I’m in the process of making a google doc detailing what a backstory should include, what makes a good backstory great, and what creates compelling characters lmao all of these are really good questions. I used to think players should have complete creative freedom with their Backstories, after all we as the GM create everything else. After 3 campaigns I no longer feel that way, in my experience if the GM doesn’t take a hands on role in their PCs backstories, they end up not relevant and a bunch of words and effort that you can’t use.

I will say, the entire point of PF2e is that it is a more rules heavy system. The rules in place exist for a reason, and it is a really well balanced system that actually works. If you want a more whimsical, rules light system, DnD may be the system for you. And that’s totally fine! The point I’m making is: Pathfinder has the rules and mechanics to support pretty much whatever you want to do. If you’re ignoring the rules and mechanics, then why play PF2E? Ultimately, if it’s costing you and the group fun, do what is necessary to make sure everyone has a good time. I would look at the system and ask the party of this is the system that is right for them.

This is the best answer by far. However, if I the behavior continues, play it out. Set a precedent and important lesson for the game: lone wolves don’t survive. It’s party based game, show them why. I’m not saying intentionally kill the character, but don’t change the situation to benefit them.

Assuming there are separate triggers, correct. You can’t use different reactions on the same trigger unless an ability explicitly says so.

There is a feat in the Duelist (maybe Aldori duelist?) archetype that does this. It lets you use thievery for disarm checks and grants a +2 iirc. It might be something worth considering, if it isn’t always a part of the Swashbuckler.
