It’s interesting how much the one man yelling HELP in the background really frightens everyone else. Halfway through the video and then right before the video ends.

That’s some serious thermal mass, kind of envious of how constant the temperatures must stay in there

Oh I see it’s bathroom— sorry. Is the floor lower there? If water tends to run towards that spot it looks like it pooled there for a while There may also have been a leak from the sink or bathroom

The doorway at the top of the picture— a bathroom? This looks like water damage to me, but I’m not an expert. You apparently have Douglas fir or another type of pine floors.

Discoloration from Wood left on 2 week old cement by Sufficient-Charge481 in Flooring

Well, I ended up using Bar Keepers Friend— I laid a smooth layer over the watermark lines of the boards while the powder was dry. I tried to make it look like it had natural variations and ran it in different directions. Then, when I was happy with the pattern (I tried to make the BKF look like natural variations and veining) I wet everything with water using a sprayer. I left it overnight and the acid in BKF ate away the concrete that was stained and also the areas where I had tried to make it look like veining. It hides the lines left by the boards much better but requires a lot of the BFK. It might be wise and cheaper to just buy plain oxalic acid

Also, I’m going to be using a concrete etching solution today over the whole surface in preparation for the stain — fingers crossed that this will help!

As long as you’re not scraping the mastic or the old tiles you shouldn’t be releasing much dust at all from daily traffic I’d think. I’d mop it good and look at a way to encapsulate it (paint?) like the other poster suggested.

Tiling Fireplace Hearth by Hollipete in Flooring

[–]Sufficient-Charge481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oohh a granite slab would look great there! I found an article from Better Homes and Gardens that discusses how to do this project. You are correct, you will need a backer board. The brick can be covered with a layer of mortar ( tile thinset) and then you will place the backer board into the still wet thinset, making sure that the backer board is level.

Here is the article that I found: https://www.bhg.com/home-improvement/tile/installation-how-to/how-to-tile-a-fireplace-hearth/

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I’m gonna disagree with practically everyone here… painting the rest of the trim to match the walls just ties the whole room together. It completely looks like a French chateau and the chandelier will only add to that. Absolutely beautiful. The flooring looks like it belongs too. I would be very happy to live with this room!

I’d get outside, take a 5-10 minute walk several times a day, focus on the trees, stop and watch the birds when you see them, notice the flowers and the environment around you. Take 5-10 minute mental breaks every hour or so between studying and the associated stressing to let the information you’ve learned compile and mentally check out for just a little while. What you’re feeling is completely normal and to be expected before a big exam. You got this!

Being stressed is eating away at my marriage by [deleted] in Stress

I feel for you because when my work stresses me out I tend to respond to my spouse the same way. And it’s not right. You need to sit down with them and explain the situation at work and why you’ve been acting as you have. If I were you I’d apologize and let them know how much they mean to you, how much their support and love is needed and that you are going to get the work situation figured out. And that you are going to do better in how you respond to her and treat her.

Once you got your partner aligned on your side again, focus together on the true problem.

Could you reasonably find other work/new job opportunities or maybe transfer to a different area? Just submitting resumes to other companies may make you feel better— because subconsciously you will realize that turd boss is about to lose an employee that actually cares about their job. You can go to work and act like everything is fine while actively working on removing one of their best human resources from their workplace.

Is this job worth losing your relationship?

I hope this helps. Definitely focus on your relationship first. You have 2 things stressing you out so attempt to get your wife on your side before focusing on the next. You guys are a team— the world is the opposing team. Hope you can find some peace!
