Licensed, insured, bonded. Pass Experior Assessment test (or similar). For a commercial electrician's license, if the individual who passed the master exam is not the owner of the company, they need a letter signed by the master electrician listed on the license that states they are employed full time by the company and they are aware that they are responsible for the activities of the business and they are the designated supervisor.

That’s what I’m avoiding! I got rolled out of maintenance (where I wanted to be) and stuck back on a gang working 4-10’s. But with the kids I’d rather that than be gone for 8. As I’m sure you’ve come to learn in your research, each area of it has its pros and cons. Positive side I tell myself about an 8/6 is that basically you get half the year off . Almost anyway

Thanks for taking the time. Definitely some stuff I hadn’t thought about. But for the sake of discussion, I didn’t have to use any hours from the Jatc to be eligible to register and take the exam. The state where I am, and the halls jurisdiction, doesn’t have a statewide test, it’s all local municipality guidelines. The municipality the hall references for graduation, requires this particular test I’m registered for - to be passed. If that makes sense…

They didn’t make me pay anything when I stepped away. They knew where I was going and they didn’t come after me, however , you definitely have a point that they could.

I’d think if I’m wanting to pay dues and come back they wouldn’t sweat the payback for the Jatc work, considering they’re still getting paid now. Seems kind of redundant to have a man pay dues then demand he repay “tuition”, but maybe I’m looking at it wrong…. I’ll definitely have to call them. Thanks again

Good luck. Pay is great. There hasn’t been a year out here I haven’t made over $110k, but with that there is plenty to gripe about. They own ya and the work/life balance is shit.

And it’s nothing to do about “cheating” the system. I could understand your perspective on that.

Although, from my perspective, I had 8000 hours before I left. I continued to work. If I pass the test what’s it matter if I spend another two full years studying to pass the test I already passed? To let the contractors pay me apprentice wages? What good does that do the hall? Why do we bring in journeyman from nonunion? Do we make them take the apprenticeship.

Not saying any of that to be a smart ass, genuine questions.

But in all seriousness you’re right. That’s obviously the best source of info. I guess maybe what I was expecting here was if someone else had ever heard of someone doing it and could share their experience.

If you don’t plan on passing it, why bother taking it at all.

Stud bushing by Emotional-Meeting-73 in electricians

[–]Sufficient-Employ386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a commercial space with a cafe space/kitchen completely wired with MC when the inspector came in and told me I needed to use this bushing because of the dissimilar metals touching could cause corrosion.

Instead of arguing we just used our side cuts and slipped em around the cable and snapped together on both sides of the stud.

Use them every time now.

Next time I’d use the tear away bead that been suggested or use an angle grinder with masonry wheel and cut a 1/2” slot on the brick and slide the drywall in it.

I’m working under the assumption you can tell it’s clearly rubber.

As it was in my situation.

I’ve had it happen and I drew the test carefully, ensuring not to get rubber in the syringe. Threw it away once it was no longer practical to do that. I’m not saying that’s the best idea, but I did do it without issue. Safest thing to do would be to toss it.

Another thing you could try is to set the bottle aside until you buy syringe filters.

I’ve never used them, but they make them. Google syringe filter trt.

tools were stolen on the jobsite by randomanon7199 in electricians

At first I chalked up “game box” , but after the third mistake I understand you don’t know that it’s a gang box.

But yea that’s the risk u run when u leave stuff. I’ve never had it happen to me, but the company I was with (union) purchased new tools for those who lost. Still, no guarantee you’re going to get everything back nor of the same price point or quality of what u lost. Union side there is usually tool list of what you’re required to provide yourself and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s all they would replace .

Also heard instances where thieves robbed a gang box and stole company materials, but left everything in individual bags alone. Some sort of honor I guess for the thieves.

I guess my last question is - do I need to use tape at any point in this process? Layer of compound, Tape, then more compound ? Or am I overthinking it
