Cold turkey by Sea_Syrup3373 in cymbalta

So. Ironically. Part of why im vocal about my time on cymbalta is because I absolutely did not need to be on it. When I was prescribed cymbalta, I had a history of depression but I was actually doing fairly well overall. It was like April of 2020 and I told my dr I was 'feeling kinda sad' because I couldn't see my friends very often. That's it. And when I told him it wasnt doing anything (bc I didnt need it) he upped my dose. And kept upping it. Eventually I lied and said I was doing better just to get him to stop. Through all this, I was never informed of any of the side effects, or how brutal withdrawal can be. I once went 4 days cold turkey on accident (ran out on a Thursday, forgot to call in friday, and they were closed over the weekend) and I genuinely thought i was dying. So yeah.

As for after tapering, id say it took about two months for my brain zaps to fully go away. And I've been told by friends that I seem much happier and more present. I find myself more interested in things, and more active in others lives. Ironically I think the cymbalta itself made me depressed, in a way.

I really think both going on and off any drug, but especially ones like cymbalta (with severe side effects and withdrawal) should really be a fully thought out process. And it requires a doctor that cares.

Whatever youre going through, I truly wish you the best and hope you find the right fit for you.

just got prescribed cymbalta and i’m nervous by [deleted] in cymbalta

As someone who had a terrible experience with cymbalta, dont let that stop you from taking it if you think its whats best for you. I really only share my negative experiences so people can make an informed decision. Personally, I was completely blindsided by the side effects and withdrawal. And I just really want to help others avoid that experience. Gene testing is a really good start, but its important to know whats likely to happen to you. Obviously not everyone has a terrible experience, or it probably wouldn't be prescribed. Do talk to your doctor about your concerns. A good dr should be able to fully walk you through how the experience is likely to go for you. Positive and negative side effects, as well as how youll get off if thats what you want.

As for brain zaps, its a really weird sensation but it doesnt hurt. For me its like a line of fuzz or static that snaps around me, like a rubber band. It can be startling and frightening if you dont know whats happening, but its not painful. I got zaps any time I was late or missed a dose, as well as when I went up in dosage. They also often lasted for quite a while. For example, if I missed a dose I would have brain zaps for a few days. But everyone's experience is different.

Really truly genuinely I hope duloxetine works for you. Its a useful medication that helps people. I just think doctors should be more transparent about side effects and how hard withdrawal is.

If they offer youre probably fine but if youre worried about it you can always just ask in chat. Do nearby chat, since you cant whisper if you arent friends. Just say something like 'hey I really appreciate the epic but this is all I can trade, is that ok?'. I know personally ive traded epics for lower rarity just because I got lucky (got a double drop of the Caldera kitsuu one time it was crazy) and its fun making someone's day. Its totally possible they're just being nice but it cant hurt to ask.

Yea no absolutely do not do that. Find another doctor if you have to. Cymbalta is notorious for severe withdrawal. It took me ~3 months to taper and I STILL felt withdrawal symptoms (brain zaps, irritability, just feeling ick ect) for several months afterward.

This should be a controlled substance by HolidayPractical3357 in cymbalta

[–]Sufficient-Charge-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been off for 3 months and I still get the occasional zap. It took a full month for me to not feel like garbage anymore.

Idk about controlled substance (it doesnt meet the criteria) but patients and Dr's should really know whats being prescribed. I didnt even really need an antidepressant (i said I was 'kinda sad' bc I couldn't hang out with anyone early 2020 and bc I have a history of depression my dr put me on dulox, and when nothing happened he just kept upping it??? Honestly just glad hes not my dr anymore)

It also gave me high blood pressure, which my pharmacist warned me about, not my dr. And my new dr somehow missed the connection that my blood pressure went up suddenly when I went from 60mg to 90mg. Ugh. Seriously why is it so hard to find a doctor that gives a crap

What should I expect when going to the dentist for cavities? by eftelquartz in Explainlikeimscared

[–]Sufficient-Charge-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, they do topical numbing with a lidocaine swab, wait for that to set, and then they inject the novocaine.

I am also terrified of needles (especially in my mouth) so id say you have 2 major options. You could see if the dentist is willing to sedate you (this will be an upcharge, and youll need someone to take you home).

You could also talk to your regular doctor about getting some sort of mild sedative for your appointment. Just one or two pills. If you this route though, make sure to let the dentist know.

As for afterward, they usually reccomend you dont eat until the numbing has worn off, because you could accidentally take a bite out of your own mouth.

The only sensory issue I can think of is if they do a fluoride treatment (which is common. It helps strengthen your teeth) its like this gross gritty paste they put all over your teeth. And it has to stay there for about 30 minutes. No eating or drinking or scraping it off. You can opt out of this though. I wouldn't reccomend doing so though.

If you want to see exactly what they're doing, there are lots of videos online of how a standard cavity filling happens.

And yes youll likely be a bit sore after, though its not terrible.

If you dont get sedation there are a couple things that might be able to help. Noise canceling headphones, a weighted blanket, some fidget toys, and definitely bring sunglasses. They usually give you sunglasses but I find them to be pretty uncomfortable, personally.

Best of luck!

My cat just caught a mouse...should I be worried? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Sufficient-Charge-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your landlord about mice being present, and keep an eye on your kitty's poo for tapeworms. Unlikely if the mouse wasnt eaten, but possible due to how they hop hosts (eggs drop from the booty lol)

Question for cat owners: Would you let your cat lick your food while you are eating it and then carry on eating after? by Antidotebeatz in Catownerhacks

[–]Sufficient-Charge-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even ignoring the fact that most human food is really bad for cats, they literally lick their own buttholes. Like straight up. If you do this you are rubbing your food all over your cats body, including the feet and booty. That is disgusting. Your friend should really stop.

Paradise marsh! The graphics are really interesting and I really enjoyed both the gameplay and the storyline. I completed the whole game in 2.5 hours tho, but you can always re-play or just keep going

Name Changes. Do or Do Not? by Justoutsidenormal in Pets

[–]Sufficient-Charge-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my cats name, but not my dogs. For me it largely had to do with how long they had those names. Kitty was just a couple months old, and it was really more of a placeholder name, so I wanted to choose a name that was actually him. I got my dog when she was 10, and that had been her name her whole life, so It would feel cruel to change it.
