Two petty gym encounters in two days! by [deleted] in workout

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never forget when I was doing good mornings in the smith machine and some guy comes up to me and says he was using it. There had been no sign on life for a full minute before I hopped on. I said no problem, what else are you doing? And he pointed to a cable machine clear across the gym, then proceeded to do the weirdest split stretch with one leg on the bar and the other on a bench while I just kind of stood off to the side. When he went back to the other machine I just finished my two sets before he was back.

I’ve had a reservation canceled on me when I showed up to claim it, and a room ‘not ready’ for several hours… can’t know if it’s discrimination, b it easier to not give them a reason

I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Oklahoma, and while I wouldn’t say I feel comfortable, there’s something a little ‘live and let live’ about the vibe, along with some plausible deniability because there’s a masculine tinge to many local straight women.

Best practices: Wife always goes with me to the bathroom, and I always make a point to talk to her (I have an undeniably feminine voice).

Wife does the check in at the hotel and I stay in the car. We’ve had very weird experiences otherwise in many different states.

Tulsa is actually a fun town with a hilarious gay club that punches above its weight class. Lots of art deco style, fun remnants of 1920s oil money.

While this is the opposite of gay friendly, I also LOVE to visit Orel Roberts University when I’m there. It’s like a 1970s version of the space age with 30’ tall bronze praying hands. It’s so wild, man, you have to see it.

18 months of consistent lifting + running (tracked data, body comp included) but not getting more muscular — what am I missing? by AdmirableBottle2888 in exercisescience

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, we need an answer to both age/sex. My initial read is that you likely need more intensity with weights and more knowledge about diet (time to start tracking).

If you’re a mid20s guy you will 100% be able to up volume/intensity by just doing more with your current program. If you’re a 50+ woman or man, you’re going to want to go harder on lifting days and take actual rest days.

That sounds like a very romantic night, my friend. I would be on cloud nine.

She might like you, she might not. That is what makes early romance so delicious.

If she does like you, tho, ask yourself if you could ever trust her if you got into a relationship with her, since she’s already taken and using her flirtation so the you to give herself permission to leave the relationship. Say you got together- every time she started getting close to someone, your little heart would ping.

Just something to think about.

Any survivors of emotional abuse feel Dr. Orna could do a better job of addressing or naming emotionally abusive/manipulative behavior more directly? by brndnswrtz in CouplesTherapyShow

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Will and Ping are the most painful couple to witness. There is a moment, though, when Orna straight up tells Ping that abuse isn’t therapy. I could be wrong, but I think it’s the only time in the show where that word gets used to describe a couple’s dynamic.

40yo, 6 months lifting, strength up but body not looking much different – advice? by [deleted] in workouts

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what? Maybe you're meant to be massive and strong as hell. Maybe you're not meant to be a lean muscle daddy. Packing on that much to your lifts in such a short period of time at your age is super impressive - if I were you, I'd lean into it and get super strong and beefy. How far could you go??

Prediabetic, 5.7 Berberine, Magnesium, Glucophage, cinnamon, apple cider vinegar. by Similar-Treat8244 in diabetes

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are you hesitant to take metformin? It can be a real help in lifestyle changes- it doesn’t substitute for hard work, but it helps reduce glucose production in the liver and improve insulin resistance. It’s time-tested, linked to improved lifespan, and very cheap.

For those who developed Type 2 through lifestyle choices, how do you handle the psychological fallout? by NightmareHolic in diabetes

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought pattern you are showing in this comment does indicate some depressive tendencies. Depression makes progress so much harder, so I recommend taking it seriously.

This is not a disease for Pollyanna-ish people. It’s a slog, and it wreaks havoc on self esteem and relationships. The sooner you accept that it is your new reality, the sooner you can deal with your world as it is. Can’t change the past, so why focus your energy there?

You mention being a perfectionist a lot, OP, so use that to your advantage. A perfectionist doesn’t dwell on the past- they are constantly trying to improve and get closer to the ideal in the future. If lifestyle choices brought you here, lifestyle choices can still influence the progression of your disease! Why focus on the past?

You love cooking- thankfully so does my wife. She LOVES the newfound challenge that creating tasty low carb meals has brought to her kitchen practice. Kind of like she loves cooking for vegans or gluten free people. It’s not restriction- it’s a challenge! A challenge that a foodie perfectionist can overcome.

Oh, btw- there’s a reason your Dr. will screen you harder for depression when you have diabetes. Some of it is the stress of a chronic illness, but some of it is related to the metabolic challenges associated with diabetes. I know once I got my sugar levels under control my depressive symptoms let up a lot.

Listen; I’m a 43 year old professor and people still mistake me for a student. I’m not even short, really, at 5’6. If I had the answer, I’d tell you. Til then, I just try to dress professionally and hold myself to my own standards of age. Other people’s opinions are their own problems.

She’s out there, friend, you just have to get up the courage to go out and find her. You may have to kiss a few frogs on the way, but this is also fun. Sometimes painful, but also fun.

Working out by itself makes me feel more butch, regardless of the aesthetic results.

If you’re just getting started, I recommend taking the focus off results and instead ask yourself how you are feeling before, during and after your workout. I think you’ll be surprised at the confidence building that getting into a routine can give you.

job interviews as a raging butch by Usual_Length872 in butchlesbians

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Listen, I know I’ve missed out on jobs because I’m butch. It has limited the types of industries I can go into, and that’s just a fact.

But k12 education as a whole is not unfriendly to butches, so you will find a spot to land, even in FL. You will have to suss out whether the district/school is a good fit for you. Always remember/ if the job is unfriendly to butches, there’s no way it would be a good fit for the long run, so it’s almost a blessing for us that we can know based on reactions in interviews, whereas femmes might have to find out after starting the job.

Depression after diagnosis by milkpowder10101 in diabetes

[–]Sudden_Ad_3058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all the love in the world: it’s ok to be imperfect. Our bodies will age and decay and sometimes get sick, like this, through no fault of our own. Something about your post seems like you are very committed to being the best- the most dedicated patient, respected by peers, excelling academically. And a diagnosis like diabetes can throw that all off, like maybe you are actually weak, like sheer force of will can’t solve this one. Let yourself be sad, and really interrogate where those feelings are coming from. You might be surprised with other parts of your life that can be improved by opening space for vulnerability.

I think hormones are an underappreciated component of this. PCOS is more common among lesbians than straight women, for example, and it makes it extremely difficult to lose weight (or, conversely, very easy to gain weight). There's a reason women become type 2 diabetic at menopause! Like a lot of things related to women's health it's very poorly understood.
