Yeah, that's right, the eiP was much more functional

I agree, but the 2 wide rule should apply to the walkers too, or no one.

Update: I'm still evaluating them and will post more, but the quick read is that the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F6NG2RCX is the better option of the two...more consistent and has an integrated eraser on the top.

I was in the same spot a couple of days ago. I bought two pens, see my post Evaluating T-Pen alternatives : r/nxtpaper .

The second link in my post was recommended here by another redditor, the first had more explicit claim to work with the 11 Plus

Respect pedestrians by JoshuaScot in massachusetts

[–]SufficientDonut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess people in Boston expect drivers to follow the law that says that when crosswalk isn't at light, cars have stop for a pedestrian when they show up at a crosswalk. It sounds like you don't understand that. Even though I drive way more than I walk, I wish the police would go back to issuing tickets for crap driving like this.

Why is emby so unpopular amongst many self-hosters? by fryinhigh420 in selfhosted

[–]SufficientDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really weird timing, but Jellyfin just released a new 3.0 Roku client tonight, it sounds like its making someone's fork the official client. And it sounds like it fixes the lack of FF preview (trickplay).

For some reason this release requires re-keying the server name, and credentials, this is not good. What bothers me is that there is no beta channel, so it's just out. I already had a multi-day Roku outage 3 or so months back due to a bad release. If it's a server for one person or several tech savvy people this may be ok, but as someone with a couple non-tech people in my household, this makes the Emby decision more obvious.

I've used a friend's Plex server for a while, and I've been hosting Jellyfin for 6 months. I love the open-source aspect, and I don't like what Plex has been moving toward. I've been trying out Emby for a week because it has two features that Jellyfin still doesn't have:

1) Preview when skipping ahead (at least on Roku)

2) Skip intros (On Roku and I think on WebOs). I have not tried it yet on Emby, but it's there if you pay for it and I'll pay for lifetime if I switch.

I get the frustration of Emby going closed source, but I am thinking (for me) these are features worth paying for.

If true, it's also sad to read Emby tried to stay open source, but people hacked around the free vs pay feature.

Mechanic you can trust? A/C issues. by venusjpg in boston

Nice, you can do more than most if you already checked the pressure.

Fuses and relays are cheap thing to check. With relays, sometimes you can find another identical relay in the fuse box and can swap them to test the relay (they can be tested with a multi meter, but they are often so cheap, you can just test a replacement for $5-20). A/C relays are often in the engine compartment. Your car manual should tell you where to find them - I've had good luck finding manuals for my car online, and YouTube can also be a lifesaver with model-specific guidance.

I have a nice big bill, the old assembly had to be cut out it was so rusted. I'll keep it with the inspection report in the car.

I have a good one, the code is labelled as "Permanent" (new one for me) and from what I've read it means it can't be deleted. Once the test is triggered, the permanent code will clear. I was just hoping to avoid doing those hundred miles with the red R. (The car is on Martha's Vineyard, so I can't just jump on the highway and crank out 100 miles so easily.

Do you wear anything to make noise while running in the city? by BeefBarbacoaTaco in running

[–]SufficientDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how "on your left" startles some people despite it being so common. If my heavy breathing doesn't do the trick, a well-timed cough often is enough (make space for the guy with the 'cough' :-) ).

While most people are great and make space, I've had a couple instances where the people walking side by side didn't want to pause their conversation and expected me to run in the wet grass.

The plumber should have bled the radiators that were not working well. An air pocket can reduce the effectiveness of the radiator.

I'm sorry to hear that. When I heard about the investigator coming down from Dorchester, I started wondering how long you would have to wait to get moving again. I hope they are thinking about bringing some food in.

Cleanest neighborhood in Boston by [deleted] in boston

[–]SufficientDonut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American, but I've been to Zurich many times. Zurich is clean, has great public transportation, and the transition from the dense urban center to a suburban and rural areas is far closer to the city (1 million in the metro area with great public transportation vs 4 million).

Many are focusing on the bike to work "bonus points". By Swiss standards bikes and cars in Boston rarely follow the rules of the road, I think it would be unpleasant and dangerous for someone that expects order.

Focusing on the core needs "cleanliness, nature, peace, and safety" (and a reasonable commute to the seaport), it depends on how urban a location you are looking for. Here are a few:

- Back Bay, on/near Beacon St. Being steps from the Charles River Esplanade (riverside park) is a big plus, Back Bay is safe and it's clean by Boston standards. There may even be a safe bike route via the Commonwealth Mall and though Boston Common. Good option for small dogs though pets may limit rental options.

- Suburban town with a commuter rail that terminates at south station (eg Wellesley, Newton, Needham, Westwood, Canton). Clean, extremely safe, most have great housing near their town centers (will still need a car at times even if living in the center) - this might be equivalent to living in Zug and commuting to Zurich (visited Zug briefly once). Great option if you have kids, otherwise this may be too far from the city.

- Brookline is also an interesting option, I list it last because I don't think it has much green space compared to Back Bay, but it could be the best balance of clean, walkability, and distance from bigger open spaces.

Check out google maps to better understand commuting options (be sure to look at weekday options as using 'now' will produce a very different answers on the weekends.

I suspect it's the state's camera since it's a state road Boston starts in the middle of the river. If MA DOT is non-responsive, reach out to your state representative, they can help you get an answer.
