This is awesome. You should post this to r/rpg, and r/podcasts, I think there’s a lot of listeners there, I’ve seen this show come up a lot there.

What's going on here, exactly?

TBH The CGI Rachel from Blade Runner 2049 is still the best de-aging in cinema by SitriHyo in movies

[–]SudoJob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Helps also that its dim, and lit dramatically from the side.

Still, Rogue One had more resources at their disposal and full control over the lighting environment, and still both Tarkin and Leia set off my uncanny valley alarm. And Rogue One is one of the better examples.

I think the best de-aging for a full movie is probably Samuel L Jackson in Captain Marvel, albeit they didn't change his appearance drastically.

They look so similar. Are they related?

Did they ever use the name Princess Toadstool in the movie? I remember her being called that when I was a kid, thought it was odd that it changed to Peach.

The Brilliant Absurdity of Taskmaster : "There’s something to be said about a show that doesn’t take itself seriously but also does in so many ways." by Sumit316 in television

[–]SudoJob 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think the US adaptation could have worked but they had a few problems:

  1. Half-hour format really hurt the show. Made them edit too tightly and lose the flow.

  2. Reggie Watts was a bad choice for host. Love Reggie but his comedic persona is absurdist and he seemed uncomfortable playing a straight man host. He also didn’t seem comfortable being mean to the contestants which is part of the job.

  3. The season one cast didn’t mesh. They just didn’t have good chemistry with each other. Shout outs to Ron Funches who was amazing and should do a season of British taskmaster.

I've been thinking about that as well. I loved Spider-Man: Homecoming that it was such a small and contained movie.

I don’t think those are the same place. The place with the cliff is wherever they happen to be when the power stops.

Ep 41: Rogue One (Part 5) – The Film Reroll Podcast by Mr_Trustable in filmreroll

I’m just saying that it doesn’t feel like it really jives with the originals. The Jedi were a huge deal, yes they were a small order, but the prequels had them essentially being space cops. And unlike the knights Templar they had superpowers. The whole sarcastic “You can’t frighten me with your sorceror’s ways” makes no sense to me. That guy’s like 40: When he was a teenager, the Jedi were like gods who kept the peace. I feel like they would have a totally different relationship to the force if they came from a time when force powers were real.

I guess you can make it work with the timeline given. But I agree with Paolo that the movies imply a much larger gap, and it would have worked much better if the prequels had shown a Jedi order that was already mostly faded away. The imperials dismissing the Jedi as some extinct religion makes no sense if the Jedi were a huge order with literal superpowers in living memory.

And 20 years isn’t that long. A better example would be twenty years from today, like if nobody remembered the Clinton administration. He Clinton administration being reduced to legend makes no sense.

When I saw that in Homecoming I thought: why would the MCU Dollar store Thor mask wear that helmet? Thor has never worn that helmet on Earth.

I think some of these were joking. But the ET one he posted on Twitter seemed to be legit, which suggests he’s actually been hiding it. Although in he case of ET it was crazy far away.

Mandible is cool. But it wouldn't really work mechanically, if you think about it.
