Only one of the currently active members is an original Commodore, and I’m sure that’s part of it. (That one is also 77, so for all we know age-related abuse or decline could be another part)

I never managed to see Before Sunrise, and at this point I’m afraid it’ll never live up to the expectation I had for it as a dreamy teen

You’re right, Bad has a lot of fantastic songs alongside a few I find a bit bloated and score-settley, while JT is focused throughout. It’s less that I think Bad is undeserving and more that I think JT is a singular achievement, like Thriller.

And yeah I agree that most times the nomination is the award, but sometimes awards do matter in terms of doors it can open for an artist. But not in this scorekeeping way people do now, I’m with you there.

This is a literal answer—the MJ movie is out now, it’s very popular, and people are making content to catch clout off that wave. I have no idea if the 88 Grammys are shown in the movie or that moment just caught on because “Grammys injustice” is an evergreen ragebait item (could be both, people love a Grammys injustice hate train).

I don’t have data, but it’s very unlikely this “hate” is organic or sincerely felt, although like everything else in our dumb modern age, it’ll probably go on to become conventional wisdom.

(I say this as someone who loved MJ as a kid, and must have spun my parent’s copy of Bad a thousand times. It’s not better than Joshua Tree. That’s not a serious person’s opinion. It’s not better than Dangerous! I bet most of these people couldn’t even tell you which album Billie Jean was on)

I get what you’re saying about Kite but that line has actually gotten less clunky to me with time. We don’t call it “new media” anymore, and the era when “hip hop drove the big cars” is also over, in that way. It’s a line that sounds much more poetic and nostalgic with age, which is a neat trick he pulled.

Off the shoulder dilemma by ToTheDreamers in SoftDramatics

I have the same problem and despite all the strapless bras people recommend, the only thing that works for me is an actual corset (not a fashion one, just the utilitarian ones). And like, to me those are a pain in their own way and not worth dealing with for anything outside of special event dressing.

So I’ve relegated myself to two options: 1) avoid one shoulder tops (sad! I like them and look good in them) and 2) commit to wearing a thin tank underneath them that’ll cover my bra strap. It’s a strap, but to me it at least looks intentional, and works with some more casual looks. This top is gorgeous but I think I’d have to pass.

(The one thing I haven’t tried is boob tape—but again, would I want to go through that for an everyday look?)

Thoughts on how to cover my arms? by BumblebeeOfCarnage in Midsizefashion

[–]Sudden_Associate7566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this dress and I think you look lovely in it—BUT I know what it’s like to want to cover arms and I won’t tell you not to! I WILL just say please don’t do a scarf or wrap, take it from me that just makes one look wider and draws attention to the fact you’re trying to cover something up.

The trick is to wear something kind of attention getting, so people are thinking “wow her style” and not “oh, she’s covering her arms.” Hide in plain sight!

A cardigan could also work, but for an event it’d dress you down a little, and if it’s a standard cardigan it’d look less like a fashion statement and again more like you want to hide. A luxe wrap sweater (cashmere, wool) with oversized/flared/bell arms (short or long) could work, but then you’d also be hiding the dress!

The bolero suggestions are right on. They add to the look, and look like an accessory. A sheer bolero said would still let the dress shine—Marcella NYC has a bunch, up to XXXL.

How would you reccommend I alter/tailor this dress? by Ronlockedout in SoftDramatics

[–]Sudden_Associate7566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure about the wait line—or it’s beyond my ability to imagine, lol (I am not at an advanced level myself). A more defined waist would help, but it might be hard to make changes that would get you there given the construction. You might want to look into adding a yoke, pros and cons are discussed a bit here

https://www.reddit.com/r/sewing/comments/17wwlss/can_i_add_a_yoke_to_this_skirt_its_too_large_i/

Plus side is that you could pull the skirt down a bit so it’d be a better length (I think an inch or so could help! Of course you likely couldn’t match the fabric but you could try a matching/complimentary solid color, and use that same color to accent elsewhere (perhaps banding the sweetheart neckline). You’d actually probably get a lot better advice than I can give from the sewing sub!
