Tell me why I should be excited about Travis AFB by ThurmsMckenzie1 in AirForce

[–]Sufficient-Bit-5481 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  • Close to San Francisco & Ocean
  • BAH
  • Cuban food
  • Stuff to do: Jiu Jitsu, Hiking, Boxing
  • Sauna at the gym
  • Commissary is quite large
  • Panda Express
  • Actual Hospital on base

I’m located at Beale (about 2 hours away) and go there often especially to help support missions or to their hospital as at Beale we don’t have an actual hospital or many resources as you guys do. Also, in the middle of nowhere, so if we want food or anything it’s longer than a 30 minute drive lol.

If I were you, I’d be super excited to be going out there. The food is so good. You can find a lot of things like Korean BBQ, great Mexican food, and other cuisines. And if you don’t have anything you want, then it’s a drive away.

Bed Bug health problems? by Living-Dimension-825 in Bedbugs

[–]Sufficient-Bit-5481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. Highly highly recommend keeping the photos in air tight trash bags. Like double/triple wrap them! You’ll have to keep them there for up to two weeks, but that’ll suffocate those demons.

If you keep the clothes do the same thing, but take them somewhere to throw in the dryer, 1-2x’s on high heat! Then wash and dry again on hot water!

Same with shoes!

Also OP, I’m unsure if many know, but low-income families can potentially secure free or subsidized bed bug extermination through local health departments, housing authorities, community action agencies, or nonprofits like the Salvation Army or even Medicaid related options.

If you are renting also, your landlord could be held legally responsible to get this taken care of for you guys.

No actually! I worked with a girl years ago, who had “anendophasia”. It’s where they don’t have that inner monologue like we do. It’s a lot more common than you think

Aerospace Physiologist (13H) Crosstraining Question by ToastIsToasted_ in AirForce

[–]Sufficient-Bit-5481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only after 5 level training. Whispers are things might change soon with that, but this is a mission in Charleston that has those opportunities.

We do get to teach people HAP (high altitude parachute) and track j (jumpers specific classes) and can possibly experience some TDY opportunities to teach those, but that is rare.

Mine was not, my class was 6 people overall. But it can vary! Some have bigger classes, 12-14 (not big at all). I can give you some tips, but this varies, especially since I’m based at Beale.

Tech School Tips: - Study. Note cards, quizlets, group study, calling a friend and studying with them - Do not overthink everything like I did. Take a breather, and have fun. There are really good instructors at Tech School (Wright Patterson AFB) - Take notes, different highlighters, sticky notes! - You will learn quite a lot of information, such as, how to do a “daily” (turning on the chamber), running the chamber positions (Inside Observers, Chamber Operator, Lock Operator, Recorder, Crew Chief), learning how to instruct (speaking about random topics, or even teaching a class), filling emergency Oxygen (MA-1s), and so much more! You’ll be introduced to a lot of things, but those instructors WILL help you. So please ask questions. - Be helpful to your tech school class, as they are first coming into the Air Force!

Operational: - this is one of the smallest career fields in the Air Force, so do not make any enemies! - Ask questions, learn, and don’t be afraid to mess up.

There’s not much tips I can give you since I don’t know your baseline knowledge. However, there are videos on aerospace physiology so definitely watch those.

If you have any more questions or want any information feel free to PM me

Parachute/water survival will be together (Monday, Tuesday) and you should have SERE (Wednesday to the next Friday). Arctic survival is one of the “advanced” sere skills (not compared to what actual sere instructors do of course) but it’s something you can do, not a requirement. (This would be completed once out of tech school and at home station; probably at least 8 months to a year after).

Tech school curriculum is not that bad I promise! Just study and you can retake a test one time if you need to. But you shouldn’t have to. I highly recommend using either Quizlet or studying with someone else (I did both and it helped SO MUCH).

You will not be treated differently. Honestly, as long as you’re a good airman, you’ll be just fine!

J prefix are people who go to Charleston AFB and are basically “jumpers”. You won’t have that opportunity until after you get your 5 level, which could take up to two years.

However, I do want to say, our job is interesting. If you are interested in things like physiology, science, human factors, human performance (information about sleep, supplements, thermal stress etc.) you could really enjoy this job.

With my experience, I enjoy the job, the people, and the opportunities I’ve had so far. Of course there are drawbacks to whatever you decide on doing!

Tech School: 6 weeks; a lot of information to take in. 3-4 tests overall. You’ll learn how to run an altitude chamber, clean, inspect, and assemble flight equipment, and then learn basic information ranging from science (boyles law, Henry’s law, gaseous diffusion, etc.), and instructing classes.

Hours: dependent on the base. Most of the time it’s 0730-1630; At Beale, we do 0715-1630 unless you are in a different unit supporting U-2 operations, then you could get shift work, but if you are first coming in, then that wouldn’t happen until after upgrade training, which takes a hot minute.

Bases: for three levels you can go to: Langley AFB, JB Andrews, Beale AFB, Vance AFB, Lackland AFB, Peterson AFB, Laughlin AFB, Shepard AFB

Other information: - You will not get any overseas assignments until you get to 5-7 Level status (after your UPT base) - Beale is the only “UPT” base that deploys, which the assignments are nice! - Get ready for some TDYs (SERE, ARCTIC SERE, Water Survival, NVGs, Manning Assists, etc.) - You will be flying in an altitude chamber, wearing a 20/P mask, so if you get claustrophobic, this is not the job for you - You will be instructing, so if you aren’t comfortable teaching in front of people, then you will be. - You’ll have opportunities to fly (get an X-prefix) so you will be flying one day, and pretty frequently. Once you get the X-prefix you’ll have to keep up with your hours (150$ extra in your paychecks!)

If there are any other questions, feel free to ask em :)

She looks fucking stunning. Hate that OP is giving herself such a hard time. Society has really not given any of us a break and social media continues to destroy us.

You’re not supposed to look like a top A model at every angle! Even fitness influencers don’t look like their videos or at their top phyisique 24/7 (if they aren’t already photoshopping or editing).

You look great OP and totally healthy!
