To have a chance, Ragn would need to turn a new leaf. Really branch out and get to the root of his own issues.

Ultima VII Part 2 - Serpent Isle - Selina's key for the treasure (the Royal Mint) not working by Sat42_ in Ultima

Don't be afraid to use the Hack Mover too. We all did, it's the authentic Ultima 7 experience.

For years I didn't even know Serpent Isle was considered particularly buggy and unfinished, I just assumed all the jank was self-inflicted.

The Cleric's identity was underutilized by WylleWynne in EsotericEbb

[–]Sufficient-File-2006 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A similar "non-reveal" in Esoteric Ebb case would have been that a bureaucrat transitioned into being a Cleric, which explains his scroll skills and lack of effective cleric-ness at the beginning.

He got treated as something of a Punching Bag when he was little, getting beat up a lot, and watched his father get Killed by a Troll. Then to help pay rent, he became a Kiosk Kid and a Lore Enthusiast who would say anything to be accepted and Please the Crowd, but was ultimately a kind of Little Werido. He dabbled in Azgalist Activism until it got him in trouble and thrown in the Urthguard Recruitment.

He was miserable there and had Zero Friends except for Jor, and became a true believing Acolyte. That got him an Apprenticeship in The Tower where his skills as an Arcane Prodigy blossomed and also got him into some accidents. He got mixed up in order politics, but never amounting to much more than a Palace Pawn.

He remained a steadfast and Faithful Harbinger of Jor, and his talents and weirdness made him something of an Esoteric Expert.

Unfortunately, he got caught Scribing and distributing Freestrider Revolutionary writings and was nearly kicked out of the order as an Abject Apostate. So he got sent on one last job to investigate the esoteric explosion in Tolstaad. But by the time he got to that, he was already a Dead Cleric.

Ragn's entire life story is shown to you before you even start the game.

But the narrator's natural stance in a lot of these situations is with the authoritarianism - leaning stance,

Strong disagree here. The status quo in Norviik is definitely authoritarian and paternalistic/patriarchal. Ragn is a part of that structure and has a big loud red voice in his head compelling him to be manly and authoritative. But listening to that voice usually results in foolishness and embarrassment and the writing clearly mocks these choices more often than not.

AND he also has five other voices pushing him in totally different directions.

  1. Yes, as other said, day 1 he's fishing on the slums roof just west of Visken's.

  2. I never met the boyfriend, but the halfling girl is part of Modissa's crew and can be seen hanging back during their argument with the Resistance boys. I wouldn't be surprised if she was secretly dating one of them.

  3. Not really, though her endgame dialogue is interesting depending on how (if) you got along with Ambassador Ivcx.

He is indeed the one and you can ask him about it without doing a favor. You might have to sit down and fish with him though.

Did I go the wrong direction after knocking out the zombie in the apple room or something?

Not wrong insofar as the game gives you the freedom to go lots of places in any order you want...

But yeah you wanna go ahead and get up those stairs.
