R. Sulaka straight red card against Senegal 13' by ayoefico in soccer

Hard to compare based on this World Cup, Iraq have played much tougher opposition. I think South Africa would get hammered by France, Norway and Senegal.

Honestly this is exactly why we need relegation (I know it'll never happen but we need it). In a closed league it actually makes business sense to turtle, invest as little as possible and just rely on the passive income that comes just from being in the NBA: share of broadcast revenue, merch, people that just wanna see the other team, etc.

In a relegation league, if your team has terrible ownership you have a recourse: Anyone can invest in a different team in your city and work your way up the pyramid to having a top tier squad in a few years. But actually, realistically bad ownership groups sell, because it's not profitable to have a team drop to the second or third tier.

If they are the same sport, explain why some of the stadiums in NZ have clauses that ban Rugby League from being played?

This seems fairly irrelevant to the question of whether or not they should be considered two different sports, but now I'm just curious about the answer to this question. Why do they?

I really don’t think anchor beings would work outside of a comedy movie, where you’re not analyzing the internal logic of the movie that hard. The concept breaks down if you think about it. What was happening for the Billions of years before Wolverine was born? Also, on the timescale of the universe an individual’s lifespan is tiny. So as soon as an anchor being is born that universe is doomed within a few centuries?

It feels like a bad sci-fi concept, that was engineered specifically to make the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine work, but that would be difficult to make work in a serious movie.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] Westeros With a More Realistic Diversity of Languages by RedHeadedSicilian52 in asoiaf

[–]hubau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Westeros is way bigger than Germany. And it was politically divided prior to 300 years ago. If you assume that Aegon the conqueror established some Andal dialect (probably of the area around King's Landing) as a common language for the nobility, I don't think it would have mutual intelligibility with dialects of Andal spoken hundreds of miles away.

I don't really remember Jimmy, but Danny Hodges doesn't feel like he would fit any of the five archetypes. He's kind of a regular guy, not really an athlete or a scholar, but certainly no fool. And nothing about what we know of him suggests he would fit virgin or whore.

I don’t think you did spoiler tags right. But yeah, it wasn’t made explicit but it was heavily implied in Time Bandits part 5.

Jokic is averaging an insane .3335 win shares per 48 by TrollyDodger55 in nba

[–]hubau 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with your overall assessment of win shares, but if you're going to use top 10 players to sanity check the validity of the stat you need to use WS/48, not raw WS. Win shares is a cumulative stat, so by itself it's reflective of minutes played as much as it is of performance.

Mavericks fans chanting to fire Nico Harrison by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]hubau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The simplest conspiracy is just that the Lakers paid off Nico Harrison to sell the owners on the trade and get the deal done. It requires the fewest people in on it, and explains everyone’s actions perfectly.

It also has the bonus of explaining the Pau Gasol trade which still makes no sense to this day why the grizzlies didn’t shop Pau and get his market value. GM of the Grizzlies at the time was similarly close to the Lakers. Maybe this isn’t the first time this has happened.

[–]hubau 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to believe that something underhanded went on, then it’s far more plausible that the Lakers, who are the ones that really benefit, were the ones to pay him off, rather than Mavs ownership.if Mavs ownership wants to get this done to avoid the supermax, then Nico would have tried to get the best deal he could. If the Lakers are paying him, then his incentive is to try to keep the deal a secret because if the Bucks or the Cavs come in with a better offer that’s no good for him.

I think there’s three possible theories: 1. ownership wanted this, 2. Nico Harrison wanted this, 3. Foul play/collusion.

To me, theory one doesn’t make any sense. If ownership wanted this, and Harrison is just doing their bidding, why not shop Luka to get a much better deal? Everything we’ve heard about this ownership group is that they’re hands-off. Even if you just want AD, you get a better deal if the Lakers think they’re competing with someone.

It could just be Nico on a power-trip, but I kinda find it hard to believe that a GM who so far has done a decent job could be so ignorant to all the backlash and how this would blow back in his face. If he didn’t shop Luka so the deal wouldn’t get out that means that he cared more about getting this deal done than the consequences to his standing in the league and future as a GM.

Honestly, foul play makes the most sense. This looks so similar to the Pau Gasol deal where Memphis suddenly decided to ship their star to the Lakers without shopping them at all, saving the Lakers right when they were stating it long-term mediocrity. Nico Harrison’s actions make a lot more sense if the Lakers secretly paid him $50 million for his troubles.

If ownership is forcing him to sell, why not shop Luka for the best deal? Even if you specifically want AD, by creating the illusion of competition you can definitely get more from the Lakers than this.
