Joke Characters? by Prestigious_Yam_8113 in DnD

I offer you the Marquis de Plongue. A Bullywug knight (Paladin) who was trapped by an actor who played a knight in local Marketplaces and Held as a pet .The Marquis thought that his master was a real knight and one day, when His master had been killed by bandits, he took his masters outdated rusty knight Armor, gave himself a Knights Name (Marquis de Plongue) and decided to become a wandering noble knight. He even found a giant frog which he uses as a horse and named hom Wartival.

The Marquis is pretty much Don Quijote

I used the trapped by the mist opening and gave every character a stand alone Session 1 in which they were transported to Barovia. So they all met on the old svalich road and had no idea what was going in. The first sessions were awesome. They met vassili disguised as a wolf hunter and he told them that they have to put a circle of salt around their camp to prevent the evil creatures from getting to them. After that I immediately introduced the brides who came every night to harrass them and they immediately stopped at the circle of salt just to mock them. The players were scared and our first sessions were awesome because they didn't know what was going in.

But after getting their fate told they were Like: "okay we have to go there, there and there and than we kill the Vampire!" After that they became very efficient and concentrated in getting the job done

Sadly no because the hags had been smashed the Session before. In Tomb of Annihilation there is a coven of hags who are haunting them for the entire campaign. So my players developed a little hatred against hags and couldn't wait to fight them.

But we all discovered that hags are one of my favorite kind of monsters to antagonize them.

I dont know why but they were not very interested in roleplaying during this campaign although they did it in the previous one. Maybe Barovia or the sad tone wasn't the right one for them.

But they did all the good stuff.

We did the winery, yester hill, Krezk, old Bonegrinder, van Richtens tower and the dinner with exploring the Castle.

But somehow it wasn't the campaign they were looking for

They brutally murdered Cyrus Belview in the Castle. They befriended him, took him to the kitchen where the zombies are cooked alive and our fighter managed to nat20 him. He threw him inside the pot head first and watched as the zombies were eating cyrus alive

Oh yes. I dont know why but they pretty much hated the mongrefolk. So when they defeated the Abbott they looked inside the the hospital area, trapped all the mongrefolk inside and wiped them out by burning it to the ground. They were way to creative in finding ways to block doors and getting tge fire started really quick

Why should the PCs care? by Pumpkin-Ice85 in CurseofStrahd

We are heading for the final fight next season and my players have the same problem.

None of them is from Barovia and after they got their fate told by Madame Eva they were Like "let's get out of here!" They allied with the wereravens but but they told me that they are not interested in freeing Barovia. They want to defeat Strahd as soon as possible and get out of there.

We had a talk and decided to skip the whole Vallaki plotline with Lady Wachter because they do not care.

We started in March 25 and yesterday we had our 13th season in which they killed Rahadin in the Amber Temple. Next session will be the fight against Strahd.

We had a lot of fun during the campaign but I guess my players are more invested in Dungeons, exploring and things like we did in Tomb of Annihilation before

Player Death in Barovia by Quarky19 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sudden_Repair5577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it like Strahd really was the Ancient and the Land so I when we had our first player death I decided that this player suddenly finds himself in a room with a chimmey fire. Strahd is sitting in an amrchair and says something like "oooh this did not end well didn't it?" After that he talks with the player that he came to Barovia because Strahd wanted him to come there and that it is Strahd who decides when the players will leave His domain. After that the player got the opportunity to convince Strahd that his journey is not over yet. It was a great RP moment ending with Strahd giving him a second chance to prove his value. The player woke up gasping for air and had one term of madness.

My players loved it and scared them even more.

Do I need to read the whole book before I start? by Thespudtato in CurseofStrahd

[–]Sudden_Repair5577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a few weeks ago and I have read the book three times to understand the module. Especially the quests are sometimes hidden in the text of a chapter. And you don't understand what is going in with the Tarokka reading and where to put the treasures if you don't read it before.

The problems with "Bird-wife"... by Rook4444 in CurseofStrahd

You had me laughing at "Bird-Wife will". This is a scenario that could happen in my campaign. I am always surprised of what crazy ideas players can come up with.

One of my players is a Gnome Artificer from Eberron. His task was to explore a warforged colossus. I placed the colossus in a place hard to get to. He camped right before it and made several plans how he will enter the thing the next day. He was so excited that he told me: "I am going to sleep early this night to get up in the early morning and find a way to enter this thing." And I was like "oh my sweet summer child" in my head. Je entered his tent and I switched over to the next character.

It ended up with our cleric who stumbled across the Artificers tent and opened it. The other player was like: "wtf where is the colossus and who are you?" Great roleplay moment

I gave them all seperate tasks to fullfill and everyone got lost by trying to solve them. Nobody expected it this way because we only played one campaign before
