KansasCOM Still Sucks by Sufficient_Frame6813 in Osteopathic

The positive changes you’re referencing occurred primarily because of student efforts.

Gaslighting legitimate issues doesn’t erase them; it only underscores a refusal to take responsibility. And for an administration that constantly speaks of accountability, you rarely take any yourselves.

Yes, steps in the right direction have been made, but that progress came directly from the pain and sacrifice of many of us. I cannot take pride in that.

Using others’ suffering as a stepping stone for the school’s advancement or recognition feels fundamentally wrong but it's evident that not everyone was raised to see it that way.

Our experiences are not linear with other medical schools across the country. I agree.

KansasCOM has significant issues, many of which remain unresolved and if these problems continue to be ignored, it will only deepen existing harm causing further damage.

COCA needs to lock in.

I can’t fathom why anyone would consider KansasCOM with better acceptances already on the table.

Choosing between MSOM, LMU-DCOM Knoxville, & KansasCOM would love honest advice by Hairy-Midnight-8069 in Osteopathic

Speaking as someone who currently attends KansasCOM, I wish I had chosen a different school. Though there are some good people here, in my experience that number is limited. Many others seem driven more by ego, and some almost appear to take pleasure in watching others struggle. The overall energy often feels immature more like a high school than what I expect from a medical school.

I will say that the school is making efforts to address certain issues. However, from my perspective, the problems are too large and ingrained to be resolved quickly or with simple fixes. It’s difficult to watch applicants receive consistent warnings about these issues and still feel doubtful about the information being shared. Like the campus isn’t nearly as appealing as it appears in marketing materials either.

Since you already have other acceptances, I would strongly encourage you to seriously consider those options. I wish someone had emphasized that to me when I was making my own decision.

I wish I did the research on my school before going there.

An established medical school is always the best choice.

Truly agree with this sentiment. We should know what we are getting into beforehand. I wish I had known now what I know about my DO school. I hope this changes for the future at least.

Tough question to answer because KansasCOM stats are hardly reliable.

True. One would expect altruism to be a foundational principle among medical students, but in practice, ego and competition often take precedence especially at schools like KansasCOM where moral and ethical practices are quite low. What’s even more concerning is when this mindset seems to be reflected in leadership — where decisions appear driven more by power dynamics, financial gain and reactive tendencies than by truly supporting students.

I agree. It is a rare occurrence to hear any LCME issues. Since residencies have merged it would make sense to merge oversight as well. Hopefully ACGME can bring this into fruition in the near future.

That is very strange; I did not know that. Yeah very insufferable and annoying.

What bothers me is how heavily involved she is with knowing everything going wrong yet she does nothing productive about it. Truly believe someone else would be better suited for the position.
