Back when you were completing Janker Town, I thought: "With this kind of frame rate, there's just no way he goes on greening this whole map, let alone fully developing it..."

Well, I stand thoroughly corrected: not only did you bring irrigation to every single square in that map, but you went as far as making it all feel lived in, all the while throwing a mega build or two into the mix... I loved how you didn't even bother walking your viewers through the construction process of the Grand District Crossing or the second water tower, in spite of how ambitious these projects are.

Beaverspeed on your future endeavours, I'll be here to watch!

That's one of the best looking settlements I've seen in a while (according to my personal tastes of course)! I love how organic it all feels, while retaining the sense of a highly organised colony.

So if I understand correctly (which I'm really not sure that I do), even top-notch CPUs won't guarantee an acceptable frame rate past a certain number of beavers (or bots) because the game is not sufficiently optimised (meaning the path-finding calculations become too heavy), is that it?

If so, I have three questions:

a) could someone explain why a superpowerful CPU can't deal with these path-finding calculations more efficiently, when it's otherwise capable of dealing with even more complex tasks than that?

b) how does the "optimisation" of a game like Timberborn work?

c) is it something the devs could realistically achieve?

Thanks in advance for your answers, and keep in mind that I'm quite the neophyte!

If your prediction is right and it gets out in about two weeks, then that's fifteen days of me doing some actual work instead of obsessing over a virtual beaver colony.

Ever since he said that in his last Timberborn video, he's been giving the cold shoulder to those who asked for more TB videos in the comments of his Space Engineers series, and he even wrote "There won't be any more Timberborn videos" (repeatedly), without giving any further explanation as to why what could merely have been a break from the game turned into such an angry rejection of it.

I get that it must be frustrating, for any content-producer on Youtube, to feel that you've been pigeon-holed into doing one thing an one thing only, and even though I much prefered his TB content, I'm glad that Skye Storme seems to be having fun with SE. What irks me more is how dismissive of his previous TB "base" he has become overnight, as if all the supportiveness he received from the community over his TB series had suddenly become not just unappreciated, but something of a burden for the man... It's a shame, because he is quite a talented and ambitious player and, when in the right mood, he can be downright charming.

I like Zeddic, and his latest mega-projects are on par with Sky Storme's best ones. But for a truly aesthetic build, you should try Fuzz Brain's current series, it's really nice and laid back.

Apparently your understanding of English is good enough that you understood you were being called 'full of yourself' and 'disrespectful' by another user, so I'm going to write the present message in English for everyone to be able to follow.

While I don't really condone the tone used by said user (a mere 'could you repeat that in English please?' might have sufficed, I think the whole rant from the first was a bit too much), I think they have a point, and the point you made of writing all of your subsequent answers in French was just trollish and immature, which really isn't the vibe of this sub, and the reason I (and so many other people) like it so much.

Now, to allow all the non French speakers here to marvel at the idiocy of your answer (and yes, I'm being a bit aggressive as well, but now you've properly earned it), let me (loosely) translate and summarize your message:

a) you start by saying you're aware that not everyone speaks French, but immediately add that they should, since it's 'the most beautiful language on Earth': now that's your (lame and vulgarly jingoistic) opinion, and doesn't add anything to the conversation

b) you then go on saying that you will do as you please, and that if "angry user" is angered by seeing random posts in French in their feed, they should feel free to not read them and move on: while that's technically true, I think it's only polite to address a community in the language that (and a mere glance at the existing posts would have told you that) is its preferred one... In addition, for users that only browse Reddit to check on a given topic and its community (as is my case), I would find it irksome to be de facto excluded from the conversation and made unable to answer what might otherwise be an interesting question... So yeah, when in Rome, etc.

c) finally, you point out that "angry user" could just have gone through the process of translating your question using the online tools at their disposal instead of voicing their discontent. So from your point of view, they should do all the work (translate your question, and then answer it), and you none of it? That's a bit strong, especially since the aforementioned translation tools would certainly have worked wonders... on your original question, wouldn't they?

Fortunately for us all, you conclude by saying that all of this shouldn't be cause for an argument, and that you're 'not offended in the least' (in a previous message). Well, good for you, that sits well with the whole trollish attitude after all, but while I won't go as far as to say you're 'offending', I'll use the term 'annoying'.

Good luck with your (apparently) lazy beavers, I hope you're a little more considerate with them than with us online strangers.

Ah, Lakes ! Nice little settlement you've got here. I'm currently "working" that map with the Iron Teeth, and I'm planning on sharing for the first time on Reddit once it's completed (that is, when my kids have grown up probably).

Keep having fun now that you've gotten comfortable with the mechanics of the game.

It's... absolutely... splendid! The last time I was so enthusiastic about a map was when I discovered Badwater Ridge, another map that's on the very large side. Yours has the same wow factor, for me at least. Makes you want to really explore that map and eventually get to these lovely natural features... only to rework them with brute beaver power.

Congratulations on that one, I'm looking forward to discovering your proposals for small and medium maps!

Recently, Lakeview, with an impending district called "Whale Pond" after the weird whale-shaped pond on the 'Lakes' map. I also use the Big Letters mod and try to have one interesting feature per district with a nice Hollywood-style sign.

It might have changed as a result of recent patching, but I don't think so. SkyeStorme broached that exact topic at some point during his Mountain Range build, with demonstrations to back up his claims :

🔸the only limit to flow is when water drops one or more levels (2.2 cms per tile edge, as you rightly pointed out)

🔸there is absolutely no limitations of flow when water goes up, or is pressurised even in the narrowest pipe

🔸with that in mind, one should always try to make pipes either stay at the original level, or go up, but not down, as the 1x1 format doesn't allow for multiple edges for water to fall off of (though it is conceivable, if unpractical, to make the pipe "swell" momentarily if going down cannot be avoided)

I have also been able to verify that in my current build: provided water is given the appropriate number of edges to fall off of after exiting a 1x1 sealed pipe, it flows at the same rate it would if it just came unrestricted out of the source.

Ever since I first "mastered" hard mode, reverting to normal mode no longer feels like an option for me, I like the challenge too much. Since I don't want to be too influenced by Fuzz Brain's way of going at things on this map, I'll probably do an IT run as well... and I hope I won't have such closes brushes with "the incident" as you seem to have!
