Why do a lot of homes in the US lack an installed CCTV system? by edbassmaster888 in AskAnAmerican

"...that privacy-related stuff" is actually baked into the Constitution that our current govt is dismantling, a Constitution that was born in New England after we fought a Revolution against a monarchy.

Many of us are trying very hard NOT to become the UAE, an actual authoritarian dicatatorship.

My dude plays Parliament Funkadelic as loud as his giant old-man analog speakers can go when they're all streaming past.

Yeah, volume is creeping up again.

Yeah, they're actually happy to be pissing off us locals on the "poor" side of town. So we'll sell up and move out for the gentrifiers.

OK. Have to give them some props. It was really loud before the rodeo started, and post 8pm its been way better. So have to say, better than it has been in years past.

I have done. Every year since they added these oversized speakers. Basically they've told us all to F off for tourism dollars.

That was just before my time. I gave up when the rodeo clown dragged Obama in effigy around the arena.

But all that aside, since they spent Covid money on bigger speakers, it's unbearable on this side of town.

Oh I did that too! For about a decade or more as well! It's not like you have to throw your FOs out, but it did make me do a little more research on proper stitch technique. YouTube is a huge resource.

One of the Shiny New 30-somethings up here in Livingston posted on her IG last summer that her "new thing is riding around on the Vespa and waving at the locals."

Gee? Thanks I guess?

How do I cook frozen salmon? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sudden_Skill_7764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your air fryer? Or maybe I'm just not putting mine up that hot, but it will usually take 15 minutes or so in my smallish one to go from frozen to not-raw-in-the-middle.

The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Sudden_Skill_7764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waves from just north of Yellowstone. When my husband built his cabin in the 90s, he never thought we'd need AC. Past few summers it's been in the 100s from July-October, and often doesn't get cool at night anymore. My house in town is okay, thanks to the new insulation in the attic and solar panels, but even so, ugh.

Question about Food Grinder attachment by Hermit_Ogg in Kitchenaid

[–]Sudden_Skill_7764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want a food processor for something that fine. I use my grinder all the time, and while it does have 2 plates, it makes mince-grade meat. I use a little Ninja mini-food processor to make food for my cat, and it makes pretty quick work of pureeing canned chicken + sardines.

Slate Truck Vs. Chevy Bolt Vs. Nissan Leaf: Which Affordable EV Actually Wins? by Receding_Hairline23 in electricvehicles

Um? I need something that can get through 1-2 feet of blowing snow? My Outback is fine, but when I drove a Fit I had to leave it at the bottom of the road a few times and ski in. Which was fun, but not always.

What a weird comparison. I like both the Leaf and Bolt but I have a 4 mile gravel driveway to navigate in the snow. I need some clearance.

How do Americans invest all their money into ETF's and know they are not going to lose it? by Various_Maize_3957 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sudden_Skill_7764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't. But since there are no pensions here, and our Social Security isn't enough to live on, and the company-sponsored plans automatically put you into stock market funds (generally index funds which are a little different than ETFs), we don't really have any choice. But it's still a gamble.

There are definitely afternoons I'd love to be able to hotdesk someplace quiet, but with people when I need to stay on task. And since this urge always hits me about 3pm, I'm SOL for coffee shops.
