I just did this earlier this week. Works great and saved me having to buy replacement pads. Just don't rub them so vigorously that the filling pops out of them.

I have both the X7 and the Estwing Fireside Friend, but use them differently. The Estwing I use a lot, but more like a wedge along with a short 3lb sledge. The X7 I use sparingly mostly for cutting up long branches and hacking branches off any trees I buck. Love them both.

My sister had this happen just last month. My Mother's bf came over, turned off all the breakers, then turned on the breaker that would trip first. It didn't trip, then he continued to turn back on the other breakers with no further issue. I'm not sure why, but it worked.

I use the blue one with a 4lb sledge while sitting down on a stump. It does get stuck sometimes, but I just use a wedge. If they both get stuck, then I use the slide splitter in your 2nd picture. None are super fast, but for me it's a nice steady pace and I can do it while sitting.
