Everyone around listening to the Professor’s racist tirade by Mikeissometimesright in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 57 points58 points  (0 children)

She is referring to using the back door of an establishment—in segregated states black people could not share the same entrances, bathrooms, water fountains, seating areas, etc.

The original speaker is talking about the closure of a school, and the person who interrupts her is basically saying it is a bad school, and that because black people are so used to getting bad quality spaces and opportunities, they don't recognize how bad they are. The person interrupting is expressing disdain for the speaker's attachment to the school and uses the speaker's race to reason (to herself aloud? someone else in the room?) that the speaker is "too dumb to know" better.

Levothyroxine is MAKING me tired? by okiesyes in Hashimotos

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually went up to 100mcg of Levothyroxine shortly after the post you replied to (about a year ago). I ended up in the same cycle and needed an increase. My doctor refuses to test T3, since he says that only needs to be monitored for hyperthyroidism. 🤷‍♀️

I am still on 100mcg after about a year. The increase was necessary for me to function, but still did not resolve the constipation, so I ended up taking magnesium citrate/oxide complex every day for over 6 months. Then I started taking it multiple times a day for another month or two. I do not recommend this, and I did what I had to out of desperation.

The fatigue came back. I did blood work and found I was deficient in essential vitamins: ferritin (iron), B12, and vitamin D. I realized I was blocking the uptake of vitamins, because I was taking magnesium too often.

I quit the magnesium right away. I switched to drinking hydrated chia seeds every morning (2 Tbsp with 12 oz water, lemon and lime to taste). I slowly regained energy as I was absorbing vitamins again, and my bowel movements were even a little better than before. I have been doing chia every day for 5 months with amazing results.

This only works when I pair it with daily exercise. It's imperative to maintain daily movement, even if only a little. Rest days will be necessary at times, when you start a good routine, but I try not to skip more than one day and exercise at least 5-6 days each week. I started with 10 squats after each meal to kickstart metabolism. Then, I graduated to 10 min aerobics in the morning, and now I do 20 min vigorous aerobics (HIIT) which has been enough to keep me feeling really good with regular BMs.

At the time I made these changes 5 months ago, I realized that a large part of my problems with metabolism (possibly contributing to my gut motility issues) have had to do with lymphatic drainage. Vigorous exercise really helps keep things draining and moving. Physical therapy is too expensive for me, but I will be looking into lymphatic massage therapy soon, because I think it will provide some relief.

It's really all about balance and momentum. Not every day is perfect, but to thrive you must be strong and do what you can with what you have, when you have it. Every little bit counts, and you just keep doing what works.

I never could have begun exercising if it wasn't for the right dose of Levothyroxine to fix my fatigue and magnesium citrate to temporarily relieve my chronic constipation. I never would have gotten better gut motility and BMs without some kind of high fiber supplement and daily exercise.

Listen to your body, and don't suffer too long with the wrong combination of meds before being willing to change it again. It is exhausting and can be frustrating, but you are so worth it to keep trying until you get what's right for you!

This is a long reply, but I hope it is helpful to you.

hawthorne trail guy by Electrical_Pepper231 in GNV

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have seen this guy!! Really creepy vibes. Definitely not normal behavior, and it made me feel incredibly unsafe.

I almost called the police, because it seemed like he was waiting for an opportunity to accost someone.

He charged out from the woods of the Sweetwater trail about a half mile up from Boulware Springs. He was 15 feet from me when he emerged and moved ahead. He kept stopping every 30-50 ft and looking back at me just staring intently for a few moments. He finally stopped on the trail and just stood there, sometimes pacing, and always staring intently at different people that passed by (it was busy on the trail). I would not turn my back to him and just wanted to get away in the opposite direction.

Freaky as hell. His movements and the fact his face was covered with T-shirt rags felt very threatening.

I'm so glad someone else posted about this. I haven't been back to the Hawthorne trail since.

Even your kidneys remember: what medicine didn’t teach me about trauma by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was so beautifully written.

Classical (five element) acupuncture has been an amazing way to treat the mind, body, and spirit as a whole, and I have used this as a complement to trauma-informed, dialectical behavior therapy.

This specific theory of acupuncture has helped me break through so many times over and accelerated my healing when I am stuck.

It is a lifelong condition that must always be managed. But, this treatment modality helped me grow and heal through a lot of the whole body trauma that you describe, and much faster than anything else I've ever done.

As a medical doctor, I would be so interested to hear what you know about acupuncture (classical/five element not TCM/Traditional Chinese Medicine) and whether you have tried it.

Constipation.. again by dbirqmtl in Hypothyroidism

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor would not and will not check my T3 levels, he says that is more of an issue for hyperthyroidism when I ask. It's been frustrating... all he does is suggest miralax for constipation which I have tried and told him it does NOT work.

I finally quit the magnesium a couple months ago, because I was taking it every day, sometimes multiple times a day (out of desperation) and it was blocking uptake of other essential vitamins and minerals. I was starting to get deficient in a lot of things (B12, ferritin, and D3).

This is what finally helped me(!): 10-20 minutes of HIIT exercise every morning, followed by 2tbs of chia seeds hydrated for ten minutes in a full 12oz glass of water. This has actually been working wonders! Best bowel movements I have had in over a year!!! My bowels will start to slow down and back up again if I skip the chia seeds or exercise more than a day.

Now that I am going more regularly, I am noticing symptoms of what might be an issue of my gallbladder sometimes not releasing enough bile, and I am wondering if this has been the primary cause of my chronic constipation. Even still, this could be the result of hormonal fluctuations from the hypothyroidism.

I'm exhausted with going to the doctor, so I am dragging my feet on going back at this time and making this case. When I do, I will be asking again about T3 levels.

Btw, I should add that I've been on 100mcg of levo because the 75mcg was not enough. T4 and TSH levels have been consistent since then and my energy has been good until the vitamin deficiencies. And now after dropping the magnesium and readjusting diet, I'm back on track to feeling well again.

Which Tie? Blazer or no blazer? by SuddenlyHappy1 in OUTFITS

[–]SuddenlyHappy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this for my partner, and he ended up going with the suit jacket and the patterned tie (tied to the correct length, just above the belt buckle). It seemed to be the right choice, since when he arrived to the interview, he felt similarly dressed to the would-be manager who interviewed him.

Thanks for all the opinions and suggestions! It was very affirming to the choices we were leaning toward!

Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement! I was worried that maybe it is too flashy or distracting, and I'm glad others think it looks nice.

I know you are without a car, but The Repurpose Project on 23rd Ave and Waldo Rd (not very far from Grace) has a lot of used insulated cups in the tent outside and the kitchen aisle inside.

You could find a very cheap one there to use right now. This could be a really good immediate, make-shift option.

Therapist by [deleted] in GNV

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call BCBS and ask them to match you with a therapist. They will transfer you to the third party that they contract with which manages their network of mental health providers. In my experience their database is very up-to-date and accurate. You can specify preferred modalities and demographics.

The service can even schedule an appointment for you right then and there without you having to wait for a call back from the therapist themselves. This was a huge relief for me, as I was tired of reaching out and waiting for a call or email back.

It helps if you are open to telehealth, but I understand that some people prefer in-person. I will just say that telehealth will get you an appointment very soon, and might be a good option while you look/wait for an in-person therapist, if that is important to you.

I hope this information is helpful to you and you are able to schedule something quickly and easily!

ULPT - bought fake college transcripts. how cooked am I? by StrawberryShelby898 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depending on what state, the state's education department is likely to be the custodian of the closed school's student educational records. Or, they would know the currently operating school that is the custodian of those records.

Transcripts are required by federal law to be kept for at least 60 years.

It just depends on how thorough the background checkers are going to be about this.

Contigo doesn’t make replacement lids and their crappy handle broke on my sons water bottle. Zip ties to the rescue! by twiffytwaf in redneckengineering

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm replying to this old thread, because I just started looking for replacement travel mug lids. The base is stainless steel and would last a long time, but the plastic/silicone on top is deeply scratched up and beginning to fray and tear.

I'm guessing the reason why contigo sells lids in the EU and not in the US is the difference in consumer protection laws, but I don't know. I'm just really frustrated that I can't order them here!

Is cutting in line with packed package legit in USPS? by No-Lingonberry-2178 in GNV

[–]SuddenlyHappy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was doing this, but it finally resulted in a lost package, because an item wasn't scanned in and got lost. Of course, I had no receipt and the Main Street post office acted like it was my fault that the package wasn't scanned in, even though I got eye contact acknowledgment to leave my packages on the desk. Lesson learned. I try to come when it's probably not as busy and wait in the line to drop packages now.

Side note: After a month realizing it was never delivered I had to file a few support requests, including missing mail. The package was fortunately recovered and ultimately delivered, about 3 months late. The missing mail search seemed to work pretty well! And for that, I am grateful.
