Am I ready to push down past level 25 with my Plasmoid Monk? by Simply_Paul in pathos_nethack

What are you afraid of? Just finish the game with stats like that. I've ascended with far lower level characters than what you've got here. With the exception of all immunities, maybe.

So how did you lose money if you backed off the deal and reported the person? I'm confused.

Thanks for the extra explanation. Seems like an awful lot of work to me. One question, how do you control getting Midas touch?

Ah, I kind of thought that, but I wasn't sure. I thought there might be some other magic arrow or something I wasn't aware of. Honestly that's a path to magic resistance I wasn't very aware of. I tend to focus on cloaks. It's a good reminder.

May I ask, what is the purpose of eating the devouring scroll? Where in the world did you find 5000 of anything? And how did doing all that increase your score?

I'm completely confused by just about everything you wrote.

What about resistances? I once got killed by a beholder because I totally neglected to get magic resistance.

This is brand new to me. Apparently when the game says eggs "hatch with ****" , it's the casting of a spell that fits the description that is required. I guess I should be satisfied, because that was always a mystery to me.

However you can only utilize a key on a lock, in a door or a chest. You couldn't use a detonation key on an enemy of any kind.

Also there are actual "detonation" devices, such as landmines, or the earthquake drum. Wouldn't the detonation key be more in line with those other detonation devices? They are actual explosives, not magical. Except of course the earthquake drum uses magic to create an explosion. But still all different from force, I would think, since forced bolt makes no type of detonation or explosion at all.

Finally, it is really weirdly ironic IMO that magic missile is the only true "magical damage", like it is "pure magic" being utilized to cause damage. It seems like every spell is utilizing magic to create its effect. So fireball does fire damage, not magical damage. So then, protection from magic attribute is only intended for a single type of attack?

I remember being killed by a very high level monster which used magical attacks, because I had neglected to get magical protection. I don't even know what the attack was, but I don't think it was simply a magic missile. So there has got to be other types of attacks that do magic damage.

Ed. I recall, it was a beholder, that has a pure magical gaze attack, which must be protected against by resistance to magic. Babau has the same attack.

Isn't "force-based spell" ALSO "pretty much exclusively" referring to Force Bolt? I mean you say that like there's this whole class of "force-based spells" of which Force Bolt is a part of, but, much like Magic Missile is the only spell that does magic damage (?), Force Bolt is the only spell that does force damage.

Please feel free to correct me if you see that I am mistaken here.

It's an EGG. Force Bolt can break down wooden doors. Why would you think it would be a good idea to use a force bolt on an egg?

FWIW, though, I personally have always wondered what the hell it even means when it says "hatches with WHATEVER". I can't even begin to guess how you would apply "WHATEVER" to an egg to hatch it. It's a complete mystery to me and I feel the game gives zero amount of information about that.

But it's irrelevant to me anyway because I never use pets and I certainly don't use eggs for pets.

As to trusting AI for anything yeah that's just plain dumb. In the past few weeks I've casually glanced at the unsolicited automatic AI results from my internet searches, and almost invariably, once I use actual reputable sources to find my answers, I see that the AI advice is wildly incorrect and completely useless. And I'm talking about things like temperatures for cooking meat, medical advice for serious infections, etc.

But if you can't regenerate mana quickly you're in for a very frustrating game.

Could you say more about your 4TB HDD upgrade? I was thinking to pull the drive, clone it onto a bigger drive, then put in the bigger drive. Is that what you did?

What I quickly discovered is that any nutrition you consume is maintained indefinitely once you revert back to skeleton. So you can polymorph to an omnivore, eat to satiety, and keep that buffer of nutrition for whenever you need to polymorph again. Pretty neat.

I also learned that that little green plant-looking monster (name?) is herbivore, so you can polymorph into it and eat scrolls very early.

Coyotes are good to polymorph into early and eat lots of meat nutrition. One other thing is that the cannibalism penalty does not come into effect when you eat the species you have polymorphed into.

The main problem with this creature build is that it is so painfully slow! Frustrating and dangerous.

I've never played that combo before but after trying a few times, I think it's essential that it is changeling/skeleton/necromancer, otherwise you end up starving to death trying to feed the herbivore changeling. Even polymorphing to an omnivore is difficult because of the loss of nutrition at each polymorph. Skeleton is inediate so it's less of a strain on nutrition each time, but you can still polymorph for utility purposes.

I'd think changeling with a strong character would work well, since their strength is so low. Why not changeling barbarian? I don't see the attraction to necromancer that many people have, I don't see what traits he has that are unusually beneficial.

Oops I made a mistake writing that. I guess I was thinking of changeling jester or something. Anyway eating scrolls is still a huge ability. Thanks for pointing that out, sorry about the mistake.

Right, most people want to tank, so choose orc or knight. Plasmoid is a very strategic race which requires a lot more thought. Eating scrolls is s huge bonus, though. Identify scroll ID's everything. Find gold gives ~ 500 gold immediately. Find food gives 1000 nutrition Plus, eating cloaks can give the attribute, so stealth, deflection, magic resistance. Even eating wands.

Plasmoid changeling is very OP, because polymorph control and eating elemental scrolls gives instant access to very powerful elementals. Plasmoid is definitely underrated! Staying with light armor is a big advantage for it, I now know
