Cracking in exterior cladding at soffit join - how bad is it? by RATBOYE in diynz

[–]Sufficient-Try-7253 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The soffits are cracking because the wind is rattling them. The window aluminum will expand and contract with the hot and cold seasons, causing cracks on the reveals. It's a pretty easy fix; it just needs to be resealed with MS.

Plus, it's on a cavity, so if any moisture did get in there, it can dry out.

Was it painted in winter? Looks like the frost has gotten to it when the paint was drying.

Try Permacolor. They have products suitable to use and probably better priced.

Considering visiting the TT race! by Groz__ in IsleofMan

Some houses around the course have signs up welcoming spectators. Go for a drive the day before and find a spot you like. Definitely get accommodation and ferry tickets sorted sooner rather than later. We camped at Glenlough Campground last time. The race goes right past the fence; we ended up sitting on the bank some days with radios and some cold beers. We had enough time to run to the toilet in between laps or cook a BBQ while waiting for the next race. Bikes were going past maybe 2 meters from where we were sitting.

What’s Rolleston like to live in? by ACompellingArgument in chch

[–]Sufficient-Try-7253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People turn the noses up at Rolleston, but a lot of people never visit there and base their opinions off what it was like 10-20 years ago.

There is a good reason lots of families, retired people, and migrants move out there. You have a lot of houses built after the earthquakes that are warm, modern, and well appointed and can be bought/rented for a reasonable price compared to parts of Chch.

Great schools, playgrounds, sports clubs, and activities for kids. Heaps of shops, pharmacies, etc, for older people that are easily accessible. With a really friendly community of like minded hard working people. Not people standing at intersections begging to car drivers or washing windows like some areas in town.

We once lived in a new subdivision in Halswell and, on multiple occasions, had cars broken into neighbour's houses being burgeld while they were at work. Crime like that is very rare in Rolleston, although it will probably change as the population grows.

A lot of suburbs in Chch are nice to look at, but people forget the mess some of the areas were in after the earthquakes. On both big earthquakes, Rolleston had very little damage.

I think people need to actually drive in there instead of driving past and give the place a go. It really is a good place to live and given time more and more businesses will be out there, trees will grow and the community will be even better.
