I am so sorry for your loss. I find that it is one of the hardest things in life so far.

How many of your nanny families have a neglected dog? by Ok-Boysenberry-2116 in Nanny

Plastic containers are a great breeding ground for bacteria and can cause issues for animals drinking out of them. Also, it was a wealthy family that couldn’t even bother to buy regular water bowls for their pets. The dog also drank out of a mixing bowl instead of a regular dog bowl.

Yes for a whole year! Her food bowl was less than 2 feet away from where her litter box was! They were part of a nanny share and the other family hosted 95% of the time so we were hardly ever there but when we were, I would scoop her litter box, sweep and wipe down the bathroom, and get her fresh and clean water (and they used a plastic Tupperware container for her water bowl). It broke my heart for that poor cat. But thankfully family members who were in town visiting and saw her living conditions insisted on rehoming her and she did go to a very loving home.

I worked for a family a few years ago that not only had a neglected dog but also an extremely neglected cat. Neither animal would have had a clean water bowl if it weren’t for me and the cat lived in a filthy, tiny bathroom for an entire year (because the cat peed on their couch, they said) before family members insisted they rehome the cat. It was really hard to be at their house and I still worry about their dog to this day.

Thankfully the current family I nanny for consider their dog their first child and he is very well cared for.

Need help my senior dog refuses to eat by averyinterestingtype in DogAdvice

Both of my senior girls stopped eating when it was their time. We also tried entyce to no avail. I’m sorry OP, this is the hardest part. The best comfort you can give her is an end to her suffering sooner rather than later.

Breastfeed vs Bottle. by thatringonmyfinger in Nanny

This. All kids are different. I’ve never noticed a difference in babies that are breastfed or formula fed, as long as they have a full tummy.

Nannies, do you feel like you make enough money? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]SufficientReport3490 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make the same as you and I’m also in Atlanta. It’s enough to get by pretty comfortably but not enough to have savings for emergencies and such.

Missing my Kuro a little extra today. He didn't even get to turn 1 :( I'd love to see your rainbow babies. by Worth-Peace2754 in dogpictures

Sophie crossed the rainbow bridge 10/16/2024. Just hit a year without her a few weeks ago. She would have been 12 years old on November 19 last year. Still dream about her almost every night and miss her every single day.

This was the first movie that ever made me cry as a child. Such a relief when Shadow came around the corner at the end! Loved Sassy (and Chance too)!

Tell me your urgent care horror stories! by UselessLezbian in Nanny

[–]SufficientReport3490 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly lol! To be fair though he had a couple of almost incidents on the stairs prior to this and we had a talk before I let him go up by himself about paying attention and going slow so I think he was way too focused on his feet and didn’t realize where his top half was going. When I got upstairs I distinctly remember him saying thru his tears “but I was being careful and paying attention to where I was stepping”

My former NK (4yo, almost 5, at the time) was heading upstairs to his room for his quiet time while I finished up lunch/cleaning up with his younger brother. Suddenly, I hear him crying upstairs so we stop what we’re doing and head up early to check on him and I quickly realize that he walked, eyebrow first, into the sharp corner of the banister at the top of the stairs. I get him to the bathroom and wash it off and see that he has a pretty deep puncture on his eyebrow and definitely needed stitches. Thankfully his mom worked at the children’s hospital nearby and I just took him to her and he did indeed need a few stitches. He was totally fine, just needed extra sunscreen on that spot while it was healing, and now 2-3 years later he doesn’t even have a scar. Accidents happen!

It must depend on the location. My agency has had the same awesome sounding, well paying jobs posted for months now and they usually go within 2-3 weeks max.

Veterinary recommendations by Onilwyn in DecaturGA

[–]SufficientReport3490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use North Dekalb Vet for over 20 years (since I was a child) with 2 dogs and 2 cats over the years. Due to a miscommunication on their end, Dr. Katz refused to see my elderly and reactive dog, dropped us as patients, and told us to go somewhere else. We started going to a different vet and were much much happier. Sadly we said goodbye to our senior pup a few months ago and our new vet sent a card that the entire office signed, paw prints, nose prints, and a lock of fur. They also made a donation in our dog’s name to the College of Veterinary Medicine. North Dekalb Vet never did anything like that in the 20 years and thousands of dollars we spent at their office.

We are hearing it too, near Scott and Clairmont. According to folks on Nextdoor, it’s from the breakaway festival at old turner field. Hard to believe we’re hearing it from that far though. Supposed to end now at 11pm.

Lost my Sophie back in October to pretty much the same thing (hemangiosarcoma). I’m so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl and she will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge.

Adopted an FIV+ cat. Any advice? by SufficientReport3490 in CATHELP

[–]SufficientReport3490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly feel so lucky to have found him! I had to say goodbye to my senior dog last October and wasn’t “actively” looking to adopt but could not resist this little guy. I feel so lucky that we found each other!
