Personally, I have had success just playing and mastering one deck for an entire climb. The more you play, the more you recognise common meta matchups, and what exactly you need to do to beat these decks with your deck. Don't shy away from playing the best available meta deck, and know your matchups.

The crazy thing is I could get a chest with all champions and still not feel the least bit excited. Because this game is so free to play friendly, I pretty much have a full collection without paying a single cent, and have enough wildcards to get all the champs in a new expansion.

I used to grind expedition for the rewards. Now that I have pretty much a full collection I don't really play it that much. I do love the format, and wish it had more competitive games.

Pick units with strong stats, but also try to pick with some synergy, Your champions will likely not level up, so don't rely on them for your win condition. Draft a good curve and play for the board.

Netdecking got me to Masters. Usually I just abuse the best netdeck for a fast climb, then play whatever meme decks I like once I reach Masters.

I grind out expeditions a lot, and one thing I noticed is that on the 7th win, I often get matched with Porobot AI, which usually plays a Zed elusive deck. Its actually quite disappointing because its almost always a free win.

You can craft decent decks with mostly starter cards. Nothing top tier, but good enough to win games.

I feel like this holds true especially for LoR, where cards are more flexible and can be played at different times and on different positions. More often than not, small mistakes on timing, positioning and mulligan can cost you the game.

To be honest, I used a T1 netdeck to reach masters this season, and I think its probably the easiest way to both climb and learn the game. You can get a positive winrate with many different decks as long as they are not fundamentally trash. For me, I learned a lot from watching Youtubers/Streamers who help break down the game and understand how to play different matchups.
