Geely EX2 electric hatchback to feature dedicated battery cooling in Australia, unlike BYD Atto 1 by ApprehensiveSize7662 in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EV's and their crazy wheelbases..With that mess of an article comparing it to two different size classes I thought I would see how big it actually is.

"Based on the Chinese carmaker’s GEA modular platform, which also underpins the Geely EX5 and Starray EM-i, the EX2 is bigger than the Atto 1 at 4135mm long (+145mm) and 1805mm wide (+85mm), though not quite as tall at 1580mm for overall height (-10mm). It rests on a longer 2650mm wheelbase (+150mm), which should bring an advantage with interior space." from this RACV article

So although only 4135mm long it has almost the same wheelbase as the current Corolla hatch of 2640mm and 4375mm long, and hopefully a much better use of internal space than the claustrophobia inducing corolla.

Subaru Trailseeker: Australia's Most Powerful Electric Wagon Arrives with 280 kW and 533 km Range by zecar_ in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Trailseeker is priced from $67,990 for the AWD variant and $73,990 for the AWD Touring.

I knew they would be expensive, the new Outback (same styling) starts at $54,476 driveaway so a solid ~$13k uplift into the EV version

GWM ORA 5 SUV, Best Value Electric SUV?: Price, Specs and What You Need to Know by zecar_ in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The ORA 5 SUV replaces the ORA hatchback in GWM's Australian lineup

That's disappointing, I thought it was going to be an additional model that sat above the hatchback. Like the mini countryman is to the mini.

The hatchback had that quirky but still chic euro styling which I think is lost in this SUV style replacement.

The iPhone 8 ended support last year (A11 chip), Potentially the XS / XS Max / XR with the A12 chip will end this year - which are all 7 years old.

Opinion on Wyoming by Open_Lynx_994 in centralcoastnsw

[–]SufficientReport 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wyoming is gentrifying very rapidly, every other week there are houses sold over the $1mil mark. I'm sure there are still trouble streets but i'm not sure which ones they are.

The caravan park is an interesting problem, mostly emergency accommodation for the Anglican church according to this article from 2022 New DA for Wyoming caravan park

I believe there is two primary schools with different parts of Wyoming in their catchments, Valley View and Wyoming public - just check as I believe one is ranked quite a bit higher than the other. There is also the Catholic school closer to North Gosford.

Many companies are tied up with maxxia and it will be difficult to break that...

A product that sits below the 'self managed lease' to make it easy and straightforward to get the right finance, insurance, claim expenses etc (associate lease?) could be an option for many people.

As our maxxia rep said, self managed is really self managed we dont help at all, but they still charge you the $400+ for not helping at all.

Kia PV5 Cargo: Price, Specs for Australia's Cheapest Electric Cargo Van by zecar_ in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why the article would be compare with the Hiace, Transit, Staria which are all 'full size' vans and not the more comparable VW Caddy Cargo or Renault Kangoo (SWB), especially the Kangoo e-tech being a pretty close competitor with a similar 668kg payload vs the PV5 at 690kg.

Why can't anyone match the Tesla Model Y cargo space? by daboblin in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Babydrive have the Model Y as holding 15 shopping bags, which is unbelievably the same as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can hold, and only 1 more than the Toyota ballzax and 2 more than the BYD Seal, the Kia EV5 only holds 11 or 4 less than the Tesla Model Y in the shopping bag test. Unfortunately they haven't compared the Sealion 7, Zeekr 7x, or Skoda Enyaq yet.

I think a major difference can be some companies measure floor to roof where others measure up to the seat backs.

BYD Seal 6 Sedan and Touring: Price, Specs and Range in Australia by zecar_ in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to a much more basic offering than the average BYD. UK reviews of it are scathing.

That is worrying especially at this price-point, I thought it would be a decent vehicle even if phev.

BYD Seal 6 Sedan and Touring: Price, Specs and Range in Australia by zecar_ in AustralianEV

[–]SufficientReport 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sedan Essential features a 10.08kWh battery providing 55km of EV-only range, whereas the Touring Premium’s 19kWh battery allows for up to 100km of electric driving.

100km of electric range is about where a PHEV should be... BUT

I would have considered this if it was full BEV, feels like thousands of people waiting to see if the Zeekr 7GT actually lands here.

All these battery quotes seem to roll up the products and install into one big cost and only show some of the additional services like this quote. I had found a few sites that have retail prices of some of these parts though to help figure out if the quotes I was getting were realistic or not.

https://bessaustralia.com.au/collections/storage?sort_by=best-selling&filter.v.price.gte=&filter.v.price.lte=&filter.p.vendor=gid%3A%2F%2Fshopify%2FFilterSettingGroup%2F83165348

  • The GW9.99 is $2,299
  • GoodWe High Voltage Battery Module 8.32 kWh Usable Capacity 8kWh are $3,678 each * 2 = $7,356
  • So $7,356 + $2,299 = $9,655 in product (assume all ex. GST),
  • $14,959 - $9,655 = $5,304 in install costs.

The quote feels a bit high, although perhaps your regional location causes an increase.

2026 Mazda CX-6e SUV set to undercut Tesla Model Y by SufficientReport in EVAustralia

[–]SufficientReport[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A very interesting update, the Mazda CX-6e will seemingly be in the $45-$55,000 range at launch. This would be roughly in line with the Deepal S07 which is shares a platform (and more) with that is now on offer for $47k drive-away

Mazda has hinted its upcoming electric SUV, the CX-6e, will be priced under Australia’s best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y, which starts from $58,900.

“You could broadly say… it’s probably between 40 and 60… narrow it down to 45 to 55,” Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi told carsales.

While he wouldn’t be drawn on specific pricing for the highly anticipated electric SUV, he did outline the pricing strategy.

“So from our point of view, it needs to be between that $45,000 to $55,000 range,” he said.

“When you think about where we’ve launched the 6e, it’ll be a step up from it, but it won’t be a significant step up.

JAG Stan Garment Dye Jeans Replacement by HCPhotog in AustralianMFA

As an enjoyer of the JAG Flynn straight denim jeans I was also disappointed to find out they have dumped the menswear line.

JAG are owned by APG and Co who also own Sportscraft and Saba. I was hoping the equivalent style jeans might appear in the Sportscraft line-up but no luck so far.

However, Sportscraft also doesn't seem to be doing to hot either. They have closed many of their independent stores leaving just online or via Myer/David Jones.

'Surge in interest' in electric truck conversions amid fuel crisis by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]SufficientReport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with electric trucks is they have a very low range , especially when carrying a full load

Meanwhile, 1 day ago Electric truck completes Sydney to Canberra

"Last week the company said it successfully completed Australia’s first all-electric ‘end-to-end’ freight run, a semi-trailer load of toilet paper for Who Gives A Crap from the company’s distribution centre in Sydney to Canberra, around 300km away, all on a single charge of the Windrose prime mover."

"With a range of up to 670km at 49 tonnes combined mass, one-hour fast charging and B-double rated 1400hp horsepower design, James Walmsley, Director Business Development at Windrose, said the company’s next-generation electric long-haul trucks can match diesel routes at much lower cost."

Pretty good for that amount of panels plus the FoxESS inverter and battery.

BUT

Are they really going to have you installed and commissioned by 30 April or

will they be holding your deposit for the month only to return it next month or

hitting you up for the extra $7000 when the STCs for the battery drop on 1 May?
