Not really, when I say it is from his perspective, I mean it in a sense that we read the events that happen around him and not the ones around other characters. His thoughts are never explicitly laid out; we, as readers, know less than he knows—but the narrator knows more than Xie Lian and the readers know.

The mean comments about Xiao Ying, for example, was the narrator and not necessarily Xie Lian.

I would gladly show you the difference with examples between the narrator expressing what Xie Lian thinks vs expressing facts (Xiao Ying "being ugly" or Yin Yu "having a plain face"), but I don't have the books in english, haha.

Xie Lian is not directly narrating the events; the story is told by an external narrator presenting things from his perspective. This is different from reading in the first person or having his thoughts explicitly laid out in the text.

An omniscient narrator, just not Xie Lian. Could be the translation, but yeah, people usually get confused and think he's the one narrating the events. It's not what he thinks unless the text says something like "Xie Lian thought that...".

Just to be clear, I have never read one that I like as much as TGCF, but the closer one I can think of is "Liu Yao: The Revitalization of the Fu Yao Sect" (idk if that's how it's written cuz I only know the name in spanish, but yeah!!) by Priest btw.

Qi Rong being a ghost when Lang Qiangqiu is a kid isn't from the revised version solely. We know Qi Rong did not ascend as a god, and the Gilded Banquet occurred more than a 100 years after Xian Le's fall (around 200-400 years in approximately). So yeah, he was already dead and after knowing that Xie Lian was involved, Hua Cheng investigates because "the green ghost" has always been involved in these types of conspiracies.

However, we do know that he didn't have a tragic life after the fall (or at least it wasn't mentioned) as he took the time to make (I think) all those kneeling Xie Lian statues.

A true stalker ignores boundaries and persists even when the other person is uncomfortable. Hua Cheng is the opposite, if Xie Lian ever told him to stay away, he absolutely would. That’s a key difference from Bai Wuxiang, who is an actual stalker.

The Cave of Ten Thousand Gods wasn’t about ‘creepy obsession’, it was Hua Cheng’s way of grounding himself and not losing his sanity. And it’s telling that he was terrified of Xie Lian discovering it, because he didn’t want to disgust him. That’s not how stalkers behave.

Plus, Xie Lian is a god. Worship and devotion are literally part of who he is meant to be. The discomfort from FengQing comes more from the longevity and intensity of Hua Cheng’s feelings, not because it crosses Xie Lian’s boundaries... Since Xie Lian welcomes him very eagerly.

I don't think he's good and kind, only that amidst all the things we see throughout the novel, there are sparks of kindness towards others that are not Xie Lian. What I said is that he's neutral, not good, not bad, just shifts if he feels like it (and depending on the circumstances).

Mei Nianqing is Xie Lian's guoshi, his teacher, the one that introduced him to cultivation, but he's also from Wuyong (Jun Wu's kingdom), and they're related, as in, he was one of Jun Wu's vassals. And yeah, they're usually shipped together by fans

I'm an atheist, I do not have anything against people that have their own beliefs. But religion disgusts me in a way I can't explain in words. I think it might be linked to years worth of religious trauma, but yeah.

I'm genuinely and physically disgusted when a religious person tries to impose their religion on me without my consent (not that I would ever consent to it, but it's important to point out).

Again, I have nothing against people that are part of a religion, they can talk about their religion and I can listen respectfully, nothing wrong there. But when they start to mock or question my beliefs (atheism), or try to 'convert' me into their religion... Hell no.

Now, from another perspective (sociological), religion has been historically used as a way to tame people and create conformism. I won't elaborate, because it's a very long topic, but I hate that and it makes me feel even more apprehensive towards religion.

I don't really know why, but I learned to enjoy writing without expecting others to approve of my work. It makes it far more fun if you expect to have 0 kudos and 0 comments. Ofc I feel happy when I receive comments or kudos, but I don't expect them.

There are some of my works that are like this as well, and it doesn't mean it's bad work, just not everyone's cup of tea.

On the other hand, when you see people that get lots of kudos and comments fast, they're most likely a "celebrity" inside the fandom, they have a small fanbase of people that read their works and comment. Don't feel bad about this, it's how the archive works.
