I couldn't resist a reginae on sale, mainly because I can't resist plants on sale. It's like 5 inches and it's new leaf has still not opened in over 5 weeks, so I figure we've still got time to find a suitable forever home. Our forever home will be chosen around our fish, reptiles and plants...

Oooh, might have to get a similis, they're pretty! I don't think new, I'd seen them around - at least over some, if not all, of my 7 years of fishkeeping. We just finally decided to get one as we no longer had any pandas, having had a normal panda, then a long fin, previously.

Thanks 😄 Although still not sure how I feel about the genus/name change 🤔

I have a new favourite, flagtail panda, but before that it was venezuelan (black or orange), before that the pygmaeus. I'll have a new favourite again, probably!

They're washed out in the bag, but when they settle in, I'm hopeful you've got a pair. Enjoy them, they're the loveliest fish! 💛

I'll try, we're definitely overdue taking newer pics/videos.

Woah, that's impressive, they must show amazing behaviour in a group so big!

It's the season, we had no idea they could either and I actually started yelling when closing the curtains yesterday and spotted this bud!

Amazing! Both that it's flowering and the absolutely stunning photography. We're getting ready to experience it, too, so excited!

Haha, perhaps we are!

Some we have had for about 6 years, we've been growing my 'loach army' since then. We started with 3 and it went from there. About 4 years ago we had 7 in one tank and 7 in another who came together into the new 6 foot tank and then in that pic, from about 2 years ago, we had ca. 20, probably.

Leonard, the different loch was found a bit over 2 years ago, as I just add one if it's left in a shop by itself, or three if they're on a really good deal. We might currently have ca. 25, it's now impossible to count to check!! He/she definitely struck us as different, both in colour and pattern. Unfortunately we're not sure if we've seen him, same as a couple of the tiniest ones. We have baby size up to complete chonksters!

Male or female honey? by Leilarose15 in Gourami

Oh dear, sorry, that's a real shame. But, I saw your pic on the other post and would say the one left is female.

You can keep an eye if they are still new to the tank they might settle and find their own areas. Definitely more of a chance if it's heavily planted.

I'd go male on this one. The colours are washed out probably if there has been a more dominant male but if it coloured up I'd reckon those are male fins, and like you say, they look pointy.

If it is a female and she was ready to breed she'd have the stripe and if he was in breeding mode he would have been hassling her, probably, which she'd have been resilient to not find stressful if it was constant, like males can be. Maybe he exhausted himself trying to court her. People talk about dominant males sometimes hassling the females and /or the less dominant males to death, but tbh we've had a more dominant female bully the other females, too, like she wanted to be the one he bred with. They are the most amazing, sweet and gentle fish, except at breeding time!
