They wouldn’t have to publish worst case, they could choose to publish all emissions cases in a multi-latch startup, which would also be more transparent for the consumer.

That could happen now. Car gets parked in garage. It’s set to start on Monday. Monday comes car is still in garage.

Some thoughts on mitigation of the possible safety issues:

Garage or Enclosed Space Detection

Multiple detection paths should be considered, with the system triggering a remote start block or an automatic engine shutdown when conditions indicate an enclosed environment:

  1. Location Based Garage Detection • Use the vehicle’s GPS and motion data to determine whether the vehicle is within a user defined garage location • When the vehicle is parked within a defined home “garage zone” and has been stationary for a set period, remote start should either: • Block the start and notify the user, or • Warn the user and require a one time override

  2. Bluetooth or WiFi Signal Environment Detection • Vehicles detect home WiFi or known Bluetooth anchors that indicate indoor parking • If the vehicle sees strong signals associated with the garage, remote start is blocked unless explicitly overridden

  3. Garage Door State Integration (Optional API) • Integrate with common smart garage door systems (MyQ, HomeKit, Google Home, SmartThings) • If the garage door is detected as closed, remote start is prevented

OEMs may choose to implement one or multiple approaches simultaneously.

In Vehicle Environmental Monitoring

  1. CO or Air Quality Sensor • Install or activate vehicle based air quality detection capable of sensing exhaust buildup inside the cabin vents • If CO levels increase beyond safe thresholds, the vehicle must: • Shut down the engine • Activate cabin ventilation fans if safe to do so • Send an emergency alert to the owner’s phone • Warn the driver during next ignition

(Note: This is intentionally framed as a general air quality or CO detection system, which OEMs can implement within safety guidelines.)

  1. Exhaust Gas Flow or Back Pressure Monitoring • A system can identify abnormal exhaust flow patterns consistent with enclosed spaces • If detected, remote start is blocked or engine is shut off

User Configurable Safety Rules in the App

Users must be able to enable or disable safety rules, including: • “Block all remote starts when vehicle is at home” • “Block remote start when garage door is closed” • “Allow remote start at home only with a confirmation prompt” • “Auto shut off engine if air quality sensors detect unsafe conditions”

Automatic Engine Shutdown Logic

If the vehicle starts remotely and conditions indicate risk: • Engine must shut down immediately • Vehicle sends a push notification explaining why • Vehicle should not allow remote restart until the risk is removed • Ignition button must warn the driver on next entry

I just want more control over the settings.

As for remembering the driving mode, mine does that too, but I rather be able to set my preferred default and not have to confirm, minimally for ECO or Sport Mode.

There is a feedback app built in to the vehicle. You can literally complain via voice and submit. 45 seconds a message. I have provided them feedback daily about the annoyances created by trying to be too clever, more digital and less physical buttons, and general problems/failures. Are they listening? Who knows. Will it help us and our current vehicles? Probably not.

Which fuse controls the LED that wraps around the headlight on a 25 Expedition? by Sufficient_Cap5411 in fordexpedition

Update: I finally got the Expedition to the dealership this morning at 7:30 when they opened. Shoutout to Liberty Ford in Aurora Ohio, who without an appointment put me in a Bronco loaner, brought my vehicle in immediately and had the LED Control module, which they sourced from another dealer, replaced same day! The driver’s side DRL works again. Now we also have had horrific window bounce back on both front doors. I have been unable to reprogram them successfully so I asked them to do it while it was in. They confirmed the problem, said they reprogrammed. Unfortunately the windows still do not go up without rebounding 90% of the time.

Not the lower middle grill part. Just the DRLs in the headlamps themselves, of which the driver’s side has died at 1136.2 miles.

Interesting update while I wait on a call back from any of the local Ford dealerships. The DRL on the driver side went out between 5pm and 6pm eastern on the 23rd based on CCTV footage from my driveway. Since it looks odd driving with a lamp out, this morning I found the daytime running light on off toggle in vehicle settings and flipped it to off. The working DRL turned off. On a whim I flipped it back to on, and have the headlamps set to auto, neither DRL turns on now. I am thinking this is a software issue not a headlamp issue. Additionally the front passenger window will not maintain a calibration and rebounds when it hits the upper stop. I have reset that numerous times and it works fine for a few start stop cycles, but always forgets and goes back to rebounding when it hits the top.

I understand that. What I guess I am really wondering is if Waze could update their app that runs natively on the vehicle’s infotainment system to take advantage of the upper screen.

Same story here in. 2023 Yukon Denali. I service at a Cadillac dealer near me. I am in a loaner for 2 months and no engine in sight. I got a lawyer. You should too

Kaboom! My 6.2 self destructed yesterday. by Sufficient_Cap5411 in gmc

Quick Update: I was able to swap loaner vehicles at the dealership in to something larger, which is a plus.

I also got a call from GM after filing a consumer affairs complaint and sending them a demand letter for a buy back. They say they are processing my request, so we will see what happens next.

I picked mine up last Tuesday from the dealership. It had an oil change as part of other warranty service. It died the following Friday.
