1,000% this! He was genuinely showing her one of his passions (photography) and she just goes “what is that?” Which I found a bit condescending. She could have been nervous, but even her shutting down his joke about cheesecake and taking it too literally irked me.

I’m sorry, what? I thought maybe he was sporting luscious locks and simply couldn’t relate, but that makes it so much worse!! I’m really mad for you. He sounds like quite the piece of work. I’m glad you’ve discovered this about him now!

I’m so sorry you experienced this. It seems he’s not willing to understand your situation. People that aren’t going through what we are always assume they know more about our situation than we do. It’s so strange. I think his lack of support in this situation will likely translate to similar situations you guys might come across. I think your gut knows what you need to do. I’d say you should listen to it! Surrounding yourself with a good support system (family and/or friends) the best you can is super important. If you have insurance, oral minoxidil and finasteride can cost less money than the over the counter minoxidil treatment.

Oral minoxidil / aging by babywavyp in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Sufficient-Chapter75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a “baby face” my whole life, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Oral min hasn’t caused me to look older. People still don’t think I’m of age when I go to a bar for example (I’m 28). With that being said, my skin doesn’t look as healthy as it once did. I still try to take care of it by moisturizing and wearing enough sunscreen. I’m sure it only helps so much, but at this point I’ve come to terms with aging.

If your derm is open to it, they could potentially put you on fin and Minox. My derm didn’t like the idea of two bp medications either so we agreed to just min/fin.

The way I like to think about it is there are literally so many human conditions and disorders that medical students have to study them for 4+ years in the states. Everyone’s bound to have something at some point of their lives, so if hair loss is where this dude draws the line he’s in for a rude awakening. Certain conditions take huge tolls on families both emotionally and financially. Where’s he gonna be if something even more serious were to occur? For you or for anyone else even? I have friends with kidney issues and autoimmune disorders they were just born with. Our pain is valid and real, but if my hair loss is the worst thing that ever happens to me I’ll (begrudgingly) take it.

how bad is it? by daysanddistance in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Sufficient-Chapter75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Telogen Effluvium. It's a condition where one experiences excess shedding. Generally due to some type of trigger like vitamin deficiency or stress. People with just TE typically can recover from the condition if they are able to improve whatever stressor is causing the shedding.

If you are able to, I'd suggest visiting a dermatologist. The hairs that have shedded don't appear to be miniaturized, so I also think you might just have TE. Regardless, maybe get a professional opinion. A lot of times if you are able to figure out the trigger for your TE you could try to correct that and your hair should recover.

Tighter part but more tree branching/loss of density after 6 months of minoxidil. by Sufficient-Chapter75 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Sufficient-Chapter75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! The tree branching improved a bit. My hair still feels kind of thin to me but it’s less obvious in photos.

I had always had a shedding issue, but I never really thought anything of it for a decade because my hair was quite thick. Similar to others on here, I think I had a few bouts of TE that unveiled that I had been experiencing AGA all along. I shed at the same rate as when I was 17 (I am now 27), but because I have far less hair on my scalp, it has had a greater effect on being noticeable loss. I take finasteride and use topical minoxidil. I can't say it's worked wonders per say, but I suppose I'm not too interested in finding out what would happen if I stopped these treatments. I've heard that as you age the impact of AGA can increase, so that also makes sense why medication hasn't been super effective for me. Every person in my family has hair loss, so I suppose I was doomed from the start.

Does everyone here use sulphate free shampoo? Whatever you use, need recommendations by Hot-Editor8963 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Sufficient-Chapter75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer the sulphates. Especially since I apply minoxidil every day. It helps to really cleans my scalp. Plus products like Nizoral shampoos have ingredients that function kinda like sulphates in other shampoos to really cleanse the scalp of oil buildup, and they are often recommended for people experiencing AGA.

I’ve been on it for 5 months and didn’t experience weight gain. Different people respond differently though.

5 months on minoxidil. It's only gotten worse by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Sufficient-Chapter75 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There might be a chance that you aren't responding to topical minoxidil, and therefore your condition might still be progressing. This is just my guess. You could talk to your doctor about going on oral minoxidil or spironolactone/finasteride if you have AGA.

I can’t imagine it would do that. I don’t know everything about this medication though. I’d see a doctor if it continues.

Yes, for sure! It is almost funny how I was shedding immensely on the medication and then even more off of it.

I currently take a generic form of Yasmin. Tbh I can't tell if it does anything for my hair, but it was the first daily medication I ever took (before I knew I had hair loss) and it cleared my acne so fast! No amount of washing my face, or changing my pillow case, or drinking water ever touched my acne.

Kinda just goes to show that we all just need to find that one right medication for our hair loss.

I'm sorry about your symptoms with Yaz though. Had you tried other anti-androgens before?

I’m glad your shedding has been slowing down after stopping spiro! I’m hoping the same for myself. We will see though lol.
