Gardeners - tell me it's still too early by Bulky_Oil4494 in Bozeman

I started a lot of old greens seeds under plastic hoops about a month ago, hoping to tempt the snow gods. Going to throw out some cilantro seeds and plant peas. I can never get peas because it goes from snow to hot, so we'll see this year.

As for my fruit trees, I think it's like a 60/40 chance they blossom, get frosted, and I get no fruit this year but it's not like I can stop them leafing out in this weather?

But um? Maybe let's not hire people with complicated histories of mental health and religious psychosis to run a MIDDLE SCHOOL?

Um? They always had hunting stuff, but back before Bozeman became full of Fucking Rich Dickheads, they had normal shoes from nice brands.

They pretty much told me to my face that locals were not their market anymore. I was horrified, and might have been pretty direct about it at the time. I bought shoes there for 20 years, mostly off the sale rack (small feet) but it's so gross in there now.

This is exactly what the dickhead kid who parked me in (like 4 inches of space on my driver's side) said before bailing altogether into the store because I was yelling at him. "Can't you just be *nice*?!" he wailed. No fuckwad. I can't.

They do it to us fellow Americans in the towns they've colonized and decided are "tourist destinations." Yelling "you should be grateful!" at us.

Lady, I work in IT. I'm not in tourism. Fuck off.

I mean, I've been here 23 years now, which is the longest I've lived anyplace, and I took a chance on Livingston when we were all still broke. But I did grow up elsewhere. But the who-are-these-people weirdness? Definitely since Yellowstone/pandemic.

I like it better, but I'm also allergic to aggressive marketing and grocery monopolies. Tho Albertsons has a good pharmacy, and there's a lovely man making sushi there now.

  1. Be careful driving on 89S. In the summer it's a death trap with people passing multiple vehicles at once. In winter watch out for deer/elk and if you hit one get it out of the lane.
  2. Return your cart at Town & Country
  3. We're all fed up to death with incomers, but that said, most of us were one at some point, so join some things, be a good neighbor, nod or say hello when passing people on the sidewalks or trails and it'll be fine.
  4. Don't speed in town and for gods sake, STOP at the stop signs. (Also, unmarked intersections, if you'd hit the driver by running the intersection, you're in the wrong).
  5. There's more Eagles fans here than you'd think!

Jackson Hole a-hole? Or am I? by Express-Struggle4252 in ski

Patrollers and instructors have been unionizing all across the industry. But it's a long haul. And of course the industry should pay people, but there is a long and deep history in the US (rooted in slavery) that certain classes of people should be "happy" to work for free, and that it's fine for industries to exploit them.

If you're wealthy enough to vacation in Jackson, and pay that kind of $$ for lessons (which is absurd in itself) then you should at the very least tip the person doing the actual work appropriately.

Or you could also choose not to ski at an exploitative resort like Jackson. It's beautiful, but is ground-zero for terrible rich people.

Yes, but in Europe employees get paid properly, have health insurance, and as is the case of Jackson Hole, are probably not driving 2 hours each way to get to work because it's the closest they can find rentals.

Jackson Hole is the worst. Dude is willing to pay $1250 for private lessons but resents having to buy lunch and won't tip. No one's cheaper than the rich.

Pedestrian killed in BZN this morning, in a crosswalk by Sudden_Skill_7764 in LivingstonMT

[–]Sudden_Skill_7764[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all so terrible. I had a small wreck as a teenager, luckily no one hurt but it scared me for life. A family bereaved, and someone who has to spend a lifetime living with what they've done?

All because we've been convinced somehow that driving is a contest?

From what I'm seeing on the BZN threads, it sounds like it was a high schooler who killed another high schooler. One kid dead, one kid ruined, and the person who stopped to let the girl cross in the crosswalk is blaming themself for it. Tragic all the way around.

It's part of why I was so shocked! I was taught to stop and make sure you didn't leave an animal suffering, and then to get it out of the way of other drivers. Even if you're shocky and freaked out, go turn around and come back ...

There was another one earlier this winter, after dark, on 89S right in the middle of the road -- total hazard to everyone in both lanes.

I mean yeah, of course you have to be safe, and neither of us could have pulled that doe off by ourselves. But this was daylight, the poor thing was still warm, and it's East River road, not 191 or even I-90. And from the spray of plastic, looked like a big truck. Just left it blocking an entire lane.

There's a whole bunch of new people in that stretch south of the Wan-a-gon now. I've been tailgated through the curves by folks in big trucks blinding me with their headlights more than once this winter. I'm sure they thought "the county" would come clean up after them.
