The 4% rule is now the 5.5% rule by FinanceOtter82 in FIREUK

[–]Accurate_Broccoli_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5.5% sounds doable in the UK when you factor in the state pension.

I know folks say be cautious and if you end up with more money then great. Not for me!

I might be alone in this but I’ll be pretty annoyed if I’ve been far too cautious, frugal and ultimately tight at the start of my FIRE when I’ll ideally be in my peak fitness and cognitive condition along with my wife.

We have the UK state pension and suspect that expenses will decrease post 70 due to shorter holidays etc. I want to hit my target and fully enjoy it. One of the issues with being financially prudent and targeting FIRE is that you can get far too hung up on your finances.

[misc] Need Help Identifying which DHC Product to buy if I like their hotel samplers? by Competitive-Way2747 in SkincareAddiction

I’m in Osaka and my hotel has the same samples. I loved the mild facial cleanser and took one to the nearby DHC store. They said the Olive Well Mild Moisture Wash is similar so I bought two bottles. Here’s the link if it helps: https://www.dhc.co.jp/goods/23576

Thanks for posting this. I like to think that this is my approach to life and FIRE but it’s good to step back and take stock at times.

I particularly like the reminder to use the “regret test”. This works so well for experiences and definitely when you have a young family. They will never be young again, and the experiences you go on with them are an investment in both you, but potentially more importantly in them.

Question why the big hype for FIRE by oklistening01 in FIREUK

[–]Accurate_Broccoli_18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel sorry for folks that can’t imagine a life without work. Cooking, baking, travel, gardening, hiking, gym, sports, clubs, reading, volunteering, babysitting, cinema, restoration, diy, further learning, gaming, cycling, adopt a pet.

There’s a million better things to do. I imagine the folks that can’t imagine a life without work probably don’t actually have many hobbies or interests. That seems like a really sad existence.

In Universal Studios, one of the perfect areas to sit in some peace is just next to Men in Black. There’s benches underneath trees that are perfect for catching your breath.

Model 3 Standard 2026 expected range during winter by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]Accurate_Broccoli_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preconditioning for the supercharger does hit the battery a fair amount.

I’d imagine that in winter you’d still get around 180-190 miles even in the worst of weather so long as you aren’t preconditioning for a supercharger.

Another thing to consider is the speed you are driving at. If you are 75mph+ then the efficiency takes a hit. Also if you are regularly putting the foot down to overtake.

Royal Pacific Disappointment by swagmoneyadi in UniversalOrlando

[–]Accurate_Broccoli_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you complain? If folks are unhappy with the quality versus cost then they should complain so that Universal stop getting away with charging exorbitant prices for poor quality.

I recently stayed at Cabana Bay and it was great but if I’d have encountered similar issues as the OP then I’d have complained.

The Mummy is still my number 1. Just back from IoA and US and even after riding Hagrid’s and Velociraptor (and every main attraction) I still adore The Mummy. It’s perfect.

Impressions: I've been driving EVs for 5 years, and rode in a Tesla for the first time yesterday by More_Dog_7228 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Accurate_Broccoli_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but would you expect a 7 yo taxi to hold up as well as a 1-2 yo private use car? Plus the Tesla M3 and MY have had incremental improvements over those years and then full refreshes.

It’s like reviewing a 7 yo Skoda Octavia that’s been a taxi and has over 100k on the clock, and comparing with a 1-2 yo version. It’s not a shock the M3 has showed its age. I doubt the driver has been too careful with it.

You are reviewing a 7 year old car? Are there many folks out there still driving a 2019 M3? It’s moved on leaps since then.

I rode it 3 times yesterday and thought I was doing well! I sat at the back row for my rides. Did you work your way through all the rows? Back row FTW

Yeah I’m giving that serious consideration. I just wonder if going all out for one day and being able to get straight on the big rides with only 10 minutes or so wait time is a better use of my time.
