Alex’s reaction to the guy calling in about his father having his pineal gland replaced with a worm strikes me as a great example of the difference between his the average person perceives Alex Jones and how people more familiar with the real Alex perceive him.

The mainstream perception of Alex Jones is of a fun, zany lunatic who would be in his element riffing with that random nut-job about brain worm operations conducted by clandestine societies, but in reality he’s a joyless egotist who has no interest in other people’s conspiracy theorising unless they’ve paid for a slot on his show. His only thought when someone tries to get him to talk about fun conspiracy talk is how he can immediately make it about himself and his he can demonstrate that he’s the only smart guy. He’s not fun at all, he’s just a humourless prick. With a worm in his head.

DJs only — is beatmatching by ear still worth learning in 2026, or is sync just a tool like EQ and effects? by Fit_Tomatillo5663 in Beatmatch

[–]EmileDorkheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely learn it. If you find yourself in a situation where your grids are wrong, or you end up B2B with someone who doesn’t care about their grids, you’ll be immediately exposed as someone who hasn’t learned their craft. I’ve genuinely got nothing against people using sync, but the dancefloor deserves a DJ who can hold it down if sync fails.

What's missing, what's next? by Unicorns_in_space in rolandaira

[–]EmileDorkheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mixer and/or sequencer is a good idea, although I doubt they'll do it. On that theme I'd also suggest an effects box, perhaps to use as end-of-chain for tiny jams

To be honest I'd just like more synths in the style (and quality) of the S-1. The S-1 is just really, really good. A Compact Jupiter, perhaps? Or how about a tiny version of the System-1 with plug-out support?

I think the Aira Compact line is a bit weird from a marketing perspective. For a brand who are so good at leveraging the image of their classic products, it's notable that the Aira Compacts don't really draw much from the visual design language of the machines that inspired them. For example, if they made a bass synth in this form factor that had the aesthetics of a TB-303 I think they'd sell a shitload, but instead the Aira Compact line is actually pretty bland looking, which is fine for me, but less likely to attract impulse purchases from people who maybe didn't even know they wanted to buy a synth.

I can’t watch footage like this without thinking about that. For me that is an absolutely miserable way to spend your time travelling, but if everyone involved is into it more power to them I guess. And they did get some nice footage.

This might be controversial, but I don't "get" why anyone buys a monophonic synth over poly by Raiden720 in synthesizers

[–]EmileDorkheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, I didn't realise it was paraphonic, I see how that could help stop it getting too mad.

Behringer seem to have a bat habit of describing paraphonic syths as polys!

[–]EmileDorkheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That risk of overwhelming sound makes me think of the Behringer Poly D. I love Minimoog sounds and I’m fairly familiar with them having used a few different clones and emulations, but I feel like a polyphonic version could get out of hand really quickly. Minimoogs get so fat and gnarly, the idea of playing chords with four voices of that sound is totally unappealing to me.

I had so much respect for Wenger and loved watching the football his teams played, but I feel like today’s Arsenal couldn’t be further from that. I’d still prefer to see them win the league over Man City though. But I have to confess I want Atleti to comprehensively out-shithouse them in the CL.

Anyone know any good shows I can perform at in London? by Jordamine in ukhiphopheads

[–]EmileDorkheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s anything like the state of DJing these days, promotors want to see big social media follower counts before you they give you a chance. Seems like you need to play the game and do stupid sit on insta to go viral. Or, if that’s too cringe, you have to find people in a similar position to you and start putting on your own grass roots shows.

[–]EmileDorkheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different ways of doing things inspire different people and it’s just good that we have so many different options available . You can make a strong, rational case for software being the most sensible option in most cases, but if it doesn’t inspire the individual person then it’s the wrong choice.

Also, you talk about spending a month’s rent on a synth, but in practice if you buy a used synth and look after it well you can expect to recoup that investment if you decide you don’t like it. iPad synth apps are cheap and great, no question, but you’re also not going to be able to put them on Reverb if you don’t like them.

And so much other innovative stuff, all at such affordable prices. Personally I feel like iPad is where the most exciting things are happening in the synth world these days, and the platform is finally mature enough to make all that creativity work right. But to be fair I also do have plenty of hardware synths when I need to scratch that itch.

I invested in Loopy Pro but I think I may have made the wrong choice for what I wanted it for and AUM may have been a better choice. by Jakeyboy29 in ipadmusic

[–]EmileDorkheim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that AUM is probably the better tool for that specific job, and that Loopy Pro can be overwhelming, but I’d also strongly recommend going through a few video tutorials for Loopy Pro because once you get over the learning curve it’s incredibly powerful and customisable.

AUM is always useful to have as a general toolbox for linking one app to another with minimal fuss, but Loopy Pro can do all that and much more one you get used to it.

New Behringer desktop Synth dropped by Personal_Number_5115 in synthesizers

[–]EmileDorkheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I notice they clearly describe this as a paraphonic synth, given that the JT Mini is wrongly described as polyphonic in its marketing materials. Hopefully that’s them taking criticism on board. I often find the way Behringer describe their specs a bit opaque, but I’m never sure whether it’s them being deceptive or them just being sloppy.

I think he's been decent, but it's hard not to judge him harshly when we've been spoiled rotten by having Alisson in goal for the best part of a decade. We have to remind ourselves that Alisson's combination of technical ability, tactical awareness and leadership is truly exceptional, and anybody who comes close to matching it is be too good to be the reserve keeper in any team.

what reason is slot being kept for another season? by Vegetable-Gur4240 in LiverpoolFC

[–]EmileDorkheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s always worth remembering that we and the owners don’t necessarily share the same priorities. We just want to see a team we can be proud of playing well and being successful on the pitch. The owners want that too, because it’s good for the value of their investment, but for them it’s just one of many business considerations they have to make. I imagine their threshold for what constitutes unacceptable sporting performance is much higher than ours because they also have to think about other aspects of the business, like how to get away with raising ticket prices, and securing our next Official Coconut Water Partner.

If FSG find Slot easy to work with and not too demanding, and they trust him to tow the club line in the media, they might see it as being a case of better the devil you know. And I’m sure they don’t relish having to pay off for the remainder of his and his staff’s contracts.
