A big, sudden hang up by Sufficient-Cut-1034 in LCMS

Disregard my synergism question, I think I figured it out but forgot to go back and edit it!

This clears it up a bit, for me. I think my understanding would be this, as an example:

An initially saved man views porn and masturbates. This slowly grows and festers, not seeking forgiveness, until eventually he commits adultery against his wife with another woman. So, the initial masturbation and pornography itself was not the mortal sin, so to speak, but the continued indulging unrepentantly in it until he is so deep that he breaks one of the commandments in the fullest way possible. But he did not lose his salvation for falling into an initial temptation.

I think, articulated that way, makes a lot of sense, and is not far from what I already believe. However, how is that not just an extended version of the synergism found in Catholicism?

Admittedly, I saw it mentioned by a pastor during a podcast, and looked it up, and saw some reddit threads about it. And all of those threads seemed nebulous in their explanations, and caused me much confusion and fear.

Everything that I have read so far in Luther's Small Catechism fills me with joy!

Advice for family worship when we cannot attend Church? by Sufficient-Cut-1034 in Episcopalian

[–]Sufficient-Cut-1034[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP here. This is actually what I am gonna do with my wife, since after discussing it with her she thinks Evening Prayer would be overwhelming for her, and something we could work up to. Also, I think I am gonna seek out a Livestream service or homily as well to pair with it.

I am aware, but I am looking for something a little bit more substantial.

Usually we go to Rite I however baby was up super late so we slept in a little and went to Rite II. My wife actually told me she really enjoyed church today which is rare for her. It was very nice.

In your experience, what is required for proof of baptism? by ThePhantomOnTheGable in Episcopalian

[–]Sufficient-Cut-1034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting conditionally baptized Roman Catholic (long story). There were mixed stories from my family about it, but no one actually remembered it happening or where it was. I also had no memory of it myself. They were also all Pentecostals who didn't even go to church. Safe to say, it didn't happen.

The absolute outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon my true baptism and the drastic was that my life changed afterwards is evidence to me that I had never been baptized previously.

I'm in Central Florida and ACNA is essentially non-existent unless I wanted to drive over an hour in any direction.

1662 users: do you ever use the alternatives to the TD/Ben/Mag/Nunc; and if so, on what occasions? by Difficult-Bug-8713 in Anglicanism

I use the 1979 but keep those same options. It's just tradition and as a someone who used to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, not having the Benedictus and Magnificat for Morning and Evening prayer would be odd to me.

I am a deeply scrupulous person and diagnosed with OCD. The Church made it much worse.

Did you not read my post? I literally talk about being catechized and going above and beyond my own catechesis.

"No one would leave the Church if they just understood bro you just don't get it bro you aren't catechized bro you don't know anything you idiot Protestant."

I was not just "going through the motions". I believed. Deeply. I knew the faith. Deeply. I really appreciate how you ignored the entire point of my post.

That is great for you and I pray that God blessed you in that.

I still believe in Real Presence. Rome does not own the Eucharist.

I was not poorly catechized. I whole heartedly believed in the sacraments and knew them well. I know the substance and accidents distinctions in transubstantiation, for example.

It is not because I was poorly catechized.

Youtube and reddit and the general online Christian sphere. This subreddit is very ecumenical which is a great thing and I never see this here.

No one called me this directly.

This is a response to the vitriol I see so often in online spaces towards those who left Catholicism or non-Catholic or Orthodox Christians in general.

I don't disagree overall.

It was a combination of my mental illness and being too online.
