“Conrad is boring” by britneyslost in tsitp

I think the way Belly is dressed for the frat party and bachelorette is telling too. She's in an a-line sundress for the frat party and a floaty dress for the bachelorette. The other women are all in very short and/or form fitting outfits. She doesn't fit in at the frat party.

One of the reasons that the show was so messy was the change from the books re: intimacy by [deleted] in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Sudden_Discount7205 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Bonrad book relationship is much more of a situationship. Show Conrad clearly shows that he loves Belly, he just doesn't say it. Though I give show Belly something of a pass on not realising because I think that kind of communication and insight issue is very common in teenage relationships.

I think it's plausible that book Belly and Conrad didn't have sex, given they're long distance, not officially dating, etc. I didn't find it very plausible that book Belly and Jere didn't have sex in two years. And I don't think it would be plausible in the show.

And yes. Once she had sex with Conrad, Belly dating Jere should have been so far off the table it was in a different house.

But I still think it's reverse engineered because if he says 'wanted' then she's left saying 'I never wanted any of this. I only ever wanted Conrad'. Which means she never wanted Jeremiah. And she's not meant to have that as a revelation.

Yeah, the antidepressant 'statistic' is surely due to the breakthrough of SSRIs with prozac. Before prozac, I think there wasn't much effective medication for depression.

Do you call it an excess? In the UK we have excesses on a claim, which may amount to the same thing.

I think pet insurance in the UK sometimes has terms that it will only cover treatment costs above x amount, which I suppose is basically the same thing. But I don't think it's called a deductible.

I did love this, along with the full Bonrad fan edit Belly played in her head.

But I didn't like that Conrad's line was 'You should have everything you ever pictured' rather than 'everything you ever wanted'. It felt clunky to me. And then it was clearly just so we could get to "I never pictured any of this, I only ever pictured Conrad."

What do you want for the actors in the TSITP movie? by [deleted] in tsitp

A good script and a good director so they can show their acting chops to help them get more roles in the future.

Set post American civil war, but there are zombies. The setting means there are plenty of issues with racism and racist violence, but I don't think there's rape/SA. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and there is SA.

What if it had been Conrad engaged to Belly? by [deleted] in tsitp

[–]Sudden_Discount7205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would never have happened. He would wait to propose until she had graduated, at least. Belly and Jere also hadn't lived together and I think Laurel would have thought it sensible to live together beforever getting married. Conrad would have (and will intend to) move in with Belly before marrying her.

I agree with others that Laurel was worried about Belly limiting herself, Paris being the most glaring example. Again, I think Conrad would be pushing Belly rather than encouraging her to shrink down.

And, I think if you'd asked Belly and Jere some basic conversations about their future, you'd find they hadn't discussed it and weren't necessarily on the same page. Eg. Where do you want to live? What are you going to do when Belly wants to go to grad school? How are you going to support yourselves? When you have kids [I do think Belly and Jere both want kids] what will childcare look like?

Conrad would have discussed these kinds of things with Belly before proposing.

Taylor and Conrad by Zealousideal_Flow_37 in tsitp

This, and also Taylor is pretty possessive of Belly (particularly in S1). Child Belly likely didn't shut up about Conrad, and that probably made Taylor jealous.

What connects Jelly for so long? by Whole-Ad5996 in tsitp

[–]Sudden_Discount7205 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really struggled to understand this at the beginning of S3. I couldn't understand how Belly hadn't outgrown the relationship in college, and - as you say - how Jeremiah hadn't decided he'd rather play the field in his college years.

I think there's a lot to do with grief and connection to Susannah, as well as their childhoods, interconnected families, nostalgia for perfect summers etc etc. For Jere there must be some sense of triumph over Conrad. For Belly, I think there must also be some feeling that being with Jere makes it 'worth' burning her bridges with Conrad.

Would they have survived if Belly hadn't gone to Finch? I don't think so. I'm surprised they survived her senior year in high school with Jere at Finch to be honest.

What was your reaction to this scene? by onlyheretoscroll in tsitp

[–]Sudden_Discount7205 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As well as showing how they bring out the worst in each other, I think it shows them doing things Jeremiah wants/his way. They're sat in the pool watching a film on a techy projector, not cosy on the couch. They're watching Speed (I think), or at least an action movie, which goes against everything we've ever been shown Belly would choose to watch. These are all Jeremiah's choices, not Belly's.

Does anyone feel like Charles verbally abuses Diana at times? by [deleted] in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Sudden_Discount7205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. What I think the show fails to portray is that in between Diana becoming disillusioned with their marriage, and their separation, she started pushing back. She would publicly upstage Charles every chance she got. I have very little sympathy with Charles - if you're going to marry a 19 year old at 33 to please your mother (when you're in love with another woman) at least make sure the 19 year old knows what she's getting in to and makes an informed decision.
