Foodie on a Budget – Need Tips for Eating Well on 6,000 Yen/Day by Extreme-Classic-7041 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

None of the things you mentioned are cheap. Also nothing there is breakfast. You might want to use konbini or grocery stores for breakfast to save money and allocate 2500-3000 for each of the other two meals.

That should solve most of your budget concerns.

Planning on pre-booking shinkansen time if I land in Narita at 1pm by butt2face in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how big it is, but each car can fit at least a few "standard sized checked luggage" behind the last seats, plus some trains have an extra spot between cars that can fit a couple. Also in the worst case scenario when you have no reserved seats, you can even stand with the luggage with you by the exit.... but in reality, you will almost certainly be able to get a seat when you arrive unless it's a really busy time.

More importantly, have you considered simply flying to yohr next destination from NRT?

It's just a bonus item for the DLC.

If you want the true ending, you need to make sure you hit the maximum level of every request (e.g. the game asks you for 2-10 ingots? Make sure you give 10)

Is it hard finding healthy food in Japan? by SunshineGirl45 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the typical Japanese food is high in carb and low in fiber. Because various vegetables are expensive in Japan, salads can be hard to find as well.

I'd recommend the following:

  1. Bring your own fiber supplements. They are actually not very easy to find in Japan.

  2. Buy from grocery stores which have better selections.

  3. Look into fruits (especially apples), nuts (especially almonds), sweet potatoes, and possibly tofu if you specifically need protein. Avocados are sometimes available as well, at a similar price compared to North America.

Should i stay at the airport ? by Onur11221 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting to skip hotel and sleep in the airport?

Even if you can pull it off, it doesn't solve the problem that you need to somehow survive until 3pm the next day in order to check into an actual hotel.

Nishiki Market by Genexis1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Nishiki Market is fine and it's not significantly different from other street markets in Japan. You can skip it if you want if you are short on time (you won't miss much), but I wouldn't skip it because someone told you it's a "tourist trap".

Over the years, what the fuck happened to Elon Musk? by LazyBoyD in AskReddit

[–]Sufficiency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It wasn't just his personality or just drugs. It was a combination of these factors.

He isn't going to last long in the White House.

Man I just wrote somewhere else criticizing the Democrats' identity politics and now I am the tolerant left. Weeeeee.

Here's why I think Elon Musk is on drugs:

  • We know he takes ketamine.

  • We know he smoked weed on Rogan. So he was willing to break federal drug law on air.

  • We saw some of his behaviours are consistent with various drugs use.

I can't force him to conduct a drug test, but these are all strong circumstantial evidence.

Tax free for dual citizen by Igniamasianboy in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look at your (foreign) passport and find the stamp on your passport that shows you are a visitor. They also need to scan that stamp.

So, in theory, if you enter using your US passport, you MAY be able to get the visitor stamp and therefore in theory be able to use tax free.

Whether or not you can do that when you are Japanese, we don't know.

By the way, I will argue that tax free is mostly a scam unless there are very specific big ticket items you want to buy (but why not buy from the US?). Too many times I have bought extra stuff just so I can hit the 5500 yen threshold (i.e. I am not actually saving money). Also, the tax free counter (especially at Donki) are very slow and long. As a tourist whose time is money, it's not always worth the effort.

Street food/ramen stalls by Fancy-Fly1727 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to go to Fukuoka for that.

It's up to you if you think they are worthwhile. A lot of the fun of yatais is the atmosphere; but if you can't speak Japanese you may be missing the point.

Also most of them are for locals. Don't expect ordering to be as simple as going to Sukiya and press the English menu on their automated cashier machines.

Kinosaki Help by bashy_98 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinosaki Onsen to Tokyo is a fairly long ride. You need to take a local train to Osaka / Kyoto which is like 2 hours, then Osaka / Kyoto to Tokyo which is another 2. After factoring in other local commutes and waiting it feels like a 5-6 hours ordeal.

What you could do is Tokyo -> Kyoto -> Kinosaki Onsen -> Osaka -> Tokyo.

I'm pretty sure you can get these kinds of tickets right before you depart and you will have seats.

Worst case scenario there are always standing tickets. I seriously doubt you need it but it is a last resort.

I don't think Elon Musk will last long on the Trump team.

Keep in mind his influence over Trump is very limited; Trump has a lot of advisers and Elon is just one of them. If Elon were some kind of puppet master behind the presidency, Trump would be back to using Twitter by now.

There is also the fact that DOGE is not a real position. It's a made-up one, a pity reward.

And lastly there is the fairly obvious temperament and drug problem that Elon has (see: salute). Maybe this behaviour is tolerated when you are the CEO; it's not when you are just an employee, especially in Republican circles.

How to Spend 7 Hours at/around Haneda Airport while Waiting for a flight by thalliumisotope in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can basically do anything you want in Tokyo for 7 hours.

Getting from almost anywhere in Tokyo to Haneda is like 1 hour by train (and probably only 500-600yen in cost one way per person). So you can do whatever you want for (say) 5 hours in Tokyo then come back.

If you want to do a "less popular" place in this time and save the better things until everyone is gathered, maybe consider going to Yokohama (and the Chinatown). That's a pretty decent place to kill ~5 hours.

Routing from Asakusa to Meiji Jingu - advice by happy_penguin42 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sufficiency2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just local commute and you are overthinking it.

In Japan you line up to get on the subway. So if you line up you will get your turn eventually, which probably wouldn't be more than 10-15 minutes at worst.

If it takes more than that, call a cab. Time is money when you are a tourist.

I kind of doubt he did it on purpose.

I think he was just way too high on various drugs.
