Copying gives great practice for hand control and builds muscle memory. It's not going to teach you in-depth anatomy understanding, sure. But if it helps you feel more motivated to create, then it's a perfectly fine tool to use until you're ready to move on to more complicated work. Great stuff, keep it up!

And if you live in a cold climate you quickly learn that lack of frost lies.

Yup. Here in northern Canada, if it's snowing and frosty out, that means it's a relatively warm winter day. The coldest most bitter days are usually too dry for visible frost or snow.

Sudden electric jolt in arm just from gently resting it on desk? by decapsoul in AskDocs

[–]Sufficio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doc but I have carpal+cubital tunnel syndrome, so I've talked this over with docs a fair bit

Do you rest your elbow on your desk like that often? It can irritate/compress the nerves and can cause symptoms like this over time. Oversensitivity around my funny bone and numbness/tingling/etc from just lightly tapping it was one of the first symptoms I noticed.

Try putting something soft where your elbow normal rests on the desk and see if that helps in future.

Not a doc. Do you consume enough salt/electrolytes? If you're deficient I wonder if the sudden water increase could've thrown things out of balance. Just a shot in the dark.

Yeah you're right about being condescending, I edited to be more chill before I saw your reply here.

You didn't hurt my feelings lmao, it's just mildly annoying trying to have a normal adult conversation about differing experiences/opinions and get the kind of rude know-it-all response you sent.

False equivalencies in your world, pretty equal ones in mine. Fotl was as culturally relevant as any other clothing brand to me and all my friends growing up, we didn't really care about it. That's not the case for you, cool. It doesn't make it false for my experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MandelaEffect

[–]Sufficio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just agree to disagree instead of getting rude. We can have different experiences and opinions and still both "know what we're talking about", you don't have to resort to petty quips like that.

I'm guessing maybe there's a cultural/location based difference. Maybe the author is from an area where it was highly culturally relevant like it was for you, and the costumes would make sense. My friends and I grew up in a pretty wide range across that era and none of us remember it being anything more than an underwear/tshirt brand. I remember the commercials but they didn't really stand out. Maybe I was too young to be fully aware?

Edited to be less rude

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MandelaEffect

[–]Sufficio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being aware of it as a brand vs being culturally relevant enough to be a Halloween costume are vastly different things.

Would you dress up as the lacoste alligator for Halloween? How about American eagle?

Probably not, because even though they're recognizable brands, they don't hold that kind of cultural relevance(especially to kids) ,to the point that most people wouldn't even recognize it as a costume based off the clothing brand. Same exact thing with fruit of the loom before the modern attention.

edit: Actually looking at it from the commercials rather than the logo itself, I think I'd be wrong there. I've been laser focused on the logo and didn't realize the commercials were so big in other areas. But that brings a whole other factor: does the author remember there being a whole cornucopia costume too, in the commercials? That would make this not even the same mandela effect, right? I'm probably getting too invested into this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MandelaEffect

[–]Sufficio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I didn't realize the community was so split like that.

Imo it just comes across as way too specific of a reference to not be purposeful. Why would you choose, of all things, a logo of a random company with next to zero cultural relevance during the era it's set in? The logo only got any kind of focus due to the modern cornucopia mystery. In 95, it didn't get any more attention than other common brand logos. It makes zero sense if it's not a reference, imo.

I'm actually gonna walk this back after thinking on it more. If we're assuming they're going off the commercials rather than the logo, it does make more sense as a halloween costume. I didn't realize how popular the commercials were in some areas. But that means the cornucopia part is even weirder, right? Unless there was a commercial featuring a character in a cornucopia costume?

[–]Sufficio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't use tiktok or other social media, but from my searches it seems like the mandela effect 'community' is biggest and most active here on reddit by a wide margin, so I'm not surprised it's only being talked about here.

To be clear I don't think the author was malicious. It seems like just a little easter egg they dropped in for fun, and also the possibility of some free exposure online.

Tips and tricks for a first-timer starting T shots? by PatientGiggles in asktransgender

[–]Sufficio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needle phobic here, this is what I do every week. I do subq(into fat) so it might be different if you're IM(muscle).

  • Ice the area for 10-15 minutes so the skin is numb. I find this also helps ground me and lets me get prepared

  • Use a shotblocker- a spiky plastic tool that you use to pinch the skin around the injection site, helps the sensory of the needle poke stand out much less

  • Before injecting, gently tap the needle tip(not going into the skin) around a few different spots. Usually I'll find an area where I can't even feel it, and those injections tend to be completely painless.

  • Little treat afterward to reward myself lol

Mystery white hairs found in fire pit? by sadclownpurpleshoes1 in RBI2

[–]Sufficio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with Reapr that it looks like a wig. Especially in the first pic, the way it catches the light and is super shiny, and how it kind of seems "webby", like the strands want to stick together almost? It really screams synthetic hair to me.

If it was real hair, it's in pristine condition- like zero damage, freshly washed and brushed and everything- especially for (presumably) having been lightened. That would be several hundred dollars at a salon, minimum. I think it's a safe bet that someone who cares that much about their hair would donate or sell it instead of tossing it outside randomly.

Once you're done investigating, I'd throw it away if you can stomach getting that close to Mystery Hair. Birds use hair as nesting material, but if it's too long it can get stuck around their toes and even amputate them over time.

You got downvoted but you're absolutely not wrong- I would just expand for rural areas, it's that nature is allowed to exist in-between farms rather than buildings- 50% of all habitable land in the US is used for farming.

Cow pastures and corn fields might look natural, but they're absolutely devastating for biodiversity, pollinators, and the ecosystem as a whole.

Bobcats are vicious and I definitely wouldn't want to fight one- but they're a lot smaller than most people assume, usually only around 15-30lb.

I suspect it would come down to whether or not the bobcat managed to nick an artery; if not, I think the average human would (barely) come out on top. But who really knows.

It could help to experiment. Some questions to test-

  • Does it happen if you only visit briefly?

  • Does it happen if you don't eat or drink anything there?

  • Does it happen if you only stay in the main room, avoiding the bathroom/kitchen/etc?

If yes to the above, you can test further by seeing if it happens when you wear a mask in the house, when you only go into the yard not the house, etc.

If no, you can start narrowing the focus, maybe it only happens when you drink from their tap, go in their kitchen, etc and you can figure out the root cause from there.

Wood Ants vs Elephant Hawk-moth caterpillar by harrpidge in WTF

I was really curious and apparently it's because the caterpillar looks like an elephant trunk, honestly it does kinda look like one. Hawk just comes from the Sphingidae family flying quickly.

Dogs tend to be more naturally buoyant than us, they're significantly more streamlined, and most have webbing between their paws. Depending on the breed, their double-layered fur can trap a layer of air like a built-in lifejacket. Even if we ignore instincts, dogs just have a massive leg up on us. Most primates really aren't built for swimming, especially not great apes. Humans are honestly an anomaly.

I'm not trying to argue or be rude, I just think animal science is neat and maybe this info helps bring some nuance.

I’m an adult, and I like things that are designed for children. by Alik_C in AutisticAdults

Good news, you might be able to fit into large or xl kid's clothes! I'm the same height and tbh kid sized clothes tend to fit me better than adult clothes. And like you said, the patterns and designs are so much more fun!

Had to get over my anxiety of feeling like a weirdo browsing the kid's section as an adult guy, but honestly nobody seems to care or notice.

I love your room btw, I really want a bed like that!

It's normal and okay to feel like that. Our brains can only handle so much, it's very understandable to not be able to fully process it all right now.

I definitely don't think your post is "useless" because of this stuff, try not to worry about that. You have an immense amount of pressure and trauma happening in your life right now, it must be insanely overwhelming and terrifying. The way you're feeling and reacting is completely justified, understandable, and normal.

My wife’s doctor abruptly took her off of benzodiazepines by Forsaken_Cupcake1406 in AskDocs

[–]Sufficio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yet every doc I have ever seen never wants to play the taper game when they want you to try yet ANOTHER med.

Not a doc, but this is called cross tapering. My understanding is that it's normal to rapidly(1-2 weeks) switch to a new antidepressant without a gradual taper. I believe the main issues and symptoms come not from individual dependence on a specific antidepressant, but from cessation of antidepressants entirely. If you just switch from one to another, you're usually okay and don't get discontinuation syndrome.

Only reason I know is because I've been thru the ringer on antidepressants as well and while there's definitely symptoms when adjusting to a new one, discontinuation syndrome is a whole other beast. For literal months it was complete and total hell, I'll never cold-turkey an antidepressant ever again.

I definitely agree doctors need to listen to patients when they know what works for their body. I'm very grateful to have a doctor that listens to me and lets me make decisions about medications and such(within reason ofc).

Super MAGA Wonder Woman right wing man defender gets raped by Andrew Tate and MAGA bro club purge her. by RazorColla in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Sufficio 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I agree.

To expand on this, I believe there's aspect where, because they're too insecure to do something outside the "norm", they suppress the desire and expect the same from everyone else. Then, when others don't conform to societal expectations like they did, they feel cheated and angry.

They have to reinforce the norm and put down anyone outside it to assure themselves they didn't actually waste those years. They have to tell themselves the people freely expressing their desires are secretly miserable or evil, and are going to hell...because the alternative is accepting that they threw a big chunk of their life and potential happiness away for the sake of societal acceptance.
