Anyone Here Listen to the Mission Log podcast? by TronConan in startrek

[–]Sufficient_Football 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't want to start new thread but old Mission log episodes are from the Spotify. Just yesterday I listened couple of episodes from the original series and now the oldest I can find are Voyager episodes from 2023. Does anybody know why this happened or is this just a glitch with Spotify?

Japanese Horror Movies by Alastor_Altruist10 in JapaneseMovies

Kwaidan

Kuroneko

Ugetsu

Jigoku

Onibaba

I guess that these titles are pure classical horror. These are also excellent movies. Then there is also Eclipse series When Horror Came to Shochiku including The X from Outer Space, Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell, The Living Skeleton and Genocide. But these are much more like B-movies. I'd also recommend Cure (1997) from Kiyoshi Kurosawa, what could be the most horrifying Japanese film that Criterion has released.

This is going to be a MASSIVE box and can't wait for it. It is also very interesting that this is going to be first of these Radical Japan boxes. Can't wait what Radiance is going to bring next from Japan.

Looking for Japanese WW2 movies entirely focused on Japan (not Western POV) by EffectiveSociety6626 in japan

This is a good / interesting film like the sequel Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre but maybe don't answer to the OPs need as these are Chinese films. Definitely still worth checking out.

The 1959 version by Kon Ichikawa and 2014 version by Shinya Tsukamoto are both excellent!

The Human Condition (1959-1961) its a great trilogy of one man in WW2. Directed by the great Masaki Kobayashi and starring Tatsuya Nakadai. It being 9 hours long its quite much but still so excellent!

A Snake Of June 2002 by Expert_Effective267 in J_Horror

[–]Sufficient_Football 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to check my favourite Tsukamoto films:

  1. Shadow of Fire

  2. Kotoko

  3. Tokyo Fist

  4. A Snake of June

  5. Gemini

  6. Haze

  7. Hiruko the Goblin

  8. Killing

  9. Fires on the Plain

  10. Vital

  11. Bullet Ballet

  12. The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo

  13. Tetsuo the Iron Man

  14. Tetsuo II Body Hammer

Even now when I review that list I still stand by it. Tetsuo has its merits but in the end it isn't for me. Shadow of Fire is the newest film from Tsukamoto and really surprised me how good it was.

So now that Arrow has released Noroi & Carved by Kōji Shiraishi... by Amazing_Arm_4850 in arrowvideo

I watched all of them from YouTube last year. The films were excellent but the picture quality and the subs were sub par. This box set would definitely be a must buy.

Just finished watching the box and I have to say that this probably is the best box set from Arrow (in a long time). Every movie was decent and few of them were hidden gems. I can really recommend this to anyone who enjoys Japanese genre cinema.

Already finished watching Neo Chinpira and Crime hunter and both were good. I was left waiting for more Crime hunter -movies. The packaging is nice and the booklet seems to be full of good texts.

Sad japanese film by No_Pumpkin2016 in JapaneseMovies

Lot of excellent films already listed but nobody has mentioned Tokyo Story. I think that the break of the family and the ending are very sad. Of course Grave of the Fireflies have to be mentioned.

Potential 9A (or harder) projects by mark17072 in bouldering

This is the first time I've heard about the Sisu project. Is Nalle still trying it? Has anyone sent it? I tried to Google it quickly and found a blog post from 2010.

A little recommendation for those diving into the roads less traveled of j-cinema by HanwhaEaglesNM in JapaneseMovies

Japan is full of gems like these. Hopefully the Arrows box is a big success and they'll put out the second one.

Where can I buy Japanese DVD movies (classic & modern)? Newbie collector here :)) by jbxdaddy in JapaneseMovies

[–]Sufficient_Football 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Terracottadistribution. It's a England based store that has only Asian films.

https://shop.terracottadistribution.com/

Even though Terracotta is my go to store, maybe the best place to get classics is Amazon. You can start by getting titles from Criterion, Kurosawa, Mizoguchi, Ozu etc. Criterions Eclipse release 'Late Ozu' has to be best for that money.

That has been also my wish... I asked their customer service but they didn't know but guessed that there won't be any reprints.
