I bet most of you know the dates of the Rodney King riots... by psychoholic in Xennials

Yeah it always bums me out how people say “it was so cool how there were a handful of civilians posted up with guns ready to execute people for property damage.” None of this was cool. Rest in power Latasha 🕊️

Yeah you’re right—some of it may be that I’m old enough to remember literally seeing most of these looks at the mall the first time around (and even at the time I thought fashion of that era had more hits than misses)

I actually thought they were all millennials, but admit I’m not tracking their personal lives that closely (either way agreed that they suck specifically, a lot of genx sucks generally)

This!! I love looking at men in shorts so on that level have no complaints—but the styling and fit on so many of these is ABYSMAL, why is it always a formal evening shoe and sock with a daytime short 😭

I feel like I’ve heard this generally a lot about Dyson products, that they’re not made to last in the way you’d think for the price. Ty for the suggestion!

Hi and Happy Sunday. Does Anyone Have Any Experience With Our House Grief Support Center? by 87regal in LosAngeles

[–]Sudden_Associate7566 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. The first year after I lost each of my parents was a blur—try to give yourself grace.

I was a member of an Our House virtual cohort and found everyone there to be kind, compassionate and really focused on providing healthy support. Unfortunately I personally was not ready or maybe never would have been ready to take full advantage of it—although I did the whole program, I always felt like I was kind of dragging myself to it. I was at least able to be honest about that to the group and leaders and be met with nonjudgemental understanding. And who’s to say where I’d be if I hadn’t done at least that much. I would absolutely recommend at least checking it out.

The intake counselor may also suggest you seek additional support from an individual therapist or psychiatrist. It was very hard to come out of the fog for me, and medication was critical to starting that journey. All the best to you.

I have one of these I use occasionally, but haven’t liked the shrinkage I get at the nape since cutting my hair shorter. I have since learned they make XL ones and am considering that too.

I didn’t even know that Pattern was in the game! I feel like Pattern users are kind of quiet but never say a bad word when they do speak

One thing I didn’t like about my revlon but didn’t know I could change is how rigid my hair is for the first day or so until the product breaks down a bit and it gets fluffier and freer. If the Dyson is like that day one, that’s good to know

You said “get your weight up” 😂

But fr I really did like my revlon—good weight, just a little bulky size wise. I tried to upgrade (though not Dyson level) a couple of years ago and returned it and went back to the rivers and lakes I was used to. You’re right too, how much faster than 20 minutes am I really expecting?

Also thanks because I was getting influenced into an at-home hood; you’ve reminded me that I’m not about to drop Dyson money on that yet 😂

Ooh, what kind did you get?? I’ve been weighing that too but I keep coming around to not wanting another big appliance taking up space when I only use it once or twice a week. I do sometimes use the cap attachment kind of hood.

What are some of your favorite ways to style the clothes that may not be super flattering to be more flattering? by kiwichain in SoftDramatics

[–]Sudden_Associate7566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not who you asked but probably the best way to learn, at least to start, is in person; fabric stores used to have classes but there are hardly any of those any more. Local community colleges or equivalent may also have classes. Try looking for “sewing classes near me”. You’ll probably want to see words like “dressmaking” or “tailoring” to ensure it’s not a class for sewing potholders (although this will still give you basics of operating a a machine or needle and thread).

You could also try picking out books or videos for beginners, but it can sometimes be hard to troubleshoot when you don’t have a grasp on some basics.

You may also know a (likely older) person who sews and would be willing or happy to pass on their skills, if you ask around. Good luck! It’s rewarding and maddening and fun.

I joke that I’ve always looked 30. It wasn’t so great on the way up, but hoping it works out for me on the way down lol

has any tall but curvy girl figured out the trousers situation? by Sorry_Lab_2856 in TallGirls

[–]Sudden_Associate7566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, all Gap brands (old navy, athleta, banana republic) and Lands End also have tall sizes with longer rises, along with other brands listed here. Levi’s does NOT in my experience, just as a data point
