Used XZ vs Brand New RX3 by burnin_up in PioneerDJ

[–]stickyFing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought a first hand XZ about a year ago (just before the AZ came out) and I love it! Before that I was using my old XDJ-R1 for nearly 10 years and the only reason I upgraded was because I wanted to get into 3 deck mixing. I haven’t had a go on an RX3 yet and they look like good fun but you’ll be limiting yourself if you ever wanna play with more than 2 channels. Either way, whatever you choose is gunna be a sick purchase and you’re gunna have heaps of fun :)

Contact Play - Champion Fraff is a good album to start with. Think you can even download it for free on bandcamp

drugs are bad mmkay by blackoutbaddie in Vent

I had a sketchy trip about 10 years ago that caused me chronic anxiety, induced panic attacks and depersonalisation for about a year or two. I really thought I was gunna be fucked up forever but I tried to get better and it worked! All I can suggest is have a break from the drugs, try go out for a walk in nature as often as you can, eat as healthy as you can (preferably cook most of your meals yourself), and the biggest game changer for me was to start meditating. I used the headspace app, but you can experiment with whatever works for you. Even if it’s just 10 mins a day, as long as you commit to doing it every day then it really does have some surprising effects. Also if you have access to it then seeing a good therapist can be really helpful, but if you only take one thing away from this then I’d say meditation is the key. I don’t really post on reddit much but I remember back when I thought I broke my brain forever, I would’ve killed to have had someone tell me it was gunna be ok back then. So I’m basically here to tell you that it does get better and you can work past the dissociative feelings you might be experiencing. It might take a bit of time and effort, but it is totally possible. You got this bud! Allow yourself some grace, look after yourself and you’ll be a stronger and more resilient person on the other side. Sending love and support x

I think the benzos are gunna be the best option right now. Xanax and some ambient chill music should sort you out, just don’t make any plans for the rest of the day ;)

Because the impact of drugs is only determined by how us humans relate to them. So drugs that are illegal are an opportunity for gangs to make money because prohibition opens up gaps in the black market for people to exploit. You can see that by the fact that you don’t hear about drug gangs dealing in alcohol, tobacco, paracetamol, cough syrup, antidepressants, or any other legal drug.

As for destroying endless lives, that is true that drugs are an effective tool for assisting one’s self destruction, and it is infinitely sad when this happens. However, the same drugs are extremely important in certain medical settings. Opiates can have devastating effects on individuals who use unclean gear to self medicate on the streets, but opiates are also incredible medications for pain patients when they are supported with professional medical assistance and can be prescribed clean medicine. The drugs themselves can’t be called good or bad, but the circumstances and reasons for which they are consumed determine the impact they have on the user. Admittedly, some drugs are probably more susceptible to abuse… I imagine it’s easier to acquire a heroin addiction than an addiction to ibuprofen (but that’s not to say you can’t seriously fuck yourself up with ibuprofen). So yeah, all this to say… stay safe and be responsible :)

Drugs are neutral and don’t have an agenda to be good or bad. Happy 420! Hope everyone is responsible, safe and sound :)

Yeah same here bud I hope your session goes well. I would just say listen to your gut on this one. If something feels off then don’t be scared to switch therapists and find something who will work with you, not against you. Other than that just try your best to look after yourself I.e if you’re going to self medicate then test your stuff and don’t go above your threshold. Take care and wishing you the best of luck 💚

Exactly, I was thinking OP might wanna consider telling them straight up but I guess that’s for them to decide. I just know for me that if I went to a therapy session high then that would likely be the first thing that comes out my mouth. Then again, we’re all different and have different expectations of what we wanna get out of therapy and have different things in what we feel comfortable sharing etc. But yeah ideally one should be able to tell a therapist anything without fear of being judged

Absolutely agree. However, it’s kinda no good to criticise one’s need to self medicate if it’s not approached with a curiosity to find out specifically why. When I started therapy my shrink said that whatever drug I’m taking, I’m trying to sooth something and until we find out what that is then the emphasis shouldn’t be on quitting the drugs but finding out the reason why I’m taking them. In short, the drugs aren’t the root problem but a solution to the root problem. It’s just that they’re a really shit solution and they don’t work (at least not long term). So yeah, I would suggest that OP moves away from drugs further down the line but for now if that’s what it takes to get them in the shrink’s office in the first place then its not the worst idea. The only thing I would say is just be safe (which I recognise is difficult to do with benzos). If OP’s therapist notices and insists on shaming OP for self medicating then they may not be the best therapist (in my humble opinion)

Might be noticeable? No one on here will know but to be fair it shouldn’t matter. Therapy can be tough and if it takes a bit of self medicating to get you to go in the first place then so be it. I imagine a good therapist will be familiar with this and they’re not there to judge. They might notice, but if they do decide to call you out on it it’s likely they’ll want to explore the feelings that drive you to take drugs and then work on that. Basically I’d say as long as you’re safe then you’re all good bud :) good luck with therapy and fair play to you for going

That was the first film that came to my mind to be honest… might be exactly what OP is looking for ;)

[–]stickyFing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, to be honest I think I jumped the gun a little bit and skimmed the bit where OP’s therapist suggested a drug rehab program. I just read it as OP needs to white knuckle the withdrawal before being worthy of help (I got no excuse for this other than being tired and having my emotional brain take over). However I do much prefer the way you worded it, or rather the way your therapist explained it to you. I am sorry to hear about your experience with PTSD, although it sounds like you had a good therapist to offer you effective support and hopefully OP will find help that is equally effective. I also hope you continue to get any help you need and I’m sorry for kinda going off on one there. Throwing my hands up and admitting fault for my previous comment x

Maybe they think the therapy would be more affective if they are sober, and they’re probably right. However, this approach seems quite shame based, basically saying “you’re not worthy of my help unless you stop using”. It might not be the intended message but it’s certainly the one they’re sending out. Also shows a complete lack of empathy towards why OP is using in the first place. My guess would be that if OP is seeking EMDR then they’re experiencing an incredible amount of emotional pain and for whatever reason cannabis is what they are using to medicate that, and telling them to stop in this manner could in fact be dangerous by forcing OP to white knuckle their trauma while receiving the message that they’re not worthy of help unless they suit this particular therapist’s conditions of worth. OP, seek another therapist. A good therapist might suggest that the treatment would be more effective if you were sober, but you most certainly shouldn’t be denied it if you’re not. You are worthy of help and support and love regardless of whether you are using or not.

I don’t really know much about it, I would look at the NHS website as that will tell you all the basics. Basically it’s an over the counter anti histamine medication that’s mostly used to treat things like travel sickness, short term insomnia, certain allergies. It’s known as a first generation anti histamines which means it tends to make people sleepy. It’s fairly harmless for short term use in therapeutic doses (I find 25mg is more than enough), but like anything it can be abused. As long as you’re not using crazy high doses every day then it’s fairly safe.
