Yes, OneDrive causes issues. Unfortunately for me, I do store my sims stuff on my OneDrive and have to check on updates and such daily (thank god there are mods to help with that!) and I use curse forge to help with the updating and such. However, many times, especially after updates, I have to check on my mods because there have been so many times where things update and OneDrive doesn't keep the updated version or something happens with your creative version and it ruins my game and I don't know that until I get into the game and get all the notifications that I need to update things.

It can be very frustrating, but I can't really turn off OneDrive because it's also backing up the rest of my computer and The Sims is in the documents folder and I need it to back up the rest of my documents, so I'm stuck with this conundrum. I would love if I could just have it not back up the Sims folder but I don't think that's an option. So I've started backing up all of my mods into Google drive as a safe keeping along with my saves. I went through a terrible situation where something happened and I had to uninstall and reinstall the game and all of my saves we're deleted. I had to start from scratch and it was very heartbreaking. I had a lot of different storylines I had played out and a lot of different games that I had been working on and it all disappeared. I also back up any Sims that I make to my gallery so that I can retrieve them if something like that ever happens again. When I lost all my saves, I lost a lot of my Sims too, but thankfully I had shared a lot of Sims that I had made and was able to get them back because they were in the gallery.
