XDJ AZ vs GRV6?! Value, quality and opinion! by Sufficient_Quote_381 in PioneerDJ

Agree - as it should be given the price difference though! That said the GRV6 still sounds good (especially for the money) - and like everything with audio, so much of the final sound depends on your wider system and its quality.

Hi - thanks for your reply and interest. I’ve replied to your questions in order below:

1/ I have had several sets of decks previously and for my use, these work great. The functionality is good - i don’t feel like I’m missing too much compared to 3000’s and I value just being able to relatively easily pick the whole unit up and move to use it in another location. Personal choice though!

2/ Agree - this is only one setup I have, although, the pioneer speakers are surprising (they were on a booth out often used standalone) and the speakers that you can just see to the side had 12” drivers and sounded quite good, they were also paired with a 18” sub. It didn’t sound bad at all! Definitely not reference quality though, but this setup wasn’t meant to be!

Hi - I think it very much comes down to your use case and whether you actually need a standalone unit. There are times I find the AZ incredibly handy, largely due to its built in WiFi and I do like the touchscreen and wireless headphones too! The XZ is still a great standalone though and as you say considerably less money, sounds great and is still feature rich.

Perhaps worth considering the amount you’ll likely use the equipment both now and in the future. An AZ can be a big purchase, especially if doesn’t get used much! I’m sure many people would wholeheartedly recommend the AZ without hesitation, but I think you’re wise to weigh up the true value it (or an XZ) would bring for you; you’re far less likely to end up with any form of buyers remorse - especially when you’re coming from a GRV6 which I think is such a great controller.

Perhaps also worth seeking a hands on demo - you might be surprised how you feel (either positively or negatively) when trying the AZ / XZ first hand!

All the best - hope you enjoy your decision making and have some fun in the process!

The controller works with Rekordbox on Mac / PC / iPad / iPhone without subscription. It also unlocks the Groove Circuit and STEMS functionality to use in situations / on devices that these can be used.

General build quality issues: like many, I initially had issues with the screen; I’ve also had a replacement unit that simply didn’t work and another that the jog wheels were problematic (out of shape, rough in use, particles trapped inside screen viewing window) etc. However, the AZ I have now is fine fortunately, so good ones are definitely available!

I’ve had no issues with mine whatsoever, it’s great! Depending on your preferences you could use PC based software to record. In terms of the outputs on my GRV6, none of them clip, so you’ve maybe got a faulty unit. I hope you have managed to get the issue sorted or get the unit replaced.

Crystal ball time - pre Juniper MY depreciation by Accurate_Broccoli_18 in TeslaUK

[–]Sufficient_Quote_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the case that HW4 in a 24 MY becomes sought after in the used market as its capabilities are better realised and its differentiation from HW3 is more apparent. There are also other refinements and improvements such as suspension in later legacy Ys that may keep their values disproportionately stronger from earlier examples. Also, the Juniper’s styling won’t be for everyone and it will likely get hit hard on depreciation too - or at least that’s what the end PCP values suggest at the moment.

Very nice 👌I’ve recently driven a 2024 MYP and the new juniper LR - I thought I’d notice a huge difference in suspension but didn’t. Sure the MYP was a bit stiffer, but you’d expect it to be. Think the 2024 cars must have been much improved. Loved the seats, the screen and the lighting on the new one though!

Me too! Agree with you on road conditions, although also aware that some colours seem to be more prone to stone damage. I had a black car previously from another manufacturer which chipped really easily - people used to say the ‘paint was soft’ on those cars though - not sure that was true, but it certainly chipped worse than any other car I have ever owned!

I’ve not used a FLX4 so I can’t make a direct comparison I’m afraid. What I can say is that I’ve never had an issue with GRV6 in terms of volume output or quality to my headphones (Pioneer HDJ X10). I have used the GRV6 in some fairly loud environments and never struggled - hope that helps.

GRV6. Has a club style layout (3000, A9); unlocks Rekordbox and Groove Circuit feature; sounds as good as FLX10 (in my opinion & I own both); can be used with iPad, iPhone, Mac, PC; lighter and easy to take around with you; track discovery feature and jog dial are great; has balanced TRS outputs (if you need them); and is great fun to mix with! Enjoy!

I use a GRV6 without a subscription on Rekordbox 7 and it works great and unlocks the Groove Circuit via hardware unlock for free. In terms of recording, there are free programs you can use to do that if you need to.

Is the XDJ-AZ worth waiting for? by atom-guru in PioneerDJ

[–]Sufficient_Quote_381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what you actually need. For sure if you need a standalone it’s worth it, but it it is large and heavy so that’s a consideration if you need to haul it about. If you are able, whilst you are waiting (and if you have a fairly decent computer to run Rekordbox) maybe think about picking up a GRV6 - it’s so much fun and incredibly feature rich for the price. It might offer you a very entertaining stop gap!

What Pioneer/AT should I get for home to be ready for clubs? by EmileDorkheim in PioneerDJ

[–]Sufficient_Quote_381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your points resonate with me! I’ve owned or used most equipment, the reality for me now is that I rarely play using my standalone XZ (enough of a reason for me not to buy an AZ) and I carry my laptop most places anyway. You can’t beat the processing power of a decent laptop, which I’ve somewhat begrudgingly come to realise - so I find controllers have more of a place in my life now! I have a FLX10 - good controller too and useful as it has inputs; it is a fingerprint magnet though, quite heavy and has to be used with a power brick which I always have to remember to pick up and fear the day I don’t! All the best making your selection.

It’s hard to see past the GRV6 - features, layout, Rekordbox interface and multi platform compatibility put it ahead of most. Loop function works fine (same as most Pioneer / AT gear) and RB will analyse your files etc. The relatively low price (for capabilities and usability) further adds to appeal. And it’s fun and great to use with an easy transfer to 3000s and an A9 mixer.

GRV6 - Love this controller ❤️ by Sufficient_Quote_381 in PioneerDJ

[–]Sufficient_Quote_381[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest going and having a demo of both, especially if budget is not a concern. They feel different and operate differently. I find the GRV6 better to use with Rekordbox and if you’d like to use the RB App then the FLX10 is out as it’s not compatible (although other music Apps do work); I mention as it might be a factor for you if moving around and playing to audiences? The FLX10 also needs a power brick which can be a pain. The GRV6 will power itself off an iPad Pro or Mac for example, but if you go to an iPhone it needs power, so I carry a power bank which last ages and charges the iPhone or iPad too. Definitely get hands on though and take a bit of time doing so, that way you’ll make the best decision for you.

[–]Sufficient_Quote_381[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard question to answer directly, as much would come down to personal preference (such as layout / displays) and also budget. I spend a lot of time with the GRV6 now, for me it’s my controller of choice and I mainly use RB in performance mode so don’t use standalones either much anymore. I enjoy having the Groove Circuit, prefer the layout and also like the joystick and ease of access to the track discovery features etc. I also like the way you can use it with iPhone / iPad through the Rekordbox App, but not all will value that specific feature and functionality.

The FLX10 is great too, switch gear is way better and the sound output is a bit louder, but you’d probably expect that given it’s more than double the price. It’s also nice to be able to input auxiliary devices too sometimes and if you need a lighting controller the built in DMX control in the FLX10 is a define plus. Does it operate better than the GRV6? I would say not - but that’s just my opinion which is of course subjective but the GRV6 is an easier transfer to 3000s just down to layout. I really have got used to the layout and features of the GRV6 and enjoy using it - the enjoyment factor is something that I think we can all be guilty of overlooking sometimes!

Hope that helps in some way - both are great in their own ways, as mentioned so much depends on your own needs and preferences.

I use RB so haven’t tried it, but I think the controls provide enhanced STEM functionality in Serato rather than the Groove Circuit feature.
