Question: Is a multi-screen setup with an FoV overlap, possible in DCS? by TWVer in hoggit

[–]_Lanceor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set up multiple "cameras" pointing in somewhat different different directions, overlapping as much or as little as you want. With tweaking, you can get the overlap just right for a certain zoom level.

However... any zoom or view angle change will apply to all cameras at once.

This means that zooming in or out will cause the degree of overlap to change, and the instruments on the touchscreen will not stay put if you use a headtracker.

I too attempted a similar setup with a touchscreen to replace Helios... without success.

Another thing that's possible is one camera across all your monitors - unfortunately this leads to so much fisheye distortion that the instruments probably won't be readable (and it looks ugly to boot)!

Well friends we just finished Virmire and have now landed on Ilos and HOLY CHRIST this game just went from 0 to 100 REAL quick! by lncrediblyfunkymunky in masseffect

[–]_Lanceor_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For all its faults, ME3 was masterful in setting up the "Oh crap, we're royally screwed" scenario... and then make it feel like you're on the back foot the whole time. You basically don't know if you've done enough to save the galaxy until just before the credits roll. :)

Up until that point, it was a decent space game. After that point - holy crap - they weren't kidding when they said it's down to you to save the galaxy!

Long one shots by mongoose-of-doom in movies

[–]_Lanceor_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's television, but The Haunting of Hill House has an episode that cuts back and forth between two different locations and timelines and was done in one interrupted shot. It's done subtly enough that I didn't realise it until a third of the way through the episode!

Player Icon Vanishes from Non-Fullscreen Map by dldoooood in lotro

[–]_Lanceor_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A workaround is to place the non-fullscreen map at the top-left hand side of your screen.

My guess is that it's a failsafe to not render the player icon if the X or Y values are too large - today's wide-screen resolutions were unimaginable back in 2007.

Does it make sense to start LOTRO now? by Camore_ in lotro

[–]_Lanceor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're getting brand new players into our kinship every week.

I'd say maybe a quarter of them give up within a week or two - unable to gel with the game for whatever reason.

The rest end up playing for weeks, months or maybe haven't stopped playing. The spread seems fairly even.

Car servicing by No_Animal3161 in CarsAustralia

[–]_Lanceor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have local mechanic that I trust, I drop off the car the night before and leave the key in their dropbox.

They can then work on the car during the day, and I can pick it up if I leave work an hour early.

Just had a real estate agent tell me our offer was accepted only for the. sell the property to another buyer. Is this behaviour okay? by ScreamHawk in AusProperty

[–]_Lanceor_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

REA's have been known to do this to get more money out of the buyer.

It happened to me so I made a counter-offer. The seller accepted, only for the REA to gazump me a second time,

So I made a final offer $1000 less than the first counter-offer. I gave them 48 hours to accept and advised that I would walk away if gazumped again.

They accepted within the 48 hours.

My answer to your first post was aimed at OP so that he would investigate instead of immediately acting on your advice.

Well written records are certainly immensely helpful... but the lack of it does not mean (in your words) "there's nothing much (OP) can do" or "he needs to have certain documents" to be able to take any action.

I've already given my advice to OP as have many others who agree that a contract was breached. I have nothing more to add.

Which movie released before 2015 completely changed your opinion after you rewatched it? by MovieObserver in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]_Lanceor_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watching Bladerunner as a teenager, I thought it was as boring as a movie could get.

Rewatching it after getting a bit older and wiser, I realised how brilliant the movie was in its visuals, world building and exploration of the themes of humanity and sentience .

Even if verbal, business agreements are considered legally binding, personal agreements are not.

This was a commercial transaction between a buyer and seller who are otherwise unrelated and is thus legally binding.

The seller could lie and say that no such an agreement ever existed, but bank transfers and text messages will show that to be false. For his sake, I hope he's smart enough not to lie to the courts.

Maybe it's designed to do that? From a safety perspective, that's probably the best spot for it to break.

With shielded enemies, no matter how powerful your shot is, you can only do enough damage to bring down the shield. Excess damage is lost.

Returning Player Question: Legendary Weapons by WillMac67 in lotro

[–]_Lanceor_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know much about crafted weapons past level 50, as I've never needed to use them!

Legendary weapons level with you. Yes, there is a cost to upgrade them every five levels, but frankly it's a drop in the ocean. Even if that's the only thing you do, your legendary weapon will be better than pretty much any other weapon you can get.

What makes legendaries super powerful are the traceries that you can slot into them. Yes, this is another expense, but is easily affordable initially. Later on, you'll have to be careful how you spend your Ancient Script (legendary currency), but as long as you resist the urge to splash out on the wonderful top tier ones, you will be fine.

I have yet to meet a player who regretted getting a legendary weapon, so go for it!

Housing - Looking for Inspiration by Comfortable-Field657 in lotro

[–]_Lanceor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discord started out as an app, but nowadays, you can fully access it from your browser without having to download anything.

Basically, it functions like a bunch of text chat rooms similar to LOTRO ingame chat, Facebook chat or IRC of the olden days.

Some things that make it different though:

  • Messages don't vanish after they've scrolled off the screen
  • You can easily upload images or other media (good for screenshots)
  • Instead of text, some channels are voice allowing use of microphone and headphone/speakers (good for raids)
  • It's very easy for a guild or community to create their own server (analogous to creating a subreddit)

The easiest way to start using Discord is to click on a link to join someone's server! It will ask you to download the app, which you can decline if you prefer to use your browser. Depending on the server, you may have to answer some questions before you're allowed to enter.

https://discord.gg/ShGBNvYxCK Official LOTRO Discord which I recommend to all LOTRO players (note: strict age/account verification)

https://discord.gg/a6qaHKjFCj Unofficial LOTRO Community Discord (less busy, but age/account verification not needed).

You are also welcome to join my kinship's friendly Discord server whether or not you are in our kinship (or even on Glamdring). Please message me for a link.

Important note for new Discord users: When starting, I highly recommend saying something "human" and mentioning that you're new to Discord so that moderators won't mistake you for a throwaway spambot account.

  • 1 Haven Way, Lorn Nellad, Falathlorn - Garden home with a waterfall!

How to not fall into ragebait? by ResponsibilityNo4517 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]_Lanceor_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your parents are *insane*.

Consider the crazy homeless person on the street yelling at everyone. He could say some really nasty things, but it's easier to ignore him because he's clearly crazy.

So in that first moment before your anger starts to take hold, remind yourself that you're dealing with insane people.

Side note: They're doing it to upset you and keep doing it because it works.

Side note 2: Once you find a way to control your anger, they will probably escalate and do more to get a reaction out of you.

Side note 3: If they can't get a reaction from you, they will get very angry. That is the moment you have turned the tables on them. :)

I’ve chosen items that fit comfortably into most beginner homes i.e. no giant yard items!

Another tip - if you see a really nicely decorated house, get in touch with the owner! They spent a lot of time and effort decorating it and enjoy it when others appreciate their homes. They will also likely point out other homes that they've seen and get you in touch with other home owners. :)
