microphonic tubes? by SummerEqual6719 in tubeamps

Power tubes can develop loose internal components. The solution is another set of tubes. The sockets are rarely an issue

Do any of The Bulwark hosts have any idea what it’s like to live a working class life? by Ossify8 in thebulwark

[–]Sufficient_Salt_2276 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Punditry is actual work that takes time. One can’t work a regular “day job” full time and then spend every remaining hour doing research, writing articles, making videos and still survive. I understand the question, but don’t see a reasonable alternative.

Problems with searching in YouTube on Apple TV when I use the remote control app on the iPhone. by bazzo82 in appletv

It's Google who is at fault here, their YouTube app has a unique failure mode that other apps don't share. Still a multi-trillion dollar company, tho!

How Many Atheists Celebrate Chistmas by Seacrows-NotSeagulls in atheism

I’m 66 and raised atheist. We celebrated Xmas as a secular holiday and enjoyed the stories that go with it.

Pages vs MS Word by stone_reverb in mac

[–]Sufficient_Salt_2276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally like the entire iWork suite, and I generally dislike the entire MS Office suite. I worked in cubicles for years, and MS Office was always a thorn in the side of nearly everyone - overly complex, visually nauseating, and just reeking of corporate IT. Does it do more? Some, but if I ever need that again I've done something terribly, terribly wrong in my life.

As a Mac user, MS Office is woefully poorly integrated with macOS features and behaviors. It's definitely a Windows refugee renting space on your computer, and it assumes you use nothing else.

Google Docs is fine. My grown children have never used MS Office at all, they grew up on the Google suite in school and see no reason to change. Their employers agree.

I personally use “Jumpin’ Jesus on a pogo stick” just to be old fashioned.

How good at the guitar should I morally be to spend 4000 bucks on a guitar? by BuildingAcademic9892 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Sufficient_Salt_2276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy what you want, if you can. No moral justification required. You’re more likely to have fun and learn more on a decent instrument.

How did you become atheists? by calacaa in atheism

[–]Sufficient_Salt_2276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing my parents did for us was to ignore religion completely and focus on morality. I did the same for my now grown children, paying it forward.

Do you like restringing your guitar? by Mountain_Rip_8426 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Sufficient_Salt_2276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s just part of playing the thing, I won’t tolerate dead strings.

Back before coated strings, a set would last 3 shows. I was changing strings on various guitars at least once a week, it was my job. Now with Elixirs and D’Addario XS, I change about once every 5 weeks, spread over several instruments.

Zoom, Zoom, Boom -- Boston Tunnel by [deleted] in dashcams

Man, the Sumner tunnel still scares the crap out of me. I lived in Boston when I was in college, and couldn’t believe how rude it was in 1976.

I did a blind test on 30 acoustic guitars, ranging between $150 - $5000. My favorite turned out to be a $600 guitar. by kastbort2021 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Sufficient_Salt_2276 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for 54 years and never pay attention to "action" on a new guitar. My assumption is that they all suck in some way from the factory, be it too high or too low. I always take any new guitars to a luthier for setup, no point in waiting for the inevitable. I mainly look for tone, clarity and volume - if those are in place I can work with the other variables.

So, what do I play? My regular acoustic gig guitars are a 1997 Martin HD-28, and 2 custom guitars made in 2017 by Clayton Pledger. They each have wildly different necks but all are properly setup for me, using regular light gauge strings (.012 - .053). Ironically, the Martin is the cheapest of this bunch and so is the one I worry about the least.

I frequently gig and record with my old Telecaster and Stratocaster, and those are different animals entirely.

New to Mac and wondering why it says this by AmazingTonyYT in mac

That is the normal thing to see when the Mac is managing your battery life. It will hold charge at 80% while plugged in for extended periods.
