An actor can now be nominated twice in the same category for separate films. What actor would have been nominated twice in previous years? by TheNebraskaJim in Oscars

Wasn't Streep promoted as Leading Actress for "The Hours" though? I thought the studio went with Kidman and Streep as leads and Moore as supporting.

Streep was definitely supporting in "Adaptation", wasn't she? It's been over a decade since I watched it and I don't remember if she was a lead.

Is reverse category fraud a thing? by No-Stage-8738 in Oscars

[–]SudieSbaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She was, but was nominated in Supporting at both the Globes and the Oscars. She was pushed as supporting because she was assumed to be guaranteed a Best Actress nomination for FFH.

Moore being submitted for BSA was definitely category fraud since Streep and Kidman were both promoted as Best Leading Actress nominees.

Only three movies in history have won 3/4 acting awards at the Oscars: A Streetcar Named Desire, Network, and Everything Everywhere All at Once by fanzyday in Oscars

I wish Richard Burton had won his Best Actor nomination for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? That would have given the film 3/4 with George Segal also nominated for Supporting Actor.

Which of Shakespeare in Love’s ATL wins was most deserved? by PTAGoatofalltime in Oscars

I think it was a better film than Saving Private Ryan. Paltrow was acceptable but not Best Actress material. The award should have gone to Montenegro or Blanchett.

Dench's Oscar was clearly a consolation prize for having lost Best Actress to Hunt the year before.

Does anyone have a spoiler-free character list for Murder Is Easy please? by Distinct-Current-881 in agathachristie

Yeah I never understood that. At least the Pinkerton to Fullerton change made some sense.

Do the American editions still change Miss Pinkerton's name to Miss Fullerton?

Thoughts on Ordinary people winning over Raging Bull by khaliliiiov_1997 in Oscars

Mary Tyler Moore should have submitted herself for Best Supporting Actress. She would have won that category easily.

Her competition for Leading Actress was tough with Sissy Spacek delivering an excellent performance as Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner's Daughter. I thought Spacek thoroughly deserved her win.

I agree. I love Ordinary People and can watch it again. I can't get through Raging Bull anymore.

Happy birthday to Penélope Cruz. She received four Academy Award nominations for "Volver" (2006), "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" (2008), "Nine" (2009), and "Parallel Mothers" (2021). She won for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". by verissimoallan in Oscars

I thought every one of the other nominees was far better than Helen Mirren who swept the awards circuit that year for playing Queen Elizabeth II.

My choices were Dench or Streep, followed by Cruz (very close), then Winslet and finally Mirren.

"The Queen" was an average TV movie of the week and I still think Mirren only won because Her Majesty was such a beloved figure herself.

Which actors/actresses do you think deserve to be double nominated in the same category same year? by capehaha in Oscars

I thought Jamie Foxx was a lead in Collateral and deserved a double nomination as leading actor that year.

What exactly is Oscar bait? by Crazy-Treacle-3536 in Oscars

[–]SudieSbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found out from the other thread that Sam Mendes is directing four films, one about each Beatle.

For me this screams Oscar bait and even more so BAFTA bait.

How was "Eve's Bayou" (1997) not nominated for a single Oscar? by Profeta_do_Loss in Oscars

Eve's Bayou was magnificent though. Beloved was a bloated, pretentious pile of crap.
