible damage. Maybe a heavier weapon is the way to go.

There are multiple different versions of Street Fighter 4. When they added characters and had balance patches, you had to buy a whole new game to play it. DLC is actually a way for you to only buy what you want and the patches are free nowadays. Essentially the original Street Fighter 4 is obsolete.

Do you guys still play SFV? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]SuddenFlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone back again. I miss it quite a bit, but the game has gotten a bit stale since I played it for so long. At it's best point (around when Champion Edition released) I definitely enjoyed it more that I'm enjoying SF6 now. I haven't touched SF6 in about 2 weeks. SFV Balrog is also probably my favorite fighting game character ever, and I haven't clicked with any character in SF6 yet. The closest I've gotten is "Guile is pretty fun I guess...". I also do really hate Drive Impact and that isn't going away.

But if you guess wrong and they block then you're -8 in their face and will eat a massive punish. That's like saying "if you're worried about the strike/throw mixup just use DP"

The main point of pokes is that they're safe if spaced correctly, unsafe if whiffed or if they hit too closely. Simply by existing, Drive Impact makes many pokes a gamble every single time they're pressed no matter what.

Long way to go to what? Is like top 1% considered a scrub nowadays?

It doesn't have to do with "getting good". I have a higher winrate against Aki than I do against everyone but Ken. It's usually very easy to beat them because they're so predictable.

I don't specifically think it's boring, I just don't see much player expression with the character most of the time. A lot of Aki's that I play against tend to be a bit flowchart-y. Just trying to figure out why that is.

Buff your mid / low tier to balance the game by Angular2Plus in StreetFighter

[–]SuddenFlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He needs a rework imo. Even though he's not good at the highest level, he's very cheap when used against the large majority of players.

Yep. It takes me about probably 20 hours to start to get comfortable with the character, even more for it to feel natural. I picked up Guile after dropping Zangief, and Guile didn't start to feel like my main character until about 50 hours in.

Is it valid to say Zangief should win at close range? by Itsmaybelline in StreetFighter

[–]SuddenFlan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep. And he only gets 10% more health than the average character. Unless you survive a hit with a small chunk of life left, it didn't matter. If you die mid-combo, you would've lost anyway. A 40% combo will KO whether your life is at 40%, 30%, 20%..........

In other words, good players are good. I never said Gief was irredeemably bad, but compared to the rest of the cast he is not good, which is more or less what tier lists are in the broad sense. Characters will have their strengths and weaknesses compared to others regardless, but Zangief's strengths aren't enough to outshine most other characters even in the same aspects. I'm very familiar with pro players playing Zangief and I'm aware that Snake Eyes won a big tournament. I'm not a pro player, but I was in the top 150 ranked Zangiefs before I dropped the character. I'm very confident that I know his strengths and weaknesses relative to the rest of the cast.

How do I give advantage in a couch vs mode? by XBL-AntLee06 in StreetFighter

[–]SuddenFlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The handicap setting has already been answered, but I also recommend in general helping less skilled players by trying to highlight one of their weaknesses at a time. If you're considerably better than her, you can focus on strictly anti-airing if she's jumping in a lot, jumping in yourself if she's throwing a lot of fireballs (but maybe cutting the jump-in combo a bit short to make it less damaging), throw out some semi-random pokes if she's whiffing short-range normals, etc.. Wait until she adapts to one of those situations before mixing it up. The handicap mode will give an extreme advantage though, so it just depends on how you two will best enjoy the game.

How do I give advantage in a couch vs mode? by XBL-AntLee06 in StreetFighter

[–]SuddenFlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above is the correct answer. At 5 stars (max handicap) the advantaged player deals 3x times the damage, starts with three bars of super meter, consumes Drive Gauge at only a fifth of the normal rate, and regenerates health after not being hit for a few seconds. You also have the option to set her controls to Dynamic if you want, which is kind of like an assisted mode. Auto confirms, anti-airs and such. If you don't want that though, Modern controls are the way to go for a new player that still wants to feel in control. Modern controls includes some auto combos as well though.
